Beethoven: Trio for 2 Oboes and English Horn in C major, Op. 87 (with Score)

Ludwig van Beethoven:
Trio for 2 Oboes and English Horn in C major, Op. 87 (with Score)
Composed: 1795
Performed: Marilyn Zupnik, Kathryn Greenbank, Elizabeth Starr Masoudnia
00:00 1. Allegro (C major)
10:27 2. Adagio (F major)
15:13 3. Minuet. Allegro molto. Scherzo - Trio (C major)
17:53 4. Finale. Presto (C major)
Beethoven wrote a great deal of music for various combinations of wind instruments during his teens and 20s. Some of this was intended for the Bonn court of the Elector Maximilian Franz, who maintained an ensemble of wind players, and some represented Beethoven's attempt in Vienna to teach himself to write idiomatically for winds as he prepared to compose a symphony. But his Trio, Op. 87 comes from a different genre altogether: it was intended for the growing number of amateur performers in Vienna. Beethoven composed the Trio for the unlikely combination of two oboes and English horn in 1794, shortly after his arrival in that city (and he actually wrote another work for this particular combination of players, a set of variations on "Là ci darem la mano" from Don Giovanni).

Don't mind me Oboists but when I listen to this music, I visualize a little pool with a duck family singing

I agree. I'm very fond of oboes, and I thought it was a little cute that the sound was once described as "if a duck were a songbird".

Well, Beethoven himself did once depict a quail with an oboe.
Our Oboe section in my youth orchestra would play this during the reception before the concert. Great memories
This is such a ridiculously good recording from all 3 players. Bravo
I remember this piece fondly. First chamber piece I played in college, granted it was an arrangement for 3 clarinets. I still hear myself humming it every now and then

I can relate with the clarinet and oboe families.
This is definitely a great look into the earlier, more Classical Era Beethoven work. I love it.
Who would believe Oboe and English Horn can do such an harmonious interpretation, veey beautiful

It's not that surprising since the English horn is really an "alto oboe", the name is just misleading.
Wow, this is such a great piece. Beethoven never fails to deliver.
It sounds cute lol

Beethoven was a cute man
Just brilliant. And beautifully performed.
This wonderful performance speaks to the soul, and embodies the musical aesthetics of Beethoven
Such a beautiful performance! Thanks for sharing!
Terrific !
Excellent.
Brings back very fond memories of band-days many days ago!!
Hearing that made me want to compose an Oboe Quartet: 2 Ob., EH, and one Bass Oboe/Heckel/Lupophone. Get to work.
Beautiful.

It is written already in the description! Composed: 1795. And I don't think Mozart ever use Corno Anglais (English Horn) in his music, I think the only used Corno Basetto (or Bassetto)

Beethoven was not always anger, strength and passion, he also has happy, simple or children's works and many he composed after 1805 onwards, so if you are going to criticize Mozart's music for being always happy or childish, I recommend that you first listen all the work of Beethoven 😉 Listen to these works by Beethoven that do not sound with that fury that their fans boast so much about, this is just a sample, I missed more, but then I added them.
