My experience with tactile was less than desired..but luckily was able to machine the replacement pivot I bought and paid for to fit my Rockwall. It was .0013 to big and would have been literally press fit at that size over..eventually machined. 0015 for a snug slip fit..works great now..sorry to hear the issues..good luck..

Anytime I’ve had vertical play that won’t go away on bar lock style knife, it’s almost always been that the pivot hole is too large for the pivot. Not sure if that’s the case here but I appreciate you putting out this video and I’m curious to see how this plays out.

A big reason that companies use ball bearings now is because they don’t have to have at tight of tolerances. Every company pretends that the bearings are an upgrade but they really are there many times because they are much more forgiving with blade tolerances. Bronze washers are by far more durable- especially if you use your “hard use” knife for outdoor hard use

Vertical blade play is not acceptable, considering the two asking prices. I've only had one Benchmade with vertical axis lock play, which I immediately returned. None of my dozen other axis lock Benchmades have any vertical play. The single Hogue Deka 2 that I own has no vertical play. Tactile needs to get these dialed in right, before I give them my hard earned $$$. This is the same comment I left on Neeves Knives video review of the Maverick.

Yeah I’ve had a few Axis Lock knives with a touch of side to side play. Even my 535-BK4 does…which drives me insane considering what I paid for it! But either way I’ve grown to not be too surprised when I see it (except on the few Ganzos I’ve owned, none of which have any lockup issues with that lock lol go figure). A lot of washer knives require an extensive break in. I’m my experience the more they have to break in the better the action ends up being. That being said. The one I received today has a perfect action right out of the box so maybe you got one where the tolerances are a little tight. The blade centering is not good. Hope they get it fixed for you.
@wasnt_it Жыл бұрын
I had the same problem with the Rockwall - the blade was so tight/ stiff action from the box. I adjusted the pivot to at least make the knife operable with one hand, but it shifted the blade to one side so much it was touching the liner.

I’ve seen this same issue with multiple tactile knives I own. I’m pretty sure this is because the washers aren’t the correct thickness. On a precision made knife, the washers need to be perfect. If they are too thin, they will be pinched on the front of the knife when it’s tightened to the point of getting the blade play out.

I get the complaint about blade play and lockup, I really do, I hate blade play myself, and the centering complaint is quite understandable too. @pateralus9 Жыл бұрын
That amount of blade play when the blade is dropping shut is definitely unacceptable. Initially I thought maybe it just needed to break in, but if you've owned as many premium crossbar lock knives as I have, you can instantly tell this is not right. You shouldn't have to tighten the pivot anywhere near that tight to eliminate blade play, especially with a titanium frame. And that's not even mentioning the vertical play, which is even worse to have. It's really a shame because I agree, visually this is a gorgeous knife. But aren't these around $330 new? I've had literally $25 crossbar lock knives that have absolutely rock solid lockup & instant drop shut action, even before being broken in. It's easier to achieve with bearings, but I've had this action or very close to it even on washer systems. I'm hoping it's just a matter of your stop pin being too short or too long, or maybe something causing your spacing between scales to be uneven from the rear to the front of the handle. The last thing I'll mention is, have you tried disassembling & reassembling it to ensure there's nothing seated incorrectly when it was put together? It's rare, but I've been able to fix similar issues just by reassembling knives in the past. But something tells me you're ultimately going to have to send it back to them so they can look it over. Definitely gives me second thoughts about buying any first run from Tactile, at least for a while. I did have an early run Rockwall that was fantastic, but I've heard the stories about other folks' knives having issues. Overall, I am rooting for them, of course. Please do a follow-up video to update us on what's going on with this! And good luck!

Appreciate your honest feedback and understand it's not easy making this kind of video but it's important to expose issues and give manufacturers a chance to correct any issues , Thanks Luc Knives .
Bear from tactile: “My personal Maverick has blade play too.” LMAO!! That line got me 😂😂
My experience with tactile was less than desired..but luckily was able to machine the replacement pivot I bought and paid for to fit my Rockwall. It was .0013 to big and would have been literally press fit at that size over..eventually machined. 0015 for a snug slip fit..works great now..sorry to hear the issues..good luck..
Greatly appreciate the insight. I've been definitely looking forward to this knife. Having second thoughts for sure. Look forward to seeing your follow up video man. Hopefully you get a solid replacement and it was just a mistake in QC.
Anytime I’ve had vertical play that won’t go away on bar lock style knife, it’s almost always been that the pivot hole is too large for the pivot. Not sure if that’s the case here but I appreciate you putting out this video and I’m curious to see how this plays out.
$300+ for that QC, oh man. Thanks, I almost pulled the trigger on it today but will pass on this one for now.
Such a shame. It’s really a nice-looking knife. And I can definitely vouch for Tactile and their QC issues when I ordered two of their first flipper Rockwall knives and sent both of them back. They definitely have some work to do.
USA made doesn't mean USA quailty just as China made doesn't mean China quailty. People need to learn that. Kizer does amazing r&d and QC for the price and there are some USA product at premium cost but is crap. Thank you for honest review
A big reason that companies use ball bearings now is because they don’t have to have at tight of tolerances. Every company pretends that the bearings are an upgrade but they really are there many times because they are much more forgiving with blade tolerances. Bronze washers are by far more durable- especially if you use your “hard use” knife for outdoor hard use

i've seen way too many videos of issues with tactile. I like what they're doing with it all made in usa and sourced locally but for their price with the quality ive seen I cant risk it.
So glad I watched your vid ! Thank you very informative Good luck getting your knife issues resolved Was thinking about pulling the trigger on that knife but way too many issues Thanx again Stay safe
At first I was thinking what you talking about but when you showed how much movement I was like damn that sucks . I’ve had a few crossbar locks too . I haven’t seen one this bad in moment before . Good video my guy !
Dude! The blade play on mine is ridiculous. I sent them an email so I can return it and get my money back. There’s no way they should’ve released these with that much blade play. What were they thinking.
The best axis style lock I've ever tried was on an Attn2detail Mark 3. They're incredible!

Glad I saw this. I had the knife in the cart. I’ll see what else there is in that price range first.
Thanks for the heads up 👍👍💜
Yes, unfortunately many Benchmade have the same problem. Rarely without blade play, and very expensive these days...! Your video is nice. 👍
I ordered 2 titanium, and 1 micarta. I had to send 1 titanium back, and it’s flawless now. The other 2 came a little stiff, but wore in nicely. I didn’t get my knives on the first drop, and believe they took care of the issues.
Have you tried a drop of oil? It may even take a bit of break in time
Thanks for the heads up !
Gotta say, mine was a little stiff at first, which I expected out of a washer knife. After a few days of playing with it, then cleaning it, and adjusting the omega springs to the tighter setting, it’s pretty good. My lockup is also solid. Maybe I just got lucky
Thanks for the warning man
The vertical blade play should eventually correct itself unless it’s really bad. Everyone’s tolerance acceptability ranges of course. Being the consumer that you are over the years you’ve experienced a huge price and quality range of knives so if you say it’s bad and it has issues I believe you.
man i'm so glad that i picked the magnacut malibu over this one, i was really back and forth paying $100 more and getting the tactile turn. sorry to hear about the issues you had, hope you got a replacement by this time!
My Maverick was arriving today. I watched your video yesterday and was really concerned and all ready to write an email to the company telling them why I wanted to return it. I got the package today. Opened it at the post office. Totally solid lockup, no lock rock, no blade play at all. Hmm? Go figure?
For anybody looking to buy a Maverick, my local knife shop Sharp Things OKC has a few more exclusive to them Mavericks in Fat Carbon Fiber Black Dunes. They told me only 50 were made. I bought one today and it looks sick!
My experience is many axis locks on washers start out like that, had lockup issues on them a bunch too

Seriously this is some whiney weird knife collector complaints. Leave it tight and break in the washers. Sounds like he wanted a drop shutty fidget toy instead of a knife.
But that amount of vertical blade play is just outright unacceptable and potentially unsafe.
I m sorry it has issues . They’re supposed to be precision made. I like the bugout ish design 100% . Let us know how it turns out please, thanks
My bet would be it is because it's on washers and not bearings. My TRM Shadow was stiff like that brand new but once you wear it in, it's butter smooth. Once you break in washers, I actually prefer that little extra bit of control.
@LUC.Knives

I've had plenty of other axis lock knives on washers without these issues
The Cmb predator is solid a f but I know what you mean . In order for a smooth action break in or deal with wiggle . Takes me about two months , lol . Actually most of them are cracked plots , tighten then crack the tightness.
Report from the trenches… I got the TI version. Blade centered perfectly, no play whatever in any direction. Needs a good sharpening.
If you want an amazing titanium axis style knife try (if you can find one) the TRM Shadow full ti. I picked one up at blade show last year and I don’t think it can get any better honestly.
I was weary of ordering after I saw your video, but I can report mine has no side to side or vertical play, is centered and has a hydraulic closing action.
A lot of washer knives require an extensive break in. I’m my experience the more they have to break in the better the action ends up being. That being said. The one I received today has a perfect action right out of the box so maybe you got one where the tolerances are a little tight. The blade centering is not good. Hope they get it fixed for you.
I had the same problem with the Rockwall - the blade was so tight/ stiff action from the box. I adjusted the pivot to at least make the knife operable with one hand, but it shifted the blade to one side so much it was touching the liner.
Thanks for the feedback.
I don’t know if this is a lemon or mine is, but I received micarta Maverick today. It has no bladeplay and great action (for me). I’m not big on the “gravity has to close the knife” action though… especially on washer knives. If it happens, like on my shaman, great! If it gets 50% there and needs a bit of help, like my maverick and deka, that’s fine too. Time will tell how it’ll break in.

Ultimately I would prefer sold lockup over action as well, but on this particular knife it doesn't matter how much you tighten the pivot, there is always play

Truth be told, I’m in the same boat. I sent mine back and was disappointed. I have also had a lot of Benchmades that gave me expected action. It is beautiful but that is all.
Just got Ti the lock-up is fine,. no up and down.
Commented before I read, and watched the resolution. This is a place holder.
Mine has less vertical play but it's still there. They claimed it's within spec, so I'm out of luck. It also came dull and has the wrong pocket clip installed, which they're sending to me for the cost of shipping. I'm not thrilled.
That’s too bad. I’m on the waiting list too. Eeesh. Thanks for the video. The customer service guy said his has play too!!?? It is slightly common for an axis but not bad play like this. My Hogue Ritter has no play and that’s a 175$ US made axis. And my pulsar is top notch, that I got for roughly the same price but Chinese made.
I really like the aesthetics of this knife but it feels like a model that needs to have a v2 version
Never been a fan of axis locks. I have a few but just don’t like them as much as everyone else seems to. My bugout is the same as your maverick. The only way to get rid of blade play is to make it a 2 hand open and close. Really like the look of that knife there’s not many things more attractive than milled titanium.
Had 2 with the same rock lock issues and blade play. This appears to be a real problem. Love the knife but tactile needs a redo here.
Sounds like Tactile needs to get with Kizer on how to make a clutch/axis style lock

Good vid, the algorithym is bumping u cause i did not search for this. I'm not the most experienced here but i would sell it rather than sending it back to manufacturer, some designs simply do not function as well as others, no sense forcing the issue with so many other options.
I get the complaint about blade play and lockup, I really do, I hate blade play myself, and the centering complaint is quite understandable too. However, I REALLY don't understand complaints about "drop shuttiness". I have no idea of why or how this became a favorable attribute in a knives' action. If my knife drops shut, fine, but I don't NEED it to.

I had a Bexar and it had issues I ended up selling it luckily I only lost $10 on it
I got mine a few days ago and I’ve had a really disappointing experience with it. The action is terrible. I have to two-hand close my maverick as well.
Like my Rockwall, the action is improving, still nowhere close to my BM, kunwu or kizers. But everything else is pretty nice. No blade play but the knife needs alot of coaxing to "swing" shut
I’d say there’s nothing wrong with it, you just want it to be a fidget toy and it’s not. Bar locks typically have some blade play. It could be you got a bad one though
Is it a Bearing or Phosphorus Bronze Washer Folder? If it's on Washers, you need to break it in with use. If it's a Bearing Folder, it is suspect. A Bearing Folder should just drop. :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I wouldn’t recommend the Rockwall either. I mean if you plan to just flic it, fidget and not use it as a knife, it might be ok. But I don’t trust the lockup WHATSOEVER on my particular Rockwall to use it as a knife.
Dang. I wonder why they let that one go out. Quite expect more out of Tactile. Best of luck with the outcome!

Tactile has zero quality control. I watched my friend unbox a rockwall directly from them that didn't even have a detent ball... I'm still excited for this, though.
Tactile with ANOTHER knife that has issues? Who could’ve seen this coming…
Great video for anyone new or getting into knives. No matter what you pay there will be multiple knives that have issues on you enthusiasts/collector/knife lover journey. Even Reate lol
Thanks. I would not have been happy with that.

You can see the blade play on video and that means it is awful
Way too many videos of the same issue for me. The Bexar and Rockwell seem to be generally well received but the Maverick seems to be worse than knives half it’s price. The Bugout is better and I paid $109 for it a couple of years ago.
Just got one today with bad blade play. Put it right back in the box and returned for a refund 🤦🏻♂️
That’s a bummer. It really is a great looking knife, but if a $60 knife can lockup with great action, you would expect a $300 to work well. I hope they can fix it for you.
For the money that's totally unacceptable. At one point this was Benchmades norm
Rockwall still has issues. I wouldn’t buy another tactile. It’s a sloppy design. The materials seem to be quality however.

This is a knife that feels like Tactile rushed to market. Almost all of the Chinese OEMs have WAY better axis-style locks than this. My Kizer Drop Bear puts this to shame. Unacceptable at this price point and a really bad look for Tactile. Disappointing!
Honestly I gotta disagree on your first point. I have only seen a very few BMs and other Axis lock knives on washers that had a swinging blade AND no blade play. I think you should at least let it break in before commenting on the action and how the blade drops. Give those washers a little while to break in. The vertical play though, that is whack!
Crap quality control. You shouldn't "hate to make videos like this". Crap workmanship should be called out...100%!! This crap shouldn't even be seen as acceptable on a knife one third the cost of this terrible Tactile knife. Tactile's customer services response to you, was also unacceptable. "Bear" might as well have told you "eff you...it is what it is. Deal with it".
