What's cool about the video, is little brother Andy with them. If I hear the song Tragedy, I think of him and really the later but too early loss of the other 2. It was a bit sad watching Barry alone getting honored at Kennedy Center Honors. Emotional for him. But if only one brother survived for that honor, he was honestly most deserving. Amazing writing and producing talent. Speaking of which, Travolta was a great talent. Worked his butt off (literally to fit into those pants) to learn to dance for this part. Became a very good actor also out of sheer determination.

This song was out about 2 years before the movie ever came out. John loved dancing to it so they added it in the movie. This song was very popular in the black community and I believe it went to #4 on the Soul chart. It went to #1 on the Billboard chart and stayed #1 on the Dance Chart for about 7 weeks.

Saturday Night Fever was a phenomenon. It took the country by storm for a year or so until over saturation kicked in and people moved on to the next thing. And in the middle of it, The Bee Gees starred in the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band film along with Peter Frampton. It was a rock opera based on The Beatles album of the same name. Highlights include "Got to Get You into My Life" by Earth, Wind & Fire, "Come Together" by Aerosmith, and "Get Back" by Billy Preston. The film made sense in the larger arc of The Bee Gees career, but in the moment it seemed to run against the grain of the music on the massively successful SNF album.

***"SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER" / BEE GEES TRIVIA TIME!!** ..gotta keep SMILIN'......(2:25)....The Soundtrack became the BIBLE of Disco Music, but it has a backstory.....I'll give the crib-notes..... - ...The Bee Bees were asked to add Songs to a 1976 Movie about an Inner city Italian Guy who loves dancing (based on a Magazine article from 1975); The Bee Gees were touring, and added some quickie tunes, thinking that would be it......uh-OH....... - ...Their tunes, "More Than A Woman", "How Deep Is Your Love", "Night Fever", Stayin' Alive", "If I Can't Have You" (sung by Yvonne Elliman), "Jive Talkin", & "You Should Be Dancing" CHANGED THE WORLD!! ....ALL of them hit #1, and the Bee Gees were actually replacing THEMSELVES at #1! - ....BUT, other People were on the Soundtrack, too; Kool & The Gang had thier comeback hit ("Open Sesame"), KC & The Sunshine Band were supposed to give "Shake Your Booty", but gave "Boogie Shoes" instead, "A 5th Of Beethoven" already was a #1 Pop Hit, and "Disco Inferno (The Trammps) hit #1 Disco / #11 Pop ....the ENTIRE Soundtrack was (almost) ALL #1 hits! - ...BUT.......................One Person was left out in the cold........ *BOZ SCAGGS* was the FIRST Person they wanted on the Soundtrack the most, (and the main Person), but Boz's Manager wouldn't allow him (or his Songs) on the Soundtrack, thinking it would 'overexpos-e' Boz.........Boz immediately FIRED him, after the Soundtrack stayed at #1 for 27(!) weeks........ ...Empress, this Soundtrack is an *INSTITUTION* ........periodT..............

If you ever do watch "Saturday Night Fever", yes the main plot is about dancing. But it also has a darker story line to it, which you'll see if you view the movie. I was a little too young {10 years old} to go see "SNF" when it came out in the theaters, as it was rated R. And definitely not for children's eyes. However, I do remember the fantastic soundtrack. This music was all over the radio...

I mean, you just did Bowie's Golden Years, and I see a comparison here, which is great 70s artists who take two or three genres / trends / traditions and blends them together. To me, this is the genius of the 70s. New sounds emerging out of the integration of so many different traditions that were going strong. In this case you have: (1) Dance Hall (2) R&B and (3) Pop all sandwiched into one delicious sound with jazzy horns to boot. The boys were recording this song in criteria studios while stevie wonder was recording songs in the key of life next door. Think about that!

I 1st heard the song in the Saturday Night Fever movie when I was a *little* kid. And I got the double-album soundtrack for Christmas that year (which I still have). And honestly I just rewatched the movie a few months ago and I have no idea wtf my parents were thinking letting me watch that movie that young. It is dark & violent in parts that definitely make it 100% not a kid friendly movie. But then again I'm GenX & our parents weren't exactly overly concerned w/ our physical/mental/emotional wellbeing. I probably didn't understand what was happening in a lot of those more adult scenes at that age anyway--but holy crap that was some questionable parenting, looking back on it.
