Beekeeping | How To Read Frames & Can You REUSE Old Frames?

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Beekeeping is all about bees drawing our the frames we give them. From year to year these frames get older and older. Can we reuse these old frames? Why do some frames have strange patterns? I'll answer these questions and more in today's video.

Im doing my first spring inspection tomorrow because the weather has been to cold to do it earlier here in the sierra mountain's of CA. I'm going in to my second year as a new bee keeper and your channel has been a huge help, in more ways than I can express. Your attention to detail and clear instructions are very appreciated. Thank you!!!

Great advice as always. It's my second try at beekeeping this year. My first colony fell vicitm to robbing last fall which like you have preached is likely because they were not getting enough food during the derth and the queen stopped laying. My mentor more or less advised me that the bees would take care of themselves but in hindsite his mindset is from a commercial standpoint where loosing a fews hives isn't a big deal. A single hive is more valuable to us home gamers and its much easier for us to spend a little extra time and money to give our hives the best chance at being healthy. I doubled down this year and hedged my odds of sucess, using my mentors old 10 frame with old comb for one package and a new 8 frame for the second. It will be a fun experiment and since I live where the winters are quite cold its kind of the heir and a spare approach.

Awesome stuff. Nice installed in first deep and loaded 10 frame in two deeps. Happy queens and waiting for the first real inspection next week. You have been an inspiration along with the family to do this.

Good Video David, I have so much of this old comb and I hear the question a Lot also, I use old and use comb all the time and the bees don't seem to care, they just clean the cells and before you know it the queen starts Laying in the old comb that The bees cleaned up. Good video David and good info, Take care David :)

Is true that dark combs make bees swarm due to their smell or its a myth . Your effort and information given to us is highly appreciated...

What is the best way to replace an old frame that is in the brood area and has brood on it where the queen is actively laying? Should you move it closer to the wall or to a box above a queen excluder and let the brood hatch first? I would like to see a video on this! Thanks!

I got and installed 2 5 frame nucs in 10 frame boxes on the 15th of the month. They're draining a quart of bee syrup each in a little over a day.. I'm hoping it's all going to new comb, any ideas ? I was holding off inspecting till around 2 weeks , but I'm getting curious as to how far along they are.. I don't want to wait too long before I give them a second deep for brood. I live in the Ozarks of Mo. so I figure they'll need it. Thanks for all you put out there I'm following along and trying to learn as I go..
