Dropping your main because you struggle with specific matchups isn't a good solution. Learn your opponent's character instead, because it's going to give you insight on what that character's weak against. Kazuya's able to exploit Cloud's weaknesses, and that's how you discovered Cloud has a bad recovery. However, you would've been able to beat Cloud using Sora if you played or studied Cloud. I'm not saying you have to main characters you don't enjoy, but studying Cloud a bit would've helped.

That's a fair point. I was stubborn when playing Sora in the sense that he's my first main and I didn't want to play anyone else (even in training). But if I "dropped him" to main Cloud for a week, I would've been more prepared going into my next matches.

one thing that also helps is the transferable skills between characters. Each character has a different set of skills that their playstyle values more than others, and so getting to practice some of those can transfer back to your main regardless of if its a similar or different playstyle. For example my first main that really stuck when getting into this game was Lucas, and then later on I switched to ZSS. One thing that I hadn't really practiced or understood the value of was working with Landing/falling aerials, as Lucas doesn't really get as much off of landing aerials as other characters. ZSS does benefit from landing aerials though, especially landing Nair, and my lack of understanding for how important they were was an early wall to my improvement with the character. I would later pick up Chrom for a bit on a whim, a character where landing aerials are essential and the effects of doing it are more obvious, and in practicing that character I would see first hand how important and helpful it was. This is kind of just my big example, but practicing other characters and picking up skills important to those characters can definitely help with your understanding of how those things apply to your main.

I loved this! I especially loved the Cloud segment. That lil storyline was so good and so relatable, the Mario 64 portions were a great touch, and of course, all your points were well thought out and fleshed out and now I wanna play Smash with a new character 🤣 🔥 CONTENT AS ALWAYS

I always Mained sora, so after I bought sepiroth I switched and I’m just such a better sepiroth then a sora, I took your tips and they helped me be a better smash bros player.
