Wonderfully colourful score!
Nice work Tama. Even just the opening chord made me rewind and repeat it, it was so beautiful. I wasn't so keen on some of the dischords, though, particularly the low cello / bass dissonances in the first 2 bars of the allegro. Trills and tremolo made a great way to interpret the piano figuration after B. Well done!
TAMA AUSTIN: Really beautiful arrangement with unique instrument lines. As Thomas mentioned though, sometimes the harmony sounds different from the original. I am not sure if that was intentional or not. But I was pleased with the result, overall.
I found the use of tremolo strings and trills a very interesting solution to the rapid piano figurations. Truly you have found very creative solutions to the problems inherent in orchestrating the piano version. I was a little confused by the order of the Bb to B in the Violin 2 measure 12, which seemed backwards from the Beethoven original. THOMAS: Am I correct that the horn will cover and smooth out the potentially rough sound of the oboe's low opening note? I am not familiar with cutaway scores, but would the Violin Solo staff be expected to show a G Clef, and where would that normally be located?
@OrchestrationOnline I find that when I'm working with VST recorded with real instruments, like the Berlin Orchestra one, that I have to notate pizzicato and arco parts completely separately to avoid bleeding and cut-offs. Fully synthesized VST's tend not to cut off, unlike in the mockup in this video.

I tried using a VST in MuseScore, and I couldn't find any way of using the pizz. and arco sounds properly without using a separate staff for each. I just went back to using MuseSounds.

@JScaranoMusic Exactly. Sometimes I have to use separate files for the notation and for the mockup for this reason.

@@duVillage Yeah I think it's still technically possible to do it in one file using linked staves, but it means you end up having 15 staves for the string section, with only 5 of them visible. Still pretty messy.
Hi Tama, what a wonderful light score. My only critique would be the Harmony in the B section. The idea is wonderful, but the resulting Harmony is sometimes a bit “of” to my sense. But it’s a creative solution. When you use a divisi staff in the strings, I would rather have pave a complete staff as the resulting “Picture” is rather restless now. In short I like the A section as most, but the Idea in B is cool, but could use a second look at the Harmony.
@OrchestrationOnline you asked for speculation on the sudden changes during the mockups - I suspect that it is the result of putting it in a DAW, switching from one sample to another but not going through the mixing and mastering process. I'm only just learning about this so I might be wrong of course
Beautiful oboe opening with the bassoon and horn doubling. Thomas already warns you for some wrong harmonies, so I’ll leave those alone. I like the trills and the tremolos in section B, that’s a very original approach to the ‘sixteenths’ challenge. You replace it with a total different kind of motion, thereby circumventing many pitfalls. I’m not sure the solo violin will be audible in the ff tutti towards reh.C. Nice contrasts in section C.
Tama Austin: Lovely oboe, clarinet, and flute features… but your flute needed to be an octave higher at the beginning to be heard. ☹️ Lovely delicate textures throughout. Delightful realisation!
