+Rin H Your mom has probably heard of it! This "hack" has been around for... God, probably almost as long as mayonnaise has been. My grandmother (in her 70's) taught me about this! It's not a waste because it's not being thrown away, it's helping condition your hair and help it be healthy. :) It's just being used for a different purpose opposed to being wasted.

+S Hartman My mom used Mayo when I had lice. That was my first thought when I saw this video, had flashbacks, and then I cringed at the thought. I had to leave it in overnight though, of course, so maybe just keeping it in for 20 minutes with the hot towel isn't as bad as overnight. All I remember is the awful smell.. ugh.

I remember having to sleep with a shower cap on being able to squish my hair when I was eight. Stupid lice. We had used a lot of "treatments" before that, a lot of them involving damaging chemicals. The mayo and blow drying the shafts of my hair everyday (to kill the eggs) proved the most effective and the least damaging. It did deter me from mayos though and to this day I won't eat the stuff.

Mayo works! Makes your hair super soft and shiny and puts tons of protein in your hair to strengthen. Wrap in plastic bags or saran wrap so it doesn't dry out (and the heat helps it absorb), leave it in for about 2 hours (my bestie and I just watch a movie lol). But if the smell of mayo grosses you out then this will not be worth it you! Make sure you wrap a towel or paper towels around your neck so that the mayo doesn't drip down your back.

Hi Ellko. Thanks for this trial and review. I ended up trying this out yesterday, but added a base-coat of warmed coconut oil to my hair and scalp (rubbed with my palms, *not* microwaved) before adding the mayo. That made all the difference when it came to distributing the mayo through my hair. I left it in for about an hour and a half, with a plastic bag and nothing bu my head heat. Washed with luke-warm water and shampoo, small drop of conditioner after. My hair is naturally wavy/curly, so I was curious to see what the effect would be. For the first time, I was able to run a brush through my hair post-shower without a single snag. My hair was so smooth and detangled, that I questioned whether I had actually washed the mask out! After letting it air dry, my hair looks fuller, shiner, and has a nice softness to it. I'm really pleased with the result!

BONUS TIP: In my experience, this is also perfect for getting lice out of thick curly hair. Just leave on overnight in a shower cap. Use a standard lice comb before showering the rest out.

I love love love Mayo protein treatments for my hair! The first time I tried it I just used Mayo (didn't pre-shampoo or anything). I used it as a mask, left it in a bun for 20 minutes and the washed my hair like i normally do. My hair was super shiny, my curls were more defined than they had ever been (i have 3a-3b curls) and some of the parts of my hair that had suffered heat damage were also coming back to life. Highly recommended if you are trying to recover from heat damage!

If you use saran wrap instead of a plastic bag, you won't need a warm towel because the saran wrap naturally traps the heat from your scalp. I use this method with mayo and olive oil, and it works great. It's super easy, too.

So I tried it based on my Aunt's recommendation and was just looking to see how it should be done. This is the best thing I have ever tried. Normally when I wash my hair it's super puffy and twice as thick as normal probably because of frizziness however that's not the case this time. Also my Aunt told me to use a hair dryer for thirty minutes on my hair. So maybe try that? Also whatever you do don't use mint scented shampoo for washing it out. Mint and Mayo do NOT mix. My hair kind smelled bad for a bit. Much more tolerable now that it's dry.

I just did this mask. Washed it out w/ a bit of kiwi clarifying vo5 shampoo. Let some purple shampoo sit in there for about 3 mins. Conditioned it w/ mint and tea tree oil conditioner. Idk, it smells perfumey. A slight hint of kiwi, I guess. It def doesn't smell like the purple shampoo.

you should definitely do a hack on what makes hair grow faster. They have some weird ones out there and on pintrest. it will probably have to be done over a month and you do a little clip each day to document and tell us the results. I always want to try one but don't want to waste time if it won't work. love your videos xo

I had to smile: This is a "beauty hack" from my teenager-hood. But we just called it mayo in your hair, not a hack for a more expensive hair masque. Back in the '70's I really don't think we had nearly as many hair products as there are now, so probably no intensive beauty treatments. Mayo worked, so we used it. Only caveat was if your mom bought Hellmann's (yay!) or a store brand (boo). Or, heaven forbid, Miracle Whip. (my life was ruined and the boy in English will hate me.) And if she'd let you use food on your hair (those damned teenagers!) If you wanted to be authentic, after your hair is dry, you'd iron it to within an inch of its life on your mom's fold-away ironing board, with an iron that weighed close to 10 pounds that only had hot and not hot as a setting.

I just use extra virgin olive oil and castor oil and mix it to my mayonnaise, it's fabulous for dry very tight curly hair and gives it a gloss that I wouldn't of believed could ever happen before, add tin foil on head to keep heat locked in and give this 1 hour than conditioner it out then shampoo it out but use a chemical free conditioner and shampoo, I use "sunny isle" make.

Ellie, my grandma used to put homemade mayo in her hair and it was about 80 years ago 😀. I'm 50yo and have been using this since I was a teenaget. The big thing is: make your own mayo because the ones you buy contains sodium and lots of other spices. Mix one egg yolk WITHOUT THE SKIN (the yolk skin is that the one who smells bad) with 2 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil, half tbsp of cider vinegar. That's your mayo!!! Use a blender or a hand mixer. The texture will be liquid but it will work amazingly! To get rid off any residual smell put some drops of cider vinegar in your last rinse water. I'm sure you're gonna love it! 💋💋💋

  • @ahhwe-any7434

Vinegar *. Idk WTH mustard is made out of, other than mustard seeds. I'll just assume there's no mustard in mayo tho. Too lazy to go look. But apparently, there's something in vinegar that's supposed to help balance out things that your hair needs and lacks. And the fat in mayo is actually the good fat - Omega 3. Which also helps w/ the health of hair. I'm pretty excited about using some damn mayo to recover my hair bc it def works. I just hate ppl who push for certain pricey, brandy products and the ppl who get easily influenced by it. Either that, or I just feel bad for the ppl who don't have a dollar tree around. I can find all kinds of diy hair masks in there. And the mayo? The any kind of mayo? Pretty sure it all contains very similiar ingredients. & No, it wasn't some kind low fat kind. I'm glad I stalk comments in yt videos tho. Bc I may have not even questioned if that fat even matters. Anyway, yes, it contains all the necessities there & I didn't grow broke f'n w/ my hair. I could even get eggs for the sole purpose to just dump them in my hair, if I really wanted to. And it'll only cost me a dollar for each product 😋👏. Also, Unrefined or refine c.oil is a myth. Got the refine c.oil there too, & I have pretty much, 0 split ends. Used it before any of my bleach sets.
