I think it's because Beavis has become much more self aware in these newer episodes. Notice he tends to hesitate to do and call out Butt-head's plans a lot more now. With that in mind, hanging out with a jackass like Butt-head will do that to you lol

I love the show being back, but somehow I don’t like the excessive amount of abuse Butthead gives Beavis. In the 90s was always by chance, now’s a pattern. Like the Roadrunner against the Coyote or to a lesser extent Tom & Jerry, you start hating the always predictable outcome.
