Becoming The Tree God Intends Us To Be | Jeremiah 17 | Biblical Context Explained

God often uses images from nature in His Word to communicate with us to make it easier for us to understand. In Jeremiah 17, God uses two kinds of trees to show us what our relationship with Him can be like. One tree stands alone and does not receive any benefits of living in a community. The other tree bears fruit and withstands any harsh conditions that may occur. It’s a picture of the two choices we have to make: trust in the Lord and become someone who flourishes, or abandon what He says and experience the consequences. The choice is ours.

Isn’t an Acacia tree used in building the tabernacle? The covenant box? Maybe the crown of thorns put on Yeshua since the covering over the box was made of Acacia. 🌳 💦

He mentioned trees that would be found in the Judean desert. If the first tree is an acacia tree, what tree would the 2nd be?

Hello Manny, I am always a little hesitant to answer the question only because my choice should not imply that I am favoring one translation over another. I spent more than 15 years teaching Greek and Hebrew to university students, so I can tell you that no translation is perfect. All have their advantages and disadvantages. And all are tools through which the Holy Spirit changes hearts and lives. With that lengthy disclaimer in place, I can tell you that I typically use the NIV translation.
