You do realize that just because something doesn't physically exist or can not be physically held/touched, it can still be described? For example, there are foods in cartoons and animes that look good to eat but realistically can not be made because the ingredients don't exist. That can also be applied to characters as well. That's the whole point of giving characters certain appearances and personalities. That way, people can either relate, take a liking to, or even be inspired by characters from a fantastical world. Plus, it's a huge compliment to the artist/animator because the work they put in is good or even great.
