You can do this. It won’t look like mine regardless of skill etc. But the doing of it is what can bring the joy rush :)
I've been so frustrated by my attempts at glazing, with the first layer always being disrupted. This is the first watercolour tutorial I've seen where this was explained and emphasized. Thanks!
Thanks for this wonderful teaching
Beautiful tulip(s) paintings. This was a great demo... Thanks for showing & describing the techniques. I get it now!

Thanks Kristy! This was sooo helpful! I like the realistic tutorials, too
I just went to a local public garden to and took some photos of the most beautiful intense orange color tulips I think I’ve ever seen. I’ll have to try these glazing techniques with them. Thanks 😊

I LOVE this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So gorgeous! Thank you Kristy!!
So gorgeous. I’m a tighter rather than a loose painter, so this is hugely helpful👏🏻
When I saw the Anna Mason photos pop up, I thought I was on the wrong video, but no! My first class was an Anna Mason and it was a huge fail for me. She's brilliant, but not a good beginner class! Thanks for breaking down the glazing types so well!

Thank you soooooo much Kristy. I have been frustrated so much about glazing, shading, & detail beginning a totally beginner. When drying for 24 hrs.(didn't dry long enough). I would use the blow dryer or a few hours. You are so helpful. I would like more tutorials on glazing, shading, and details. I just don't get it. My paintings look flat and dull. Much appreciated your information. Thank you.

You got it!!
You make drawing a tulip so easy. I am a beginner to watercolor.
This is great and something that impatient me needs to work on. 😮. But I’m also thinking 🤔 if for whatever reason, you just needed to get that crisp & clean line, or shadow and didn’t want to wait, you could use a watercolor pencil or other water-soluble medium….like a Neocolor 2 crayon, and get at least some of what you might get with proper curing and glazing. I don’t think it would necessarily give you the same effect of pure watercolor, but maybe it would be what you want and need at the time?
@KristyRice

I think they would work beautifully!
Hi Kristy! Thanks for this tutorial! Best explanation of glazing technique I have seen. I can’t wait to try this technique. May I ask what fluorescent yellow you used in this video?
@KristyRice
2 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it!! The yellow so from my new palette coming soon!
Erm, brain gets it but not fully processed..... yet. I'll be re-watching this video again (and taking "paint notes" lol).
I have learned (not mastered - great difference) that for glazing, e.g. a shadow cast on a large building, you do it with one stroke. not going back and forth. I guess, 'half' a stroke in addition, to pick up, where there is an edge, is still ok. but not going back and forth too often and not pressing too much. then, when it is blow dried thoroughly, it should work as well. but I must say, when working in many layers, it does help, when at least the darker values at the top, are not to easy to lift - I find - as a lay person so to speak
Love all the tips and tricks with this one..

Nice! I can’t believe it! I’ve been waiting for your brushes- checking amazon everyday. They finally were available this week, I put them in my cart, but had an appointment. When I came back, they were gone! Will they get more again soon?

Did you read my mind today? I have been curious about glazing. I’m working on underwater mermaids and I want to glaze the finished painting but I’ve been scared. And..I truly love my brushes, I can’t compliment them enough and I don’t paint flowers much. So everyone should know they paint all kinds of pictures.

Do you let each layer dry for 24 hours or just the first one?
@KristyRice
2 ай бұрын
I try to let each but honestly I’m often too impatient to go a full 24!!
I do not understand the last glazing technique on the 3rd red flower at the beginning. Please try explaining where the glazing is? Is it with the change of colour?
When will your watercolor brushes be back in stock on Amazon? I had them in my cart last week, and forgot about them. After watching this video, it reminded me to get them and POOF! No longer there :(

Kristy, I have a problem with bloom...the watercolor mistake that looks like cauliflower lobes. I don't know what I do wrong. So discouraging. I think it's when I go back over something I've already painted?
@AnaPie896
2 жыл бұрын
Kathy I think that happens when you have pools of water that dry on the page. It’s something I’m working on too, water control is so hard!
@KristyRice
2 жыл бұрын
Could be too much water…if you have a puddle and it dries the settling pigment particles can cause the cauliflower :)
Just as beautiful as the real one! But it has Kristie's fingerprints put in there with the veins. One thing I have a hard time with is where to shade and where to highlight and then you detail, right? 🥴Sometimes I am so confused, help!!😊👍💐👋
@KristyRice
2 жыл бұрын
Well here is a basic approach, share where two petals meet. Highlight is any high point that is closer to the light, so the tip of a petal’s convex curve :) Detail is really where you draw attention to areas you love the most!
Kristy, I want to buy a set of your brushes, I went on Amazon etc but can’t find them anywhere. Can you help.? .
@KristyRice
2 жыл бұрын
Try searching travel watercolor brushes, they should be on the first page.
Is there a reason you are waiting so long for your painting to dry rather than using the blow dryer to dry it completely before you continue to work?
I am so sorry, which class should I start with?? I have some super basic 101 watercolors and watercolor pencils. Until I learn more, I did not want to spend a lot of money on the wrong brands. I find myself saving every save Kristi watercolor, but Before I dive in with 100% of my adHd attention, I really need some sort of starting point. I remember watching a video with a hand made chart and thinking there is probably somewhere different to start. sorry it’s not about glazing. But I promise to have ??s when I get to this!

Sooooo the link in the description doesn’t take me to your brushes. It takes me to a page that has a button that says “buy on Amazon” but clicking said button just opens a generic search for watercolor brushes on Amazon in which your brushes are nowhere to be found. I thought you should know

Can you paint a beach scene instead of always flowers. I am not a flower painting person.
But adding dry paint over top will give you the dreaded HARD EDGES won’t it? And then you try to smooth them with a damp brush and then it’s OVERWORKED!!! Argh!!
@KristyRice
2 жыл бұрын
Dry paint overtop? Can you clarify?
I think for me is I watch videos and think i have to follow along and end up with a crappy looking painting because I don’t let it dry….then I get discouraged very quickly

Definitely too fast for this beginner
