I listen to the Bee Gees as much now as I did when I was 12yo--best year of my life; I wrote to RSO Records/Robert Stigwood that year about my deep love of their music, and he sent me dozens of old-fashioned albums, a hand-written note, and 8 complimentary tickets to an upcoming Bee Gees concert in my state in return. Me & my friends had the time of our lives at that concert in '79--and it was so cool to be paged out of class at that age for a call from a "Mr. Stigwood in New York." He actually called my home phone number while I was in school, and my mom gave him the school's phone number. He was/is a class act & a kind gentleman; and my love for the Bee Gees has never waned over the years. I was wactually in the hospital when I saw on the news that Maurice had died, and kept wishing it was all just a bad dream. I miss Maurice & Robin terribly, they surely passed away far too young. I still imagine hearing the 3 of them sing together today, how brilliant that would be! The Bee Gees remain my all-time fave band, they are a legendary group for all-time--and the memories their music evokes are priceless. I love their older music equally as much as the disco era--it is all timeless. God Bless you, Sir Barry & may you rest in peace together Maurice, Robin & Andy--still harmonizing together in the Heavens above and bringing immense joy to our lives for decades to come

The song is based on a mining disaster in Aberfan, Wales, in which a huge slag heap fell down on the little village and buried a school. 116 children were killed, and 20 or so adults. The slag heaps were illegal in the first place but when the families sued the coal company, big surprise, the company was acquitted. The book about the tragedy is heartbreaking, as is this song.

@Adam, I'm watching the hbo doc now and keep pausing it to come to KZread to look up their songs. The amount of their early stuff before the disco period is awesome. They must have rivaled The Beatles at the time.

I love all of their songs - pre and post-disco era. I am relatively young and so my first real introduction to the Bee Gees was through Barbra Streisand and that epic Guilty Album. from then I was all in - hook, line and sinker. I play the Bee Gees greatest CD in my car almost every single day. Also, let's not forget they are listed at the most prolific songwriters in history... they could not have made it big staying in Europe. The crossover was definitely which changed their music and careers forever.

Without a doubt the Bee Gees have got to be the most successful musical group on the planet. The brothers Gibb have a long history of singing. They started very young and sang pop songs then to barque style music and to dominating the disco genre is amazing., Their harmonies and the quality of their vocals are indelible.
