My dad and stepmum own two border collies. They're so sweet and smart. Every time I visit and see them, they're always doing something unique. They are quite different from each other though! The older male has endless energy and is OBSESSED with his favourite toys, anything that can be thrown. He chases flies and birds. He has over 1000 word vocabulary. The female is precious, extremely cuddly, little attention seeker!

I have a border collie Australian shepherd mix. She’s the chillest dog I’ve ever had besides my purebred lab. She’s only got work to do on leash because when she’s out she wants to GO and I’m slow af 😂 otherwise if I’m just chillin all day she’s super relaxed and lays with me. She’ll do some turns and do that nip the air bark some dogs do to indicate she wants or wants to do something. But otherwise she’s calm as hell smartest dog I’ve ever had tho she knows sit shake lay down stance (which is the term for lay down when throwing her ball) and she does high ten and hug and kiss where when I’m sitting on the bed with her I tell her give hug and she comes up wraps her paws around me and kisses me on the cheek

Except when she was a wee pup, my Aussie/BC, Gem (the Empath) was not destructive. Gypsy Rose Lee hated dog clothes‐sweaters, headbands, and don't even mention dog shoes! She was my first r/w girl and probably wanted to be another stripper. JackBNimble and his girlfriend-Gypsy's cousin/BFF-were nibbles and grew quickly out of that stage. They were busy, herding small animals in our yard, and looking after us when not going for their walkies.

Ours has had second breakfasts on multiple occasions by rooting and hiding the empty food tins out of the bin and fooling another member of the family that she is famished (after removing the evidence she has been fed). Another thing to consider is the fact that if they are healthy they live a very long life. My aut had a border collie and when my aunt passed away I took the dog and she passed away at 21 yrs old. Her father passed away at 24, my aunt was still alive, and they still did not die from old age, it was from illness. So my point is, I think people should consider this aspect when they decide to get a dog, or any pet. This is the type of dog for a more settled family, maybe better for a younger family, because they are extremely active and they will be with you for a very long time.

We adopted our third Border Collie Clayton from a loving family that unfortunately didn't have the experience, resources, time and space to care for him. He was exhibiting manic, reactive behavior and was very frlearful. He has been with us for four months and has improved exponentially since coming to live with us. He walks 10 to 15 miles a day and is run with ball 3 or 4 times a day. He is off leash trained and an absolute lover. He is only a year old and is extremely energetic and quite prone to zoomies. 😊We are often visited by his former family and they cannot believe that he is the same puppy. As you said in the video, most times, a Border Collie is not the best choice for a first time inexperienced dog owner. They are incredible pets when they bare properly cared for.

This breed is very hyper and highly intelligent. My daughter owns one that is literally obsessed with balls. Has the most captivating blue eyes I’ve seen on a dog. Has beautiful markings on his body: various grey colors, and mostly white long hair. Beautiful & highly intelligent breed!

I've had 5 border collies. All 5 of them were "throw away" dogs because the people that got them as puppies didn't want them as adults. BCs are amazing companions if you put in the time with them.

I have chronic pain and fatigue but I have two GSDs and a BC ages 11 months, 2 and 3 years. They are walked about 90 minutes per day but I have flare ups sometimes and have to skip walks for two days in a row. I’m in UK so we have a tiny backyard. How do I have such contented dogs without any behavior problems? Well 1) I currently don’t work so they are not home alone all day. I realize that’s not possible for most people BUT households where it’s a single working person or two working people who are gone 50 hours per week should NOT have these breeds! At least be a home where there are people coming and going (like older kids in the home) or if you work different shifts so the dogs aren’t home alone more than 5 hours per day. 2) NEVER CAGE THEM. Lifelong dog owner and NEVER owned a crate. Your crate is the cause of more problems not the solution. It is psychological abuse. It creates a TRAP if there is a fire in your home then your dog is literally toast. Also if there is a break in, the intruder can HARM your dog (I worked at an alarm company and this happened to customers who caged their dogs). Do NOT use a crate if you want a happy healthy dog. 3) Lots of natural chews especially during the first two years. They NEED to chew. Chewing keeps them BUSY and engaged, and they won’t chew your furniture if they have something to chew on. I leave a big pile of chews in different textures down on the floor until the puppy is fully mature. 4) GIVE THEM A MATE. Having a friend for company makes a HUGE difference in how contented they are. A companion helps fulfill emotional needs and they can play with each other instead of releasing energy destructively.
