Beginner Guide to Road Tool in UE5 Co-Pilot DASH

Фильм және анимация

This quick Unreal Engine beginner tutorial covers how one can easily create a procedural road mesh with Dash.
The result is a fully customizable road that adjusts to the terrain or the surface it is created upon.
This video is part of a series of mini-tutorials on various Polygonflow Dash features. The rest is available here: • Dash Tools Tutorials

Hi, these videos have been amazing and I'm almost ready to purchase and start my journey with Dash! Just a quick question though. Can Dash be used to make a dirt path? For example, a slightly sunken in path that cuts through a medieval village? Roads always seem to raise the terrain level slightly, so I'm unsure if the "road" tool is what I'd be looking for.

Dash should have modeling tools coming up in the near future that'll allow you to create divots in the terrain for pathways, but UE5 currently has some decent tools for that sort of thing. You can use Dash to detail the modeling you've done in UE blindingly fast!

Can the road be ”straightened” on the terrain so that it does not lean 45 degress in some areas? Would be a great function. I mean across the road and not along it. :)

You can lift the road off the terrain using the Road Tool, for sure. Though you'd probably be better off just making a section of road specifically from that curve so it acts more like a bridge rather than a contour following road.

    1. Will it work with height map imported from world creator or gaea? 2. Can river be created with the road tool by changing the material in the final stages from road to water?

Edited answer: 1. Yes you can create a road or scatter anything from Dash on terrains created in Gaea or World Creator. 2. Making a river-like mesh is easy - just add the material you'd prefer to it! If you like you can even use the Water material that ships with Dash. Just create a water plane with the Action "Water", select that plane, and find the water material from the plane's details panel in UE. From there, drag & drop the water materials on top of the road :)

You can scatter whatever you like on top of the road mesh with Surface Scatter or Path Scatter etc. Combining the road tool with Path Scatter can for example give you a road with a fences on the sides. If you have any specific examples/references you are thinking about, just let me know :)
