The 1984 opening ceremonies of the Los Angeles Summer Olympics was undoubtedly one of the most spectacular, ever. How could it be anything but fantastic, since it was put together by the best producers in Hollywood and national sports programming. I got the chance to be behind the scene with my 16mm camera. This primetime PBS special is a powerful and emotional look at some of the thousands of people who made the event happen.

My dad is actually friends with the guy who flew it, William Suitor. Basically, William's neighbor asked him to pilot the machine, (he created it) and well, he did. My dad used to play soccer with Will that's how he knew him.

And the physics of it makes no sense. You think of an airplane and it has multiple control surfaces (wings, elevator, ailerons, rudder) to keep it under control. This jet pack appears to just have four nozzles. It would be difficult bordering on impossible to even do controlled straight line flight, much less a takeoff, descent, turn and hover to landing as he does here.

This awesome to watch.
Enjoyed this very much, thank you. Here in Kenya back in 1984, the opening ceremony of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games was not televised (at least I don't remember it being televised), though we did get to see several events, via what used to be known as Voice of Kenya (VOK) Television, the only radio and television station in Kenya back in those days. What's the name of the guy running things, the guy in spectacles and wearing the blue coat, what was his full time day job back then, and what became of him? Regards, Michael M. Kamau, Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa, 25th April 2024.

Ok got you. I'd just like to say, this channel is really a service to the modern generation. Why? Because sure anyone can find footage from the 50s-80s from major broadcasts in little clips, but the major difference is with yours, it is long-form, no narration (raw in that sense) and interesting videos that we would shoot today on our cell phones (protests, arguments at universities, etc.) but from that generation. Of course you also do professional multi-camera work, but somehow it is just different in feel to major broadcasts. Through your videos we can really get a feel of what a person or group was going through back then and see how similar and dissimilar these trivial and non-trivial experiences were. Watching your videos gives a "young'n" a shot of experience that could never be felt otherwise (books, newspapers, magazines, radio, etc).
