    Thanks for your videos! If you were to setup a closed terrarium that should live endlessly without interfering what soil would you use?

    I've heard the bottom part of the moss that you cut off can be used in place of sphagnum moss in the the substrate mix. Is this true? If not, is there another good use for that bottom part, or does it just get thrown away?

    Can you skip the orchid bark for the soil mix? Or is there an alternative choice? Because I can't find it in my town.

    Love your videos, quick Q though, as a beginner the substrate mix looks like it could be quite expensive "to just have a go", is there a ready mix that you'd recommend?

    Love the video! Question. I can't source Orchid bark locally, and I don't want to order online if I can help it (not patient when it comes to mail lol) is there anything else I could substitute it that would do the same as the orchid bark?

  • @TerrariumDesigns

    Thanks! Any bark chips tend to be a good substitute, fir tree bark chips are a common alternative. You can even find some bark, chop it up & use that😃

    I made a terrarium based off of one of your previous videos but I have a question. Inside the rocks and sticks are both visibly wet/saturated, is this a sign that there’s too much moisture in it or it that okay?

    My cushion moss turned brown and died. Any tips? Is it possible for a light to be too strong? The moss was in a gecko enclosure

  • @TerrariumDesigns

    @TerrariumDesigns

    Yes lighting an be too strong especially for moss. If moss is reviving too much light it will begin to aped pale & discoloured. However another reason for yellow moss is overwatering

    Good question! As you say in the video springtails are a great choice to start of with. If your terrarium is big enough you can begin to add things like isopods, millipedes & other small bugs & critters:)

    I have some experience keeping cherry shrimp so a ecosystem built for them would be fun! Haven’t kept vampire crabs before but maybe that will be a project for the future😃
