Bebop Scales- How to Practice

Музыка

This is my first video in a new series of Jazz Educational Content. I wanted to make a clear and concise resource for explaining different jazz improvisational techniques, what they are, and how we can practice them.
You can find all of the materials from the video, and more, for sale on my website here on my website here:

Hi Aaron, new sub here. There was a lot of meat in this video, but you kept it short and didn't blow my mind out of the water! I'm looking forward to learning more from you. Thanks for taking the time to teach this old dog some new licks.

You've got a very good sound quality young man, I guess I'm never gonna understsnd the theory about chords, seems everytime some one tries to explain in terms of theory, like you just did, my mind shuts down, I can read music well, I guess I'll just depend on that and careful listening in order to learn jazz. I may as well try to write computer code than try to understand theory, it's sooooo frustrating,

Thank you for the compliment, if there is anything specific that you’d like help with I’d be happy to try to explain. I’d like to make my material as understandable to as many people as I can, so I’d love to know what is confusing, since I’m sure many people share you feeling.

Well,... the best way I can put it is,.... people are different and have various ways of learning, for example, I drew a picture of a woman's face simply because I thought she was pretty, yet a trained artist friend of mine broke my picture down to me and explained all the technical things I did to create the image, things I never once thought about. Similarly, I create tunes, that I hope sound good simply because it sounds nice to me, then trained musicians have examined my music and told me all the technical things I did in building that tune, again, things I had no idea I did. Its cool that there are people who possess the ability to separate, examine and clearly explain the inner workings of a thing, such as a musical composition, or other artistic endeavors, (im not one of them) to me, my mind isnt that deep, It seems everything has a name for it, and thats adds to my frustration with music theory, theory is someones idea of expressing what the music is made of, and indeed it can be helpful to know whats going on, sometimes,.. up to this point i just cant wrap my head around it, its too much,....so I'll just make music and not worry about naming the steps that got me there😄

apparently with jazz the simplest things require you to learn a million scales and modes, it's incredible how anyone even can pick it up, it'd be a full time job.@@jdjones7065

Ah, the key signature is cropped from the image. With a key signature of Bb major (2flats) it should make more sense. I'll try to keep that in mind for future videos!

Pretty boring answer, just a gold plated bach 3C, been playing the same equipment since high school! Will likely do a trumpet equipment video in the future since it seems like a question I've been getting pretty frequently. Thanks for asking!
