Practice. He did in fact break during the rehearsal for this, and then when the real show came on, was able to act normally, allowing Heidi’s breaks to be spotlighted naturally!

I started watching SNL when it first started and was an avid fan. After the last exodus of talent (Wiig, McKinnon, etc.) the show went downhill. This sketch with Ryan Gossling and Mikey Day was classic comedy. Heidi Gardner's breaking character was the icing on the cake. The only reason that I watched it was because of Gossling being the host. He did not disappoint. His comedic timing and demeanor were spot on. I have watched this clip a handful of times, and it still evokes a laugh.
