My uncle used to have a CAS that he'd use to help him herd our cattle in Uzbekistan. I'd loved him like my own as I'd known him since I was little, even in my earliest memory, he was there. But he passed away 3 years ago around 2019 from old age, I miss when I'd call him over and sneak him some bread or some meat. Though it makes me happy knowing he passed away trying to protect our family. As I don't know this for certain, but I heard wolves would wander away from the pack before passing away to ensure their carcass wouldn't attract any predators. He disappeared for a few days, which wasn't uncommon, but they eventually found him deep into the forest in our grandparent's property. I will always remember Barboss as my best friend.

I'm thinking about making a Saint Bernard Watchdog similar to the Moscow out of a cross between the Saint and the Caucasian. I'm pretty sure I'd like it better, it would be a little more low-key as far as the activity level it would require.

Love the breed so much, tho with the right motivation they are very fast learners and easy to train basic commands to. In the first month my pup knew basic commands without luring (recall, sit, stand, down, wait), but if he's distracted or something is more interesting than recalling back to me he will ignore. He does hear me tho, I have a special word for his favourite treat so that gets him running to me every time if he is ignoring. His dam is a very unmotivated dog yet still has a trick dog title, plus there are CAS titled in Rally obedience. Also a good CAS will be neutral with friendly/neutral strangers off property (which is how these dogs can attend dog shows). They aren't a walking liability like many online say. They don't need a property to be happy either, the right owners can definitely have them in the city. Just look at Russia, they are in the cities too. (My pup's sire is 4:56 btw 😊)

As a central asian i see alabais (central asian shepherd dogs) a lot. They are fucking big and if not taken care of properly are aggressive. I saw one shake a whole car he was locked in. So take that into consideration before actlly getting one.

Everything you said is true! I have a female and she guard us and our animals like no other. She is over protective of my kids and our small dogs. No one will step foot in our yard with her in it. She has also saved our chicken flock more than once and she’s only 1. My big girl is the best!

@@cryptojunkies3619if you are good at handling independent, strongwilled and outright dangerous(to anyone or anything it decides doesn't belong)(this skill must include the kids!). If improperly handled, that is poor owner leadership, and proper early pup socialization so they learn what is appropriate behaviour and physical contact. It is not unusual that they get out of hand quick, and few has the ability to correct bad behaviours... as pups they can get rowdy, and they do not understand their size and strength, and kids has been bitten badly. It is alot of dog in this breed. This means they are though to have due to... as said, how dangerous they are too everything it decides shouldn't be in its territory... and fuck up the socialization and you can forget having it loose if there's even a chance someone or someone else's pet get near your home. That includes your kids friends and leaving your kids alone with it. But do things right and it will be a lovely loving sweet thing you can trust. So I recommend... if you need to ask these sort of questions, do not get this breed without having previous experience with big dogs. And if you disregard that, have someone who knows what they are doing show you the ropes (and should live close enough that they or you can visit for hands on training)

We have a male he is 8 months 125 pounds he is super loving to the family but will not be friendly to strangers or other dogs. He loves the chickens and goats super friendly with farm animals. We love him and my boyfriend has experience with them which is why he took so long to get one. We are very knowledgeable with his breed and have family that also have about 8-10 Alabai’s . I definitely wouldn’t recommend them to people that haven’t researched them well enough. Or even first time dog owners. These dogs are powerful and an inadequate owner just won’t do.

I have owned two male Great Pyrenees, one male Kangal imported from the Sivas region of Turkey, and now 3 Central Asian Ovtcharka dogs. The Kangal and COA dogs have been wonderful property protectors and predator interdiction livestock guardians. I will be breeding my UKC Grand Champion with an import Kazakhstan female of champion/working bloodlines. My male killed 5 Coyote-wolf hybrids and my female killed one. The male also caught and unfortunately killed a bobcat, puncturing is skull with his massive canines, and took down 2 buck deer entering my property. These are not house pets, but working animals who generally prefer to be out doors, even in bitterly cold temperatures. The males are very large and imposing, 160 - 200+ pounds and exceedingly athletic. These are not slow, lethargic, lumbering Newfoundlands or Saint Bernards, but rather dogs capable of out-running hunting dogs, and capable of clearing 6 foot tall fences easily. However, I have found the CAO to less inclined to roam and leave property, as compared to the Great Pyrenees. My female is 155-160 pounds depending upon the season. She is exceeding Alpha, with a high order Active Defense Drive. I currently have a young subadult male (year old) at 33-33.5 inches at the withers, carrying significant bone, excellent top-line, with a marvelous head. He is going to be a very large boy.

Why would you get one for your first dog? Also people don't realize dogs are puppies till around 2, so you will see different traits for 2 years and it doesn't matter if you get from younge age, dogs are dogs and will react when they want. Having both a male and female, my male is a straight working gaurd dog but loves to be around just my family, anyone human being or animal outside of that won't happen. My female is very doscial and acts more like a typical American dog, two different lines as well. So just be ready, my female as great as she is, was never a dog park type of dog

I have a CAS and my son has GSD’s. They 100% tower and dominate the GSD. Not that I like or approve of violence with dogs but they are by far a superior breed.

Would they be good family and guard dogs at a normal home?

Yup as long as they have the right temperament. Low temperament. A good breeder will find a good fit.

They are excellent family and property guardians, even for smaller properties. The challenge you will discover is that they tend to consider huge areas as “their” territory. You will need fences that are tall (6,’ usually), and strong. It’s important for these dogs to have a job. They are always thinking, and need both mental and physical stimulation. Socialization is incredibly important, to prevent unwanted aggression towards strangers, as the dog matures. I’ve heard them described as “serious dogs,” and that’s a great description. They make wonderful companions, and could be happy just protecting a house with a yard. However, the owner will need to be diligent about socialization and providing daily mental and physical enrichment. As soon as this dog is bored, it will be out setting your neighborhood in order. With their size and strength, people are often scared of these dogs, if they are out wandering.

Idk but a lab or even a german shepherd can be subdued or handled if it gets crazy, a central Asian shepherd would be near unstoppable so you have to be sure you can handle it

ovcharka are measured in `neck` force. cause once they lock jaws - neck is doing the work. and their neck force is second only to wolf`s

Well I wouldn't want the dog on the left at 1:02. That abrupt dip in its back, just behind the shoulder blades, worries me to no end. Moving on... 1:12 this one running in the courtyard between the kennels has a panther-like grace, you'll see more of later on, near 1/2 way thru the vid; watch the movement of her back legs, it's like cogs've been greased inside her hip joints. 1:51 looks like a fine specimen, quite fit. The black and white dog with the mantle looks awesome!
