The weather has been hot, and temperatures are high! Of course, when air-conditioning is on, you'll get to hear the bus a little differently. As last time I caught #407 on the EPX (see that video here: • ⁴ᴷ⁶⁰ Best Diesel Type!... , this time I caught the "almost-the-same" bus but 5 foot shorter, #522 on the EPX!
According to a SamTrans operator friend of mine, unfortunately one of their XE40 caught on fire in North Base, causing all Battery Electric Buses to be grounded until further notice. With this sudden change, EPX is forced to be using Diesel and Hybrid buses for all trips throughout the service day, which does not match how they promoted before as the Electric Powered Express. Being that said, they will aim to be using the 500 series buses based on ridership needs, but since there are not enough of them available, many hybrid 700 series buses and some diesel 600 series buses can be seen.
