Since AAPC won't allow scrap paper for the remote testing but allows their own digital notepad, would you be able to create a video showing examples of how to go through a few cases digitally? i followed along with a couple of your lets code videos and was able to put the code together by pausing the video before you gave the answer. would i really need the background in medical terminology, anatomy, and pathophysiology courses required by the aapc for becoming either a certified coder or biller? the goal is to start my own medical business, starting with this as the base for my company, then growing into other areas. they require those 3 courses for both of their certifications. i should also say that i went to school for engineering.

    I find it hard to choose between the Preppy and my community college… I feel like the community college option is the better option for me since they hammer down anatomy and physiology and I have the option of using FAFSA and scholarships for financial aid, vs I don’t believe I can do the same things for other ways of getting certified… plus since the degree is technically under health information technology, maybe I could fall back on something else if I can’t really find a job (although I did see a job opening for a remote position with only 6 months experience at the local university 😭 how I wish I was already certified)

I’d like to stick with AAPC to save on membership $ but I’m hearing people choose the CCS credential for inpatient.

    Hi Victoria, I think I put myself on the accelerated Preppy plan, just because I started off kind of slow the first 3 months lol. I will finish no later than the end of Nov. Just started diving in deep about 3 weeks ago. Just finished an overview on Coding Neoplasms. By the way, I did reach out to Preppy Support about books. They are shipping me the ICD-10-CM and CPT as physical textbooks. The customer support is fantastic by the way. I received a reply the same day (on a Saturday). The course itself is structured very well. The Buck's textbook is packed with info. I would strongly recommend this Preppy course for anyone seriously considering a career in Medical Billing and Coding.

    Preppy offers eBooks, which is where the industry is moving towards. I actually just did an interview with the VP of Products and Services at the AAPC and she spoke about how they're piloting the eBooks for exams and it seems we're moving in that direction -- just not there quite yet. Preppy does offer you the option to purchase the paper books for examination purposes since we're still transitioning over the adoption of digital tools in the industry. If you have any further questions or concerns, reach out to help@preppy.org, they have an amazing customer service team that can help you out.

    Would CCS work vs CPC? The company I currently work for ask for RHIA, RHIT, or Certified cding specialist to apply for HIM coder III

  • @ContempoCoding

    @ContempoCoding

    10 ай бұрын

    If your company specifically mentions RHIA, RHIT, or CCS for the HIM Coder III position, then obtaining the CCS would definitely align with their requirements. While the CPC is a fantastic credential, particularly for outpatient and professional fee coding, the CCS may be more fitting for positions that delve deeper into hospital-based coding. It's always a good idea to align your certification path with your career goals and the preferences of potential employers. Best of luck on your coding journey!

    Your experience and familiarity is going to help you so much. The absolute biggest help for me passing the CPC and CDEO was investing time/money into the AAPC practice exams (and/or hers) as she recommends in the video. The format of those is so close to the actual tests, that you figure out how to actually take the test, and it helps with your confidence also. Take them a couple times. You've got this!

    Congrats on passing the CPC exam! When it comes to the CRC vs. the CPC, the perception of difficulty can be subjective. However, many find the CRC exam to be somewhat easier since it specifically focuses on ICD-10-CM. The CPC, as you know, covers a broader range of topics. But as always, it's essential to prepare thoroughly for any certification exam. Best of luck with your CRC journey!

    The AAPC study guide is specifically designed to help you prepare for the CPC exam. It's an excellent resource for exam prep, focusing on the key concepts and strategies you'll need to tackle the exam effectively. However, it's important to note that the study guide is not intended to teach medical coding from scratch. It's more of a tool to refine and test your knowledge. If you're already familiar with the basics of medical coding, the study guide can be a fantastic way to get exam-ready. But if you're starting from the beginning, you might want to first get a solid foundation in medical coding through coursework or other comprehensive learning resources before diving into the study guide.
