Taking care of one's physical appearance with a healthy mindset is perfectly natural. However, I feel that as a society we are consumed with physical appearance and have placed it on a pedestal above all other things. There is a saturation of media attention, in an unhealthy way, to one's physical appearance, but so little attention is given to improving one's 'self'. And this is evident in society - for example, we scream at each other rather than engage in effective discord, politely debating different viewpiints. We (society) invest so much time to the outer and very little to the inner. The physical appearance of a person is the first thing that we see, but it only represents a minuscule fraction of who that person is. The true beauty (or lack thereof) of a person is hidden, it can't be immediately seen. To discover it, one needs to spend time with a person. It is a person's essence, a person's soul, their humanity - their humility, wisdom, grace, compassion, kindness, humour, intellect, skills, strengths, weaknesses, resilience, life experience, demureness, self-respect, self-awareness, selflessness and much more. I see a society that invests a great deal on what represents a fraction of our being at the expense of investing on improving the internal person (where the majority of one's beauty is found). My thoughts.

Powder brows are very subtile, for me it lasted less than a year. I think your brows are beautiful and full, but maybe what you can look into is the form, the tattoo can lift the face a bit, for a more youthful or fresh appearance and...the best is less daily maintenance :)

Hi, Jennifer! Since you mentioned talking to your girls about their eyebrows, I’m just wondering how you talk to them about appearance and beauty? I have three daughters and I’m always trying to tread the fine line between teaching them about grooming and self-maintenance vs. vanity. I’m 38 and I feel like a lot of attention was paid to my appearance in my youth (both positive and negative). I’d love to see a video from you on this topic. Thanks!

I have a teen daughter and I just emphasize that clean skin, hair and nails are the most important parts of beauty. Anything temporary is worth trying (crazy eyeshadow, weird clothes) to help you find your true style. Youth should be a time for (safe) experimentation and trying things and making style mistakes. It should your own enjoyment, not to please others.

40 and no gray hair! I can’t imagine. I started graying at 23. After 20 years of hair dye, I am growing out the gray. It’s a terribly unattractive process, so quarantine has been great for something. My advice is don’t start dyeing gray hair. It is such an incredible pain. And also very damaging to your hair.

I was lucky that my hair grayed so gradually that I swear I looked in the mirror one day and thought: gee, I’m gray! I get compliments on my hair all the time. Plus, it’s more interesting now than the ashy brown color it was. I look good in more colors now than before too. Sometimes I get lowlights to make it a little more interesting and less harsh looking.

I'm in my 60's and I have seen women who get the "permanent" eyebrow treatment. When they are younger it works but as you age everything has to be muted and toned down so you don't look garish. I would worry that as you aged the dark brows might become too harsh and I'm not sure you could reverse the process.

Samantha is right. They fade and you have to have them touched up. Also, the person doing your microblading (that is, tattooing you...kind of) can mix you up a custom color that will be flattering. It can be garish if not done correctly, but a good person can make them look very natural. Source: have them done regularly!!

Thanks, Jennifer, for the transparency. Love your channel! And I'm sure your hair looks just as lovely curly as it does straightened. I used to blow out my moderately curly hair a dozen times a year. Now that I've hit 50, I've realized the damaging dryness it causes, and I had to stop. Your hair does become dryer with age, so keeping it healthy is more challenging. Funny how we forget how much people spend to get the curls we naturally have! I love the "curly girl" approach too... has been working for me for 15 years! What am I saying? Enjoy it while it lasts!

I got my eyebrows microbladed 2 years ago. It was the best decision I have made. While I was pregnant with my 3rd child I noticed my brows were sparser than usual (I am guilty of over plucking and waxing in my 20s and 30s). I like you did my research for 2 years, found someone I trusted and took the plunge. It has literally changed my life. Sounds so vain and trivial but your eyebrows really do change your whole face. I love it! It is maintenance and get be pricey but I couldn’t recommend it enough!

I just turned 60 and still dye my hair. I noticed my first gray hair at 24 and soon started highlighting it. I later switched to dye and don’t want to stop dyeing it because I look better and the dye coats my fine hair and gives it more body.

Microblading is absolutely nowhere near tatoo in terms of depth of penetration in skin. Microblading is very very superficial on the top layer of skin and that's exactly the reason why it last for a very short period of time and fades so quickly (2 to maximum 3 month). However you should consider the fact that the cuts created on the skin cause hair follicles in those areas sort of die and never grow back hair again. Applying castor oil with a cue tip to your eyebrows on a regular and constant basis encourages hair growth a lot plus there are really good eyebrow growth serums now available on the market that do wonders.

I have to share that after I went through menopause I no longer have leg hair!! So maybe if you don’t mind waiting, you may not need the laser leg hair treatment. Here's one Jennifer would never dream of speaking of eyebrows: I am a light haired strawberry blonde, and my eyebrows are almost white. So... I dye them light brown! Saves so much time filling them in in the morning! Changed my life, 10/10 would recommend to anyone else who has this problem! I use a little light brown brow and eyelash kit from Amazon. Results fade naturally and last about 5-6 weeks before you have to redo it. Thanks for sharing Jennifer!

You are so right to research the right person to do it for you, and know you will still have to do regular tweezing "maintenance" on them, but the shape and full look they give my brows is fantastic. Thanks for sharing your other beauty treatments, esp. the Paula's Choice mask. I've been a loyal customer of her products for years, never tried that one!

Hi Jennifer! I had microblading and like you I don't rush into anything without careful consideration and research. I was afraid until a friend (with brows I was obsessed with) gave me the name of her aesthetician who created them. I'm beyond thrilled with my decision and even regret agonizing over it. It's important to understand that microblading isn't permanent like a tattoo. It will fade and results last between 1-2 years. Also, it's two separate appointments and upon the second visit the shade or shaped can be corrected according to preference. It's worth the cost to wake up with perfect brows! P.S. Unrelated but had to mention that since adopting a more minimalist lifestyle which I share on my channel, I decluttered many items and among them were boxes of books I never intended to read again. A few books survived the cut, one of which is Madame Chic. I found that little treasure at a thrift shop and I've kept it because do enjoy reading it over again since I love your writing style and voice. xo Enza

Massage is my "secret" beauty treatment. When my body and face feel good they look good. I've tried the Brazilian blowout with mixed results. It did help with frizz, but was probably not as noticeable because I still wore my hair curly. I think it tends to be most helpful for those who straighten their hair. I can get the same results with products instead of a treatment.

I just started watching your channel & when I saw your home vlog I KNEW you lived in SoCal just from the pink ceramic tile on the vanity! It’s the exact one my home in Long Beach had! So pretty & vintage looking💖 Your channel is lovely and so are you. I’ve enjoyed everything thus far. I was thinking of doing the Brazilian so it may be time. So I’ve had my brows done because I could never get my brows to grow back evenly, etc. I was a makeup artist for years in the 90’s until about 2012. Of course I tweezed them into oblivion 🙀. I totally agree that you must at least first give it a good 6 months to a year to see what results you can achieve naturally. Otherwise, simply do your homework and when you find someone, go through their portfolio (IG) and choose the looks you like the most. Also have someone photograph you with your brows done in a way you like them. Lastly, I personally prefer the look of very NATURAL powder brows, because no matter what, the tattooing does not look fully like hair, and the powder brows not only last longer, but simply look like you have done a bit of finishing to your brows. I also believe you should have them done a bit thinner and less dramatic than you think you want, because you can always add a bit more when you want more drama, say in the evening. No matter what, depending upon the amount of sun you get, which seems very little and that is fantastic, you will need touch ups about once a year. I went nearly two years and didn’t retouch mine, but I am not trying to maintain a “perfect” look. I simply don’t want to look weird with my very uneven natural brows. I hope that can help🙏

I paid for in office laser hair removal about 8 years ago (my hairline on my scalp came down very low on the back of my neck) and I did my underarms too. They applied a numbing gel first so I had no pain but it was very expensive. In December I hesitantly purchased the Kenzzi tool on the recommendations of Shea Whitney. I’ve been very happy with the results. It is very time consuming because they recommend you go over each area 3 times on each treatment. (Now I understand why in office treatments are so expensive.) But it is effective and about the same cost as the unit you linked.

I look forward to hearing your review of the device you found to see if it might be better. I have often considered the Brazilian Blow Out as I have really "wild" hair and I think this just might be the incentive I need to go for it! Thank you also for the recommendation of the exfoliant peel. I'm actually looking into investing in some Paula's Choice products so I will made sure to add this peel to my list. And finally, brows...such a big topic! I struggle so much with mine as well and have only now come to embrace fullness over threading and plucking. I've used quarantine times to embrace my "curls" (more like frizzy mess of hair) after years of expensive keratin treatments and weekly blow-outs in a salon.I bought the curling iron Shay W. recommended and tried curling my hair following her method. I never would have thought of curling my curly hair, but it works really well! Something for you curly girls out there to try. I'm never going to go back. Also, started coloring my hair at home. Saving me SOOO much money and time. Jennifer, I have the exact same color hair as you. When you get there, Madison Reed has our perfect color and it is oh so affordable. Also, Jennifer, do you use Tretinoin? xo

Oh, I think you would look wonderful with big, frizzy hair. I´m not making a joke. I have the same kind of hair, and I hated it - especially as a teenager. Now I am 47 years old, and I love the volume my wild and curly hair has. It´s very long, but I really like the contrast it makes to the more classic and (sometimes) classy clothes I´m wearing. If I wore yogapants and a t-shirt all the times, I don´t think it would work Then it would be too messy :-D But because I wear nice quality items and also often good jewelry, it just gives me the contrast, that I personally like. I like that both the wild part of me and the classy part of me gets expressed through my style. I want to let them both live. Just my opinion - wishing you all a great day :-D

Jennifer, this video was hilarious. Haring you talk about the "hair removal" was just so funny. But trust me, I get it. I've had a Dominican or Jaimacan Blowout once...I thought the hai dresser was going to pull my hair out by the roots! But it was bone straight, soft, and just nice but it is high maintenance. Expensive and nice but just once. I got it done in Atlanta with my daughter-in-law. It was supposed to be a bonding experience during the week of the wedding. I should work more at a skin care routine. I"m definitely at the age where I need to treat it better, particularly with gardening season on the horizon. I'm open to trying the Paula's choice products. Hahaha! I knew it was going to be mircroablading. I'm getting my eyebrows done tomorrow...just a wax but I am I am thinking long and hard about mircoblading. I had amazing brows. Now...they don't grow back like they used to and they've grown in in places where the eyebrows shouldn't be. So now they are in desperate need of attention...I haven't had them done in almost two years, trying to grow them back out. I've not started coloring my hair...I've earned the gray but the eyebrows. Need lots of work! They say your eyebrows are sisters not twins. Sometimes I don't even think mine are in the same family. This was a fun video. I loved it.

It is costly and the first time very very painful. Sat in my car and cried afterwards. But I can say that it did remove 80%. I was shaving 2 times a day before, and now I have 1 area that I shave occassionally. I have not had a treatment since pandemic. FYI it only works on dark hairs, sorry fair haired ladies. So it also doesn't remove grey or white hair. I'm 60 and I wish I had known about this 30 years ago.
