Becoming Staccato: The Transformation From STI

Staccato's mission is to proudly serve those who protect and embody American freedoms. Join us, as we sit down with Staccato CEO, Nathan Horvath, to hear the story of how a niche competition gun company known as STI transformed into Staccato-the makers of the 2011®-the Best Shooting Pistols in the World.

    I loved STI. I still have a few of their pistols. They had incredible customer service during their growth phase. I think their downfall was to grow too big by introducing too many models and not having the time to prove them out before selling them. I don't know if Dave Skinner was responsible for the downfall but was likely involved.

    All they do? Ordered a pistol Jan of 2017, not a word about it since. Ive sent emails, made calls and just kept getting brushed off, but email ads for the mags kept on showing up..... I own two STI frames. One is a widebody I spec'ed out and had a local smith build, the other a factory gun. The locally made gun runs like a top. The factory gun didnt make a whole box of ammo before it had to be sent back. At the time I was career LE as well. So, yeah. Im not risking a multi-thousand dollar purchase on a re-brand.

    @@rimfirejunkie7427 I can’t help but call b.s. on this. You mean to tell me, you’ve had a pistol on order for 7 years, and have not received it? I’ve ordered 4 pistols from Staccato over the past 3 years. The longest wait I’ve encountered was 76 days start to finish. I ordered an XC on the 5th of January this month using their expeditor program and received it on the 21st. 16 days from order until the time I picked it up with my FFL. What did you order and what is their response? Did you actually pay for something? I’m scratching my head this comment.

    @@wrxified Their rep came into my shop and I filled out a dealer-employee ( stocking dealer discount ) for a 5" gun. Wiley tapped away on his laptop, said it was submitted with my CC info. Weeks, months passed, and no response. I tried calling, no one would give me any kind of answer. I emailed. Nothing. Until one day, I started getting advertisements for magazines that fit to the gun they never sent. This was status quo as, I, a dealer, made multiple calls to STI over customer guns and got no answer, or was transferred to someone else in a perpetual loop. Thankfully STI never charged my cc, so I took that money and bought some TRPs and have never been happier. If they didnt want to sell a gun to me, they should have emailed or called. Instead, of keeping a potential future customer, they created a festering sore spot on someone who does hold a grudge and does expect business to be done with some form of ethics. Treat me well and I am a customer for life ( LaRue, Dillon, Springfield and many others ). Treat me poorly or act all elitist ( STI, Nighthawk ) and I will make you famous, for all the wrong reasons.

The return letter said 'after repair we fired 250 rounds without issue.' Golly Gee, Beaver, let's just run its guts out before we send it back. I was so disenchanted with the pistol and overall STI experience I just tossed the Lawman into the safe, where it sits today, untouched.

    @@rory9537 It is not just a problem of conflict with the Laws, it is that they did not directly want to provide the product, specifically a 9x19 barrel "with front sight" on a plateau, for an STI Apeiro. And that is solely the company's fault. They directly decided to abandon and stop providing service to "all" STI brand products, with the justification that "we no longer make products for competition."

  • @rory9537

    @rory9537

    @miscochesdeslot Their position is totally fair, it's not "abandoning you" at all. You can't expect Staccato to keep spare island barrels around for a long discontinued model forever. Especially for things like island barrels, which have to be custom fitted and they might sell one a year, maybe even less. Your expectations are ridiculous. All 2011 shooters of any competition brand, custom or otherwise, should expect at some point a part will break that you can't just buy a drop in replacement for, and have a plan for getting a fitted replacement. Sounds like you failed to account for that.
