BEET GREENS, The Super Simple Super Food.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Beet greens are highly nutritious and easy to grow in container gardens and raised beds. I start my beets in seed trays and transplant the seedlings into a hoop house. I have great gardening success and a large harvest even in our short growing season here in the north. Beet greens are super nutrition and can be eaten raw in salads or steamed and served in many dishes. They also make great omelets. They are very easy to grow.

MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
Video of icebox:
Video of Gas Refrigerator:
Propane Freezer:
Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

Beet Greens bring back some memories from my childhood, I forgot how great tasting they are! I didn't realize they could be harvested that way, I will surely be adding them to my garden next year, thanks for sharing!

I started growing beet greens last year when I found a bundle of organic beetroot (tops had been cut off) on offer at my local supermarket. I planted the roots in pots on my windowsill and they just keep growing! despite being harvested regularly...I now keep a regular look- out for the organic bargain beets and have them in pots all over my apartment. Best veg ever and full of potassium

My grandmother was born in 1889 and when I was a little kid told me that girls used to slice a beet and dab it across their cheeks to give them rosy cheeks. She made the absolute best pickled baby beets ever. I love beets.

J.C. I like that you took the time to reach out to those who you are unable to reply to and let them know you read their comments! it shows your character and the type of person you are! That attitude is in part what makes your vids some i eagerly watch for and enjoy spending time watching. Beet greens and turnip greens were a part of what I grew up on. Fry up some bacon and stir the greens in with some spices and serve with beans and corn bread! Brings back memories for sure....

What a great video Boss. As I continue to watch your garden videos, I really appreciate the time you take to not only show the harvest, but how to prepare the harvest for meals, and the different dishes you make. The omelet recipe sounds fantastic! Thank you again for your efforts and God Bless you my friend.

Great salad too they even sell at grocery store as "spring mix" which I had to iceberg for my own salad mix. I go further and use lemon and olive oil as a dressing yum

Real good info on the containers and how to manage them. I am not to much into beets or greens but the container method will certainly work on other plants. I have some of the plastic barrels so i am build some of those. Another good video JC.

Definitely envious. My garden is done for the year. The wet spring left lots to be desired. On to next year. So glad your garden is doing well. I will be saving leaves this year to test your mulching method! Until the next video. . . thanks Boss! :-)

+Kristene Schmitt Gotta tell ya Kristene, I've put less work into this garden than any garden I've ever had but never had success like this. It must be the mulch. Mulch away :-))

Another well done video my friend. Love beet greens! Your method is a good one. In the past I mixed beet seeds, Swiss Chard and leaf lettuce and broad-casted it in a raised bed. Came out OUTSTANDING !! I just "chick chicked" it , like grass seed. We are all going to be sooo healthy :-) Really enjoy your videos JC. Happy Autumn!
