Been In The Family Since NEW - 1959 Ford 961 Powermaster Tractor - Classic Tractor Fever
Steve shares the story of his 1959 Ford 961 Powermaster Tractor his father bought new at 1959. The family used the tractor for years farming with it and using it in pulling competitions. Built from 1958 to 1962, the 961 has a four-cylinder, gasoline engine rated at 50 horsepower. Steve was just 10 years old when his father brought this tractor home, and he plans on keeping it in the family for generations.

That's a beautiful little tractor. I'd be proud of it too.
Steve was great for doing this interview. He was gleaming with enthusiasm for that 961. What an amazing tractor.
Steve reminds me so much of my Dad. These people are the Salt of this country. God Bless them and wow what a tractor.
My 1955 Ford 640 has been in the family since new. My great grandfather bought it. I’m putting it back together as we speak after a teardown for paint. When one of my kids or nephews inherits it they will be the fifth generation on the same tractor.
Steve certainly has some real special stories to share, loved them. Seems like a great guy, also has a great looking Ford 961. Thanks for sharing.
What a great old Ford! They were a great tractor for small farms especially. Pulled 3 "14s with it! Those weights helped I bet!
My Dad brought home a 1959 981 gas in 1974. I asked him why he didn't find a diesel. He thought they started too hard in the winter. EVERYBODY had diesels running in the winter. I vowed to myself if I ever found a diesel built the year I was (1960) I would own it. It took 45 years but I have one exactly like I wanted. (Avatar) It needs a few refinements but retirement is on the horizon. My Uncle had an 861 which is the utility equivalent. They will pull 3-14 about anywhere, we pulled 3-16. Some guys pulled 4-14. The M&W kit raised the compression a half point and increased the bore slightly for nearly 62 hp. Planing the head to make it flat and a slightly thinner head gasket, an industrial distributor with vacuum advance plus turning the governor to about 3000 gets some real power but the outboard housings for the row crops can't handle it on a good sticky track for very long.

Wow what a jewel! Congratulations on the fantastic restoration job. My wife’s favorite tractor too!
Beautiful tractor , great monument to this gentleman's father . 👍🇬🇧
It was and still a beautiful tractor , I'm same age and fina own a 961
I love that tractor and that hat, thanks for sharing
I bought an 851 powermaster off a guys lawn. In pieces, missing parts everywhere. Spent over 2K finding parts and did all the work myself. Can't turn full range to the left. Otherwise, it's a good working little tractor. Not near looking new or beautiful, but she runs, and that is what counts.
I own one and it was the first tractor i ever learned to drive on.
Beautiful!!!
What a great looking machine.
That is a really good looking im not trike fan but i love this trike makes it that much better
What a machine
A great tractor thanks for sharing
My uncle has one of those with a select-o-speed. This one is in very nice shape
First like and comment!
"Very Nice,,!!" 😎
I wish I could afford to buy a tractor
Wasn't there blue ones?
I'm rather more sick than not of the onslaught of JD and IH here. There were others, and just as good. You discount the Case DC. The Ford 961. The Minneapolis-Moline U. I dare any of these to outpull Minneapolis-Moline! And you are arrogant enough to discount the Oliver 88 super waukesha diesel, the wd-45 diesel? I'd love to see these up against the JD 60's or the Fatmall M. Good. But never better. Now we have JD- with proprietary repair. How's that workin for ya?
My 8n will pull 3- 14s with ease
