    I have always loved, “The Duke” it’s a very sexy looking airplane. Comfortable seats inside, appears to be going 100 knots sitting on the ramp. I am very envious of your airplane, sir.

    Loved your comment sir; sexy plane it looks fast sitting on the ground ! Kindly my old man bought one back in 1988 pressurized too in Caracas/ Venezuela,and before had a Baron 52,flew all his life since he was16 years got his Pilot license in Texas. Do recall he used to say that the DUKE was a really fast airplane. It would nice too to see a video of your stunning Duke flying sir thank you for sharing indeed.

    I never understood why Beechcraft didn’t design a door with an air stair. That looks like it would be difficult for an elderly person to get into. Not sure there is anything that sounds as good as a Duke taking off!

    i understand what you were trying to say about the turbocharger at +fl23. it isnt normally aspirated that altitude, normally aspirated would be no turbo or super charger at all, but the turbocharger like you said is holding sea level power up to that point and is making the most available boost . i have always loved the duke. thats cool that you get to own and fly one. question, with the waist gates, do you still need to watch MP on take off for overboost, or do the waistgates keep that under control ? thanks

  • @rosspipelines1

    @rosspipelines1

    fly wayne they are throttle limited. But you have to watch them so you don’t overboost them. But they manage themselves.

  • @BLAMBERRY

    great video and walk around! Question though- the prop radius appears quite small compared to the engine blocks. It appears as if half the thrust created by the props is used to cool the engine or blocked by the engine intlet while the other half(outer) actually provides thrust. Does this make the duke feel underpowered?

  • @rosspipelines1

    @rosspipelines1

    5 жыл бұрын

    BLAMBERRY the takeoff RPM is quite high 2975 RPM. It cools nicely, only at high altitudes will it get warm requiring you to open the cowl flaps. I think the Cessna twins are geared engines allowing a larger prop diameter. Power is excellent. Just have to stay ahead of the power curve. Enroute Cruise is flown at 32”mp and 2500rpm. Burning about 50gpm and yielding around 211 knots at altitude FL220

    The dukes are renowned for not being able to use the horsepower of their engines to the same effect as their contemporaries, this is attributed (in part) to the smaller diameter of the props. Still a very nice aircraft though!

  • @flywayne9362

    @flywayne9362

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@waynehardy66 one thing you need to remember on prop diameter, the prop must not exceed the speed of sound which will cause cracking and inefficiency . the smaller the diameter, the faster it can turn, in this case as Mike mentioned, a high 2975 to make HP. very large diameter props like a P51 mustang must have a gear reduction for the same reason, run the engine at high RPM for high power output, but not overspeed the propeller. in fact the q400 props only turn 900rpm at redline and cruise rpm is somewhat lower.

    Nose baggage is no bigger than a Baron or 340. If you want a turbo twin and need space-421 is probably a better choice.
