now i want to clarify something that your driver told as regards to taxi --------- you have route taxis that travel on a assigned route picking up passengers along the route and all of them pay their individual fare. which a lot cheaper than if you hired them to only carry you alone which we call charter in which case the person who hires the cab gets to go where they want for a fee negotiated between them and the driver......now there are vechiles that have the same red plate that only carry tourists in this case they are licensed and registered by the government to be able to work in those locations ....those prices are usually a set rate but still there is negotiation.......so when they tell u at the route taxi is picking families and friends and your paying for actuallly what may happen is that they charge the money as a charter but if the passenger is looks soft and doesnt know how the system stay they will take advantage,....but its not no families or friends but strangers and they charge them but the vistor may not see because the driver signals the local passenger to pay him on the kow.....anyway when back in mobay linkup

haha, that makes alot of sense. Thank you my friend. Yes, almost everyone that left our resort in those cabs came back really pissed so whenever they left again they made sure they had at least 3 to 4 people that could fill the car up so knowone else could be picked up lol

Just rent a car next time and use Google Maps on your phone. If you own a Garmin GPS unit you can purchase a Jamaica map software from jamnav.monagis.com/ and download it to your unit. It's more stress free driving yourself than taking taxis down there.

Nice video. But the information on the taxi is a bit mis-informed. Taxi fare in Jamaica is way cheaper that in the states, bcz its not based on a meter but rather from point A to point B. Set by the government. Eg. Mobay to Kingston which is 3 - 3.5 hrs straight drive is only 9.00 USD. So in order to make a profit the taxis must take max capacity and each passenger pay a individual fare. This is the general system. Different routes may have pick up and drop off points in between so you will find passengers getting in and out the vehicle and will pay the driver also. Your safety is fine. Its just the system. If you want a private taxi where no other passenger gets in or out the car, then you must ask the driver for a charter. This will cost more. A charter also allows the driver to go off their assigned/ registered route. You may also take a vehicle that the hotel recommends and usually have reserved, but this will also cost more. A taxi picking up and letting off passengers makes the fare cheaper for you bcz those passengers also have to pay. Their not traveling on your but their own and vice versa.

I have been going to JA for 20 years and much of what you say is true. I have been a travel agent for 28 years. My husband is Jamaican and I live there back and forth. Where you stayed was in Lucea which is halfway between Mobay and Negril. Our home is about 10 minutes from Lucea headed towards Negril. Note, there are two taxis systems in Jamaica. Route and Charter. The red plates are the route taxis and you will share your ride. The white plates are charter and you pay more and it's yours only. I take a small group of 12 to Jamaica every year for off the beaten path cultural tours and fun. Next time you go stay in Negril. I love Negril. The beach is 7 miles long and fantastic. Glad you had fun..

Michelle, aside from Montego Bay and Negril, Ocho Rios is another hot spot and a lot of the attractions are right there in town. You don't have to travel far away from your resorts for many popular attractions. Dunn's River falls. Dolphin Cove and Mystic Mountain are right there in the town of Ocho Rios. A casino is there as well, loads of restaurants, night clubs, supermarkets and souvenir shops. Not to mention the famous Margaritaville, which houses a movie theater and the populat Devon House ice cream store.

Just got back. Tips are legit. The country is beautiful...but the people-expect to be made super welcome and really grow quickly attached to some especially if you are there for more than a few days. They work so hard to make sure those of us come have a really good time. It's clear they are all really proud of their home and want to show it and the food/culture off. Not everyone is the same-some are very religious and some are Rastafari and live a different way...just be thankful, friendly and as kind as you can be and it make everything chill for everyone. #respect #onelove #blessed

Jamaica is a beautiful place to visit. If you rent a car be sure and request one with tinted windows. I've driven all over the Island, and it's true the citizens are very polite and helpful. The roads are very rough, so drive carefully, and watch out for pedestrians and goats walking close along side of the roads. Those all inclusive resorts are an absolute blast! You'll meet people from all around the world visiting this vacation wonder land. The food is fantastic, and be sure an try the Blue Lagoon mixed drink!

I've been to Jamaica five times about to be six and everything you guys said was exactly true to the last word! Great video! The only thing I would add is that Jamaicans really don't rush like we Americans. When they say don't worry they really mean don't worry. Have a great day you guys and keep up the videos.

Love the info! Just want to add one correction...I lived in Jamaica for over a year and depending on where you are it can rain year round because it's the tropics! Actually some areas are wetter then others like Portland (Port Antonio), St. Mary, and St. Ann (Ocho Rios). These are the lushest greenest areas because it rains! In Portland it rained almost everyday. But the rain was usually short and dried up very quickly. The actual rainy season when it rains all of the time, almost non stop is anytime from October to January. So if you are thinking about a Jamaican holiday during Thanksgiving or Christmas be prepared for possibly a lot of rain! Because of climate change the rainy season can either be one of those months or several months during that time frame. But from my experience in the northeast (i.e. Portland to Ocho Rios or even as far as Montego Bay) the rainy season is around that time.

I have been there on a cruise but you know of course you can't experience everything because you have to be back on the ship at a certain time so me and fiance decided to just fly plus I will be celebrating my October 2018 birthday then. Warning. We have been going to Jamaica for 20 years and have noticed a huge spike in sex crimes against tourists. More worrying is the fact there have been several reports of rape within the confines of resorts. Stay safe and DO NOT walk alone after dark. EVEN ON THE RESORTS.
