    I’m not sure people understand the levels this guy has reached in his craft. I legitimately think this may be THE highest achievement in history by a human. Those who’ve spent countless hours playing the violin understand this. A small percentage of violinists can reach levels where you can play Paganini and Ernst quite well, and you’ll still NEVER be able to do the things this guy can do. And it’s not even just that he’s able to play the notes, which in itself would be close to impossible for many due to not having even the sheer physical abilities, he plays incredibly musically. It’s like, if everyone is trying to achieve a 3:30 mile run, and then all of a sudden someone comes and does a 2:30 mile run.

    Beethoven himself wrote many passages for violin that consist of multiple voices. Bach before him composed 3 full-blown fugues for solo violin. It isn't a new or redefined idea. But using your thumb on the fingerboard? That's pretty unique for this instrument.

  • @Musicrafter12

    Bach's fugues often have only one voice doing anything substantial at a time, maybe two. Tedi Papavrami transcribed the Great G Minor for solo violin a while back -- now that's true polyphony. Roman is doing something similar, except incorporating all kinds of wild extended techniques and requiring insane contortions that make it much, much harder.

    The first solo “polyphonic” virtuoso violinist/composer to eclipse and even surpass the great Paganini. This is tantamount to “one giant leap”. What a great privilege to behold this astonishingly gifted genius deliver yet another unprecedented and unrivaled performance milestone in music. Will virtuosi be courageous enough to take on this piece as part of their repertoire? Perhaps, but these masterpieces will stretch and task us “mere mortal” violinists beyond our limitations of dexterity and precision. Witnessed here indeed is audacious and ground-breaking mastery and creative prowess. One need only listen to solo works such as his “I Brindisi”, “Dies Irae”, Mozart “Eine Klein Nachtmusik”, and “Sanctus et Agnis”, to see the powerful progression. Like Paganini, Kim’s innovative music/techniques will continue to evolve and transcend, freeing us from the mediocrity of conformity, redefining what is possible with a bow and four strings.🎻

  • @aegeanenjoyer668

    @aegeanenjoyer668

    Ernst already did that and for solo violin, surpassed Paganini. Kim is on the same league if not higher when it comes to fully harnessing the possibilities of the violin as a polyphonic instrument. Although there are others doing it too, for Bach or Liszt for example. So it's more like people are finding this way to further advance violin technique. That, and guitar transcriptions with endless controlled ricochets (see Ricci's or Leong's transcriptions).

People without musical discrimination (or ones filled with jealousy) work behind the scenes to discredit him or play down his accomplishments. This is something different even than that though. I may just be ignorant but I don't know anybody who's stretched the instrument like this since Ernst-- so in the last 150 years. I feel like the what's possible on the violin is suddenly different. I can't even feel bad about my own playing because of how in awe I am. Unreal.

    In Roman's video titled "ROMY KING plays HIGHWAY STAR of DEEP PURPLE [Violin Solo]" there's a comment thread that has his replies explaining about his fingerboard with those fret like bumps. Original comment is from Roman himself "Thank you guys!!!" One person asked in the replies "What's that fingerboard?" and he replied "Fingerboard i developed myself .I make many experiments on violin)" and then 2 people asked "It looks very interesting! Can you explain the benefits of these little fret-like bumps? I would like to try that fingerboard!" and "What does that fingerboard does?" and he replied "make sound much more precise. it gives many things-i cant explain,but you can understand when you try this.but you must to play violin a bit different way-fingers must be putted much more flat for example" and "maybe) but you know i play with this things something like 1 year. . .that is experiment.i can play precise on violin without,i played whole my life on normal violin-hear my earlier videos. but about precise i mean in a big hall. you can hear difference in big hall. about microfone-maybe more,i dont know)" So I guess it makes sense to be using that kind of fingerboard to play these out of this world chords. Absolutely mind blowing!

    It's hard for a solo violin to approach the power of a full orchestra, so the fact that you were able to recreate it so well is amazing! And the similarities of some parts - I did a double-take a few times thinking the audio somehow got switched. This was well worth the wait! 👏👏👏

    The amount of genius, inspiration, dedication, and plain hard work to do this is astounding. Roman is a true pioneer.
