This is a practical and useful beat for beginners, and it's not an 8th note groove. We are grooving in 16th notes using both hands on the hi hat and snare! This groove helps beginner drummers develop their weaker hand while also teaching them how to groove in 16th notes. This is a practical beat that is musical and fun for beginner drummers to learn. When I first started playing drums this is one of the first beats I learned on the kit!

I taught myself how to play drums.. jumped right into a bunch of double bass and fills. Neglected my hi-hat for a long time. I am correcting that issue and I want to say thank you for these lessons. One day...ill be cool
This is the best 16th notes lesson so far. New Subscriber here ❤
I’m 45 and I’ve been drumming for almost two weeks now. Took me four days but I finally got this dialed in. Just wanted to play something cool. Now back to my rudiments.
I FINALLY figured out how to do this! I can't thank you enough dude this video was sooooo helpful. This is a blast to play and I feel like I can start getting into other grooves branching off of it

Its my 2nd day learning this and my struggle is when right hand is on high hat and 2 strokes on snare i.e 3ena part, my sticks get in each other way. Then i saw this again and how eric does is he moves his right hand to provide more free space for left hand on snare. Thanks a lot eric, keep up the good work👏👏
Man,you make playing fun and easier for beginners so keep it up and the world needs more drummers, thanks and you are teaching me alot
Great teacher and lesson. Thank you.

It took a minute but I finally got it. This was great, thank you.
Great lesson! I so far only managed to get a bar or two straight before losing my rhythm, but I'll be practicing more!
First! Love your vids bro, keep it up!
Sir super
I like drums. :D
Thanks for telling me to stop and practice the foundations of this beat. I paused and have returned after week of negotiation with the metronome. It won, stubborn things they are, but I’m much better off for it.

Thank's a lot man! I can play it ( slow ).
Original hip hop beat from 80s
For the second groove example, why not play the snare hits with alternating strokes instead of playing it on the left hand? If that makes sense.
That biggie reference was hilarious.

What is the song in your intro?
It was great to take the lesson. Could you pls send the list of songs to play with this beat??? Thx

"Thanks for sticking with me." I see what you did there.
Is this what the high hat is doing when Cliff Davis plays Stranglehold, with Ted Nugent in 1975? Looking for classic hard rock songs that use this. If this is done with one hand, is it any different?
Is that a Gretsch Renown kit?

Yes it is!
wait so you DON'T play the hi hat on the 2 and 4? just the snare?

That’s right! Each note with your hands is by itself (linear).
