It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it :) the teacher is just teaching you the moves, it all comes down to how you interpret it and what u can do with ur body, that’s how I see it.

@@jeonkookie4010 Hi! Your mom sounds like my mom - stubborn. 😂 I'll be honest with you: if you want to be a professional ballet dancer, then starting young is better. The older you get, the less chance you have to be pro. It's not impossible - just not recommended. That said, *it's never too late to learn*. Seriously. My only advice is start stretching now. Ballet related stretches. It really, really helps. Hope you go for it!

What I’ve noticed with dancing in general is that beginners tend to stick to the choreo as it was taught, where as advanced dancers use the choreo kind of like a base and then add their own style and flavor to it. And it makes sense bc you grow that individual style the longer you dance. Like when I learn combos from a video, I tend to not watch the really well known, pro dancers bc I can’t exactly tel what the moves are verbatim

  • @themeowadventure

true! :D that's how I started as well; I tried to follow the moves as close as possible.. the struggles of the beginning is working on your body awareness, coordination, musicality, direction, groove... so much! when I became more confident, i added my own choices in movements, without taking away the essence of the routine too much. I smile and enjoyed myself both ways though! haha!

I feel like the same thing happens when you sing too. Like as a beginner, you just tend to learn the song as it is. But as you get more advanced, you tend to add your won style to it.

Not necessarily. Being a dancer means many times giving up your own style, like when you're gonna make a crew video or when you're performing or competing. Besides, a lot of teachers don't appreciate you changing the original steps or adding you own personal style, as it is seen as disrespectful, which I agree with.

The main difference I saw is that the beginner’s dance is very static. You can see him move from point A to point B. You can see him thinking the next step. While the advanced dancer’s piece just flows freely. But both are still great!

That's because the movements already feel natural to the advanced dancer ..so they don't need to try to remember it for it to flow. As a beginner you always keep thinking to make sure you remember which move comes after the next but that gets better as you keep practicing because it feels more natural.

Something I learned from dancing is to USE EXPRESSION. You might be dancing good, but if your expressions are boring, the audience will also be bored. The audience doesn’t know if you did it wrong, that’s why it’s good just to be confident and have good expressions even if you mess up, people won’t even know you messed up if you don’t show it. If you have confidence and good expressions, the audience will love it.

i’m really into kpop and kpop dances and all i was thinking about was how all the advice they gave is essentially the opposite of what kpop idols do. you’re not supposed to change up the choreo and you’re not really supposed to add your own flavor unless you’re the only one doing a certain move. i think any time when you have groups of dancers following the exact choreo is more important so you can be in sync and look the same. solo dances are the other hand are all about personality. but of course making a dance your own is what makes it fun so as a dancer myself i’ll gladly take that advice

I learned mic drop from bts and I watched the dance practice probably more than a hundred times. Jeongguk , j hope, jimin and v do have their own style each. Even if you look at hope and jimin you see differences as day and night, but they all look amazing and they are still in sync and the piece works out and looks like they are moving thr same (as the moves themselves are the same). So what I'm trying to say is, that you can make a group look in sync even with each member expressing their oen style.

Please do more of these kinds of videos!! I learn so much from watching the difference between beginner and advanced and also the difference between the advanced and the original choreo. You get to see how an advanced dancer changes up the choreo and what things he does differently from the original and how you could change the choreo up yourself.

Actually, if you are a cover dancer like most kpop dancers, like myself, you have to learn even the smallest details. It's really learning other people's vibes not finding your own which is kinda annoying. But as time passes and you have practised everything a hundred times it gets really cool and you become a good dancer. So NEVER stop dreaming about becoming the dancer you want. I had elbow dislocation before 2 months and here I am now ready to dance again so fight for what you want no matter the circumstances.

The advanced dancer really knows how to travel and use his space! I heard that from another Steezy video about how to become a better dancer, is to not remain in a square but to use the space around you.

As an advanced singer (I have a degree in it and use my voice professionally, I'm not just blowing own trumpet) who is a complete beginner to dance, seeing this process was so familiar yet so new and exciting for me. It also helps me to think that dance is something that is actually attainable for me as the practice skills are the same. Also, if I cannot stay in time after doing music for this long then was my music degree even worth it.

It's interesting as a VERY BEGINNING dancer. I like to see what people do. I'm so solidly stuck in miming exactly what I see like it's ballet. When in reality I do a lot of hip-hop which has much freer movement choices than ballet would.

I think a key point of growing as a dancer is when you realize that you don't need to be able exactly copy the choreo, but get the basics and then add your own style. For me that realization came after watching this video. Thank you 🙏
