lovely edit. Let us stand on the shoulder of the giants; our previous ancestors, and further progress humanity. Also, do more of these Stoic edits, there’s not enough of them.

i love how on the outside, stoicism looks like something that would ruin your mental health, but after 3 weeks, you'd be calm in a situation where everyone is screaming their lungs out

currently reading letters from a stoic by Seneca. The English are pretty hard to understand but Holy shit the wisdom and teachings is just different I relate to it pretty much. It's just indescribable
Unfathomably based
1:24 I wonder what kind of school he attended. In Italy it's almost impossible to end hight school without knowing who Marcus Aurelius was. He is mentioned in history, latin or philosophy lessons

True we have become fragile and brittle.. Also, when you have no one to talk to.. there is still God. The stoics were correct, in every way. Do not know if this guy is a stoic, but I found these two quotes from him that echoes the stoics “It is amazing how often people who cannot control their own emotions always want to control other people’s behaviors.” and “Worrying about things you cannot control is folly. Focus only on those few things you have any control over, and your life becomes much simpler.” -Jeffrey Fry

“Stoicism and it’s followers dealt with the feeling of insignificance against the world’s natural laws and strength by being apathetic to it. We must aknowledge that the natural world is often a hard enemy for the Individual to deal with, but that it is still worth trying to defend oneself against it unlike the Stoics who let their fate be dictated by this natural order.” - Max Stirner

They never become dictated to it. They never dread on death. They encourage one to reach their best potential and that means what humans could plausibly and possibly reach, whether to defeat death(immortality) or at least become the best physically, mentally, and spiritually. There are some stoics who have different beliefs like Christian stoics, or other religious stoics. Stoicism is not some time of like a religion in the first place. Its a way to living practically. Though it is possible to think that none of them believed that immortality can be achieved in the future(who knows), this doesnt negate the other good teachings of Stoicism nor does it show to be dictated. I dont think that stoics were apathetic to it because focusing on what they can control is better and it reaches to their best potential of humans. The stoics enjoy and cherish life. They are not some emotionless people who seek death. If they do seek death, they contradict their teachings. Now, answer this question to reflect on yourself. Do you now disregard a teaching of stoicism such as not worrying or not dreading on actions that cant be controlled because you find a mistake on some teachings on which you assume to be so?
What that guy said really doesn't make any sense, Marcus Aurelius taught us not to teach people about stoicism until we have fully adapted to and mastered that type of lifestyle- he is saying he wanted to tell people about it after only just reading Meditations, in which he wouldn't have mastered stoicism by then

@@meeshiomesum it's okay to fall, it's okay to feel weak, however, it's not okay to stay this way. Rise up. You've leveled mountains before and you'll level some more. The world shakes when a man finds motivation. Remember the ones you love, the ones you care about. Think of yourself from the past and yourself in the future. You'll make it, dammit! I 100% believe that you freaking will. If men before our time survived on sheer fucking will alone, I guarantee that you will too. It's been done. It's the indomitable human spirit. Just the fact that you reached out for help alone, speaks miles about you. That means you know where to look, you haven't given up and you never will. Next morning, when you're drinking your beverage of choice, say to yourself "It's great being alive, it's great being myself, it's great being human!". If all of our life's challenges were stripped from us, it would be miserable. Consider what you're going through right now a challenge thrown by the all-mighty himself. Accept and beat it, no matter how hard it is, then go outside, look at the sky and scream "Is that all you've got?!" It may take blood, sweat and tears but God damn it! You can do it man, I believe you.

Gentlemen, I'm suffering for divorce. I made mistakes with her, lack of responsibility. I didn't do what a man should do for the good of the relationship for a long time. And she left me. I feel like shit, failure. but I'm on my journey to improve myself, financially, maturity and etcetera. the pain in heart and mind hurts everyday, missing her, can't stop thinking about our moments... I have no friends worth having, so I prefer not having. I hope everything gets better and me and her could be together again and marry. In the name of Jesus.

can anyone tell me what's stoicism? I googled it and it told me its "making oneself unable to feel emotion so that one shouldn't feel sad". that just sounds stupid, bad, primitive and forced. but seeing how many people like this ideology. I think the google was wrong. so please tell me what stoicism REALLY is?
@why53414

The definition is slightly different from other's pov. I believe people think it means not to show much emotions rather than being unable to feel any.
@tenet748

@@why53414 that's not it, either. As taken from Wikipedia, "Stoicism teaches the development of self-control and fortitude as a means of overcoming destructive emotions; the philosophy holds that becoming a clear and unbiased thinker allows one to understand the universal reason". There is a video by youtuber "Aperture" that covers this.
