Beginner Crochet - Triangle Tote

This is a review of what was covered in my Beginner Crochet Class - Level 3 where we created a Triangle Tote.
In this video, you will review and become confident with:
- how to create a slipknot
- how to create a foundation chain
- how to complete the single crochet (sc) stitch
- how to crochet into a chain space (ch sp) instead of the top of a stitch
- how to finish off (fo) your work and weave in your ends/tails
You will learn:
- how to seamlessly change colours
- how to seamlessly sew two pieces together
You will need:
- 2 colours of 3 or 4 weight yarn (any material, but I will be working with 100% acrylic for this tutorial)
- a crochet hook (5mm or 5.5mm)
- a darning needle (or large needle for yarn)
- a pair of scissors
- 2 stitch markers (bobby pins, paper clips or a different coloured piece of yarn about 3" long will substitute if you don't have stitch markers)
Time Stamps:
00:00:00 - Introduction & Materials
01:15 - Pattern Overview
03:16 - Tips & Tricks
06:36 - Pattern Start

Do you happen to have the measurements for the bag? I am using lion brand cotton 24/7 and even though its a weight 4 yarn it seems way thinner.

Hey, I'm sorry I missed this comment for some reason! The bag, as I have worked it in this tutorial, is roughly 13-14" in width and height. The middle depth is slight shorter where the V shape goes down, and the strap is as long or as short as you decide to make it. If you are having problems with your sizing, you can try going up or down a hook size to accommodate. I find that Lion Brand Cotton 24/7 yarn seems to be, what some people call a "skinny 4". Some yarn can be labelled as a certain weight, but through different manufacturing, turns out slightly different. I experience this regularly with my pieces as well, but it really just takes some time to get to know which yarn brands and lines you like to work with. I know that isn't super helpful, but it might feel good to know that you're not crazy; you're very right, that yarn does tend to work up a little thinner than other 4 weights.

Hey Rosi, you can completely customize this patter by simply starting with an odd number in your foundation chain. If you are looking for a certain size, I suggest chaining until you reach that dimension and then counting to make sure you have an odd number; if you end on an even number, just add or take away 1 chain and then you would be ready to start your pattern. The only other thing that this would change is the amount of rows each section will need. each section needs to be square, so if you are making a smaller amount of chains, you wouldn't need as many rows, and if you are adding extra chains at the beginning to make it larger, then you might need to add a few rows to make sure each section is square. You'll see what I mean as you start to work through your piece. I hope this helps!

Hey, you're welcome! Thanks for watching. No, they chain does not count as row 1. Row 1 begins as you turn back to work into the foundation chain.

Yes! A perfect square, so however many rows gets you there is fine! It all will depend on your tension and that is different for everyone.

Absolutely, but try your best to have an even amount of rows so that you don't have to attach another piece of yarn for seaming. Having an even amount will leave you with your finishing tail on the right end of your piece.

Hey! I'm so sorry I missed this comment. I'd you've ended up with your tails both on the same side, do might have just crocheted an extra row, or one less than you were supposed to. You should end up with an even amount of rows, which would leave you with you tail on the opposite side. If that is the case, you can just weave in that tail and attach a new piece of yarn to thw corner that it should be on for seaming it up.
