    It's nice when someone explains the things that others never mention. I never knew that Stainless steel sparks for instance. Really good useful information. Thanks

    Thanks for helping train the next generation of scraper! They might never scrap something, but they might be able to negotiate a reduction in a bill if you're letting 'them' dispose of the valuable waste.

    handy video for beginners.The hammer makes light work of a lot of things, i was still looking at that hacksaw thinking a blow to the other part would likely see the rest of the die cast fall off but you need to be safe about it (not just the shoulder but a chunk of metal flying into your eye is also going to ruin your day/life also).

  • @TheUltimateRecycler

    Yep true Dean! It was quite brittle so the rest may have broken off easily, but I'm not going to chase every morsel! The hammer is a very handy tool tho! 😁👍

    My scrap yard takes the nickel heating wire, it’s about the same price as Aluminum (a bit more) so not great, but easy enough to stash in a jar. Love the unboxings!

  • @TheUltimateRecycler

    I don't think I'll bother with it for aluminium prices - it would take a lot of heating elements to make any money! Thanks Shane 😊

    I was watching a car channel today, and the guy was cleaning electrical connectors (copper/brass) in a solution of Vinegar with SALT(salt speeds up the process he said) and wondered if it would be worth the bother in some cases to chuck all the copper scrap in a tub of vinegar for a swish/soak to upbrade to Milbury etc? (he then rinsed it in baking soda to nuetralise the acid and rinsed that of with clean water) could be interesting if a reasonable quantity.

    I've heard a few scrappers talk about upgrading No. 2 copper to No. 1 by various means Dean and I guess it all comes down to the time you have on your hands. From a purely economic point of view, let's look at the difference between the prices. At the moment, it's only 50c/kg difference at my yard - so you would be only making an extra 50c per kg of copper cleaned without any consideration to cost of materials (vinegar & baking soda). Not even close to worth it from my perspective.

    Some great tips for beginners (of which i am one). What happens when you arrive at the scrap metal place with your separate buckets? Do they take your word for the content, do they spread it out like you've done and check every piece? Or something in the middle...

  • @TheUltimateRecycler

    @TheUltimateRecycler

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question Matt. They pretty much take your word for it and have a quick scan in the bin where you've emptied the buckets. I'm sure they check the stuff later as they combine it - and I think if you were being really dodgy with your sorting they would make a note against your account and maybe dock your pay on a future load?? So if you are a regular client, it pays to build a good reputation. If you are a once only seller - you could probably get away with quite a bit of impurity. But that earns you bad karma in my opinion! Any other scrappers like to share what their yard does?...
