BEGINNER Crochet Market Bag Tutorial
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Introducing the Crochet Market Bag. This pattern plus the Beach Bag Pattern is actually the same pattern. There is a difference in the pattern and that is the yarn that is being recommended.
Lily Sugar’n Cream and Bernat Handicrafter is both made by Yarnspirations. Lily is mostly available in the USA where Handicrafter is available in Canada. Today’s pattern, the yarn recommended in the pattern is for Bernat Handicrafter.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm working on my first bag myself. Without your videos I never would have gotten past single crochet!! Been a fan for 11 years since I found you on KZread
Such a comforting soothing voice, and a fantastic tutorial! Would love to see more bag tutorials from you!

Love this bag. Made it for a friend's daughter to use as a beach bag. Thank you for this tutorial.
By far this is the most easiest & nicest market bag that I've crocheted! Love it, great job!
Your tutorials are my favorite. You explain things so well.
this is my favorite Sugar and Cream color :) THANK YOU
Thank you, I really enjoyed making this bag, especially the neat way the base was designed. I used a finer yarn Rico cotton essentials and a 3.5mm hook so added 20 stitches to the base so the bag used 115g. This first one is a gift for a friend, going to make another for me as I can tell I'll get a lot of use out of it.
Lovely bag! Thanks for the tutorial, Mikey. And I especially love the term "library of your mind". Yes! Let's fill them with easy great patterns! ♥
I love it, Mikey! Thanks for such a great tutorial on how to make one of these totes. I will be making several. A lot of uses for these totes in my future, including storing my yarn. Thank you!
Thanks for your time and teaching experience in this field, A great project and I am very great full for the way you teach. Excellent suggestions and patience with your time. Thanks again.
Thanks for the tutorial. I just finished mine.
Amazing thanks so much for this wonderful video I have made several for myself and friends and they love them.
I made this from leftover yarn and it turned out great. thanks!
Thank you for sharing this pattern. So easy to make. As the ban of plastic bags here in Australia,, i can make a heap of these to use for myself and family..thank you
I have almost completed this and LOVE this project. I also enjoy Mikey's ongoing struggles with pronouncing "mesh section"! 😄
I love this bag. i made it with him. he is a very good teacher. knowledgeable and easy to understand. i look forward to making more. thanks so much. i will be watching your videos from now on.
I'm just finding this! I made one bag yesterday and I love it so much I went to AC Moore's sale and got Sugar n Cream 10 for $10. So today I started another one and I love the color so much. It's Swimming Pool Piscine. I might have to go back for more!!!! Thank you Mikey!
You are the best at explaining! You rock at crocheting! Best regards from Belgrade, Serbia :)
It's a versatile bag. I love it. Your awesom
Very lovely will be making this soon like how your instructions are clear and this bag is going to be very useful thank you for sharing
Thank you very much! It's invisible!
I absoutly love your pattern!! Great job!
Great tutorial, was very easy to follow. This was my first bag, but will not be my last.

This is my first bag too, but like you not my last..
thanks, I will have to try this pattern.
Thank you for this video it's wonderful. I had the pattern but needed to see project in motion. You do a great job. I have finished my bag. I crocheted the bottom a little different. I crocheted 2" of single crochet then I started my message loops but I crocheted into the 5th stitch and it made a web design. Like columns of loops. The fact is I read direction without knowing bottom of bag needed 12 inches of single crochet. I wish I can show picture because it came out very nice. I like to take patterns and make the design different to my own.
THANK YOU, Mikey, I'm working on this bag now, I also made the other crochet market bait bag, I am going to see which one my friends like. I like both, so we'll see. Thank you. :-)
Great bag! Can’t wait to make some as gifts & for myself, much better (stronger & prettier too) than all those dreadful plastic bags! 💚🌎
outstanding tutorial thank you going to do it right now
love it!
I made one and I love it

Thank you mike, for the tutorial it really help. Diane
I made one of these market bags after finding the pattern on the sleeve of my Bernat yarn. Not a big fan of this bag. Strap would work better for me if it was attached on the short sides and wasn’t so long. Even the mesh part ends up being too long. IT STRETCHES A LOT! Next time I’ll crochet less rounds of the mesh and alter the strap to my liking.

I did the same thing! I knew it would be too long so instead of 18". I did 13". PERFECT!

I know it’s good for vegetables or the beach or even laundry, but I was thinking of the stitches stretching also. I made a different bag and added a lining so it wouldn’t stretch out. Still 100% washable and at least for me, more functional
nice thanks!
Wonderful teacher, Mikey!!! How can I make a blanket out of the mesh stitch?
so cute and easy 😂😃
or make a crochet 'diagram' pattern that we can print off? Love your tutorials! Thanks!
I love the bag design and the color you used Mikey. My question is, since the yarn is 100% cotton, how much shrinkage is there going to be in the overall size of the bag?
Can show instead of one handle ,two handles. I love your video. Thank you
I used a slip in marker on the double crochet at end of round. Never missed it.
@dianeoconner7246

Joey Prieur I did that too.
Are you able to zoom the camera in, so we can see exactly where you are putting a) the slip stitch in the base/foundation before sc in the next round and b) where to put the stitch when finishing a round of mesh? Super Zoom?
How and where can I go to post a picture of my finished bag? :D
Thanks
can you do more of a bottom before the mesh?
Is there a written version of this pattern somewhere. Thank you
Petty and not hard to do. Thanks for the demo.
I was wondering can I use 2 yarn strings at one time I do not have any cotton will it come out the same
Hello it would be nice to see the groceries in bag like box ed goods, canned goods then you know how much goes into bag
I have a question to ask you Mikey. I don’t have cotton yarns, can I used Caron yarns which has 80% Acrylic 20% Wool yarns and also Red Hearts yarns. I have so many different colors left over that I would like to use it. Don’t know what to do with all of these left over yarns.
Hi Micky,What brand of crochet hooks do you use and where can I purchase them? Thanks in advance,Mary
I think looks funny with this handle. Had to be double on both sides. Would look beyter
I'd just like yo ask how many rounds of the mesh part of the bag to measure 12inches please
Hiii...If I wanted to make this bag smaller...can i make my foundation chain shorter by multiples of 3? Thanks.
Thanks for your very helpful video! I really like this project. However, I have a request and a couple of questions: For us beginners, could you go more slowly and show the stitches at the beginning and end of rows, and at any other transitions, more clearly? I'm sure experienced crocheters understand what you mean, but sometimes it's hard to see just where the hook is going. Although I paid close attention to the directions, and in a couple of places had to go back and re-try to get mine to look like the video, the top of my finished bag flares out. I didn't have a 4.5 mm hook so used an H hook, and the bottom of my bag measures 13-1/2" and the top measures about 15". The top section directions were the easiest of all to me, so I don't understand why mine doesn't look like the finished bag in the video. This doesn't affect its usefulness, but I just wonder if others turned out this way. I don't understand why the top is bigger than the bottom. Also, was I supposed to turn the bag inside out before starting on the handle? The slip stitched section to attach the end of the handle looks better on the reverse side,. Not a big deal especially with ombre yarn, but I think it would be more noticeable with a solid color yarn. Again, thanks for a great video.

Do they respond privately to valid questions or something? We keep the channel alive. I’d be bummed out if I needed help and didn’t get a reply. I love these channels just now seeing the lack of replies.
I hope someone can answer this for me, I haven't seen a lot of replies to the "help questions" My question, when doing the base in sc, we only slip stitch on one side of the bag? Is that correct? Why not both sides?

Miller Mommy I am wondering the same thing. I guess since this question hasn’t been answered I’ll be trying it both ways to figure it out.
While I am doing my mesh rows it seems to be going bigger as I go up but I have been counting all my stitches. Any idea what I can be doing wrong?
@TheCrochetCrowd
7 жыл бұрын
If it's getting bigger, you have done what I have done on these types of projects. You most likely are counting mesh for stitches that should not be. It's hard to explain over email. If you are getting bigger, the project is relaxing but there should not be a mesh space count difference.
Can you double the size? Do 86 instead of 43
l can't find my 7 hook or a 4.25 hook can l used a H hook instead will it make a big difference or a G hook
@abc-wv4in
8 жыл бұрын
I'm about half done using my H (5.0 mm or size 8) hook, because I couldn't find a size 7 (4.5 mm) hook in the store. I think my bag is looking a bit larger than his, but it's not too large for a market or beach bag. I might try my G (4.25 mm) hook next time, idk. There are directions for a very similar bag inside the yarn label (Sugar n Cream, big 12 oz. skein of Emerald Isle), and it said use an H hook. If you are finished with yours now, how big did it turn out?
all l have is preaches and cream is that the same as sugar and cream and will that do l sure hope so

Terri Bailey That's what I used and an H (5.0mm) hook and my bag turned out just right.
Can you tell me how to increase this bag?
isn't this whole thing the same pattern as the beach bag

Would have been helpful (at least for me), if you would have nentioned the number of stitches we were supposed to have once in a while. ....very impt to some of us...lovely bag in any event
everything was going so well until i had to do a bathroom run and when i came back, my puppy had stolen my half finished base and eaten my bamboo 7 hook. SADNESS! i guess i gotta go up to michaels or joanns, now

Just do more than 43 chains, that will make the base wider:)
he said it was the same pattern. it was just labeled differently
Hi Mikey. I've tried to download the free pattern but it's not happening. Please help.

I'm not getting any errors in the link from the video description. I'm unsure why it's not working for you. I'm sorry.
Where can I get the sugar 'n' cream brand?

Joann's, Michaels, possibly Walmart. Pretty much any craft store that sells yarn.

Amazon also has some colors of it. I needed to add a small item to my order to reach the minimum for free shipping, so I added a couple of skeins of this yarn. It wasn't any better price than what's available locally, though. Perhaps any brand of 100% cotton, 4-ply or worsted weight yarn would also work?
Nice yarn yawn

When this bag is completed what is it’s size? Just watched the beginning and only 43 chain stitches so I’m thinking it’s not very big!
There is no center to 5 chains. Can I do 6 chains and sc in 5th chain instead?

Sherry B the 3rd stitch is the center. 2 on each side of it
