20 years before Tom Selleck's great performance as too-good-to-be-true P.I. Lance White, his ancestor appeared alongside Jim Garner in Maverick's most highly rated episode. A classic.
(You can't help but feel sorry for Waco, though. He's about to marry Nurse Ratched!)

Both Waco and Lance were perfect characters to play off Garner's TV persona...and Preston & Selleck played them superbly.
It cut off before it showed the best part!! “He did everything a man shouldn’t do…he got the money, he got the girl…could I be wrong?”
@Shatner Method I have finally gotten to Rockford season 5 and have just seen the Lance White episode. It was fantastic and the chemistry between Jim and Tom just shows how good of friends they were offscreen. It's also one of the funniest Rockford episodes i've seen thus far. I never thought i'd see Magnum and Rockford together LOL.

I think they had a lot of fun with that too, Kendall. Season 6 ,Ep. 7, "Nice Guys Finish Dead," is perhaps even more hilarious as the humiliations for Jim vs. too-good-to-be-true Lance are relentless (hopeless Fred Beamer and ulcered Vern St. Cloud also make appearances.)

I love this episode..and it's my ALL TIME FAVORITE Maverick episode.. WHY this guy wasn't given a series...PLAYING Waco Williams...I don't know.. It would have been a HUGE HIT!.. He did do Colt 45...but...it wasn't quite the same...

Nice to see nurse Ratched portrayed as something else other than a mean spirited nurse. She was one of best parts to hate about One Flew over the Cucus nest.

I loved James Garner and Jack Kelly except Jack dying of a stroke come on!
Cain't get it t' play, but Louise Fletcher (is/was) was made to appear ,let's jus say not attractive in Nest. Actually, quite good lookin', especially at this eps' time, about 12 years B 4 Cucuoo.
