Beautiful Handmade Box from Pallet Wood
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this episode, I'm building a beautiful oak box using finger joints, also known as box joints, to bring together repurposed pallet wood I've had for awhile now. I also show a technique of transferring lettering to the wood using an iron. Nothing special here, I just printed out a backwards design I made on standard paper using an average everyday inkjet printer. Using heat from the iron, you're able to transfer the ink to the wood. Just be sure to mirror the image.
Thanks for watching!

Brett,.....you just touched a heartstring... My Brother and I haven't had a close relationship over the years. Because of Him having a near death experience, and on his way to partially mending, I have really thought about him and our relationship a lot lately. This Video has inspired me to make something special like this for him! In case you ever wonder if you make a difference in someone's life when you make these videos?.....You Do!...Thanks Buddy...for Sharing this Video! Have A Super Week!.....Gus

Hey there, thank you for the kind words, I'm glad this reached you the way it did. I think we can all be a little closer to our family and I'm glad you're making the effort, we need more people like that. Best of luck with you and your brother as well as the up coming project!

Likewise. I have two younger brothers who have not spoken to me in over a year. The same thought came across my mind.

Same here. Thought about my brother and wish to create a similar gift. The wood shavings as filler was a nice touch btw.

i also had near death last year, hope you and your brother are ok, and also what a great video, i loved it.
How strange to be so deeply touched by a woodworking video. I’m not a softy like this normally but combine a really awful week with such a touching soundtrack, such craftsmanship, the powerful absence of speech and it combines to a wonderfully heartfelt video, thoroughly enjoyed.
I watched it in lunch break, otherwise I generally put the sound volume down for KZread DIY's. The strumming is great, the project, with lot of love and affection, the love of a brother, priceless!
Turned out great! I just wish my brother was still around. He would've loved it.
Nothing Better than accuracy at work
Great tip for installing those hinges. Thank you!
That is both excellent and inspiring! In the 70’s we ‘surfies’ would make picture frames from pallet wood around surf photos/posters. I used to burn off the grain with my fathers port-a-gas blowtorch. Mostly the wood wasn’t straightened nor planed, just cut and burnt. Good to see this method is still alive! Great work.
I had to fight tears thinking about my brother. I got to do this. Thank you for sharing a special moment.
Got a tear in my eye mate, I don't see much of my brother and I miss him a lot, would love to have the skills and confidence to make him something like this as I know he would appreciate it, thanks for sharing your video and the gift you made is beautiful, all the best

Thanks for sharing your story man, and you can definitely make something like this. It's the thought that counts too.
Nicely done! I especially like how you created the shadow line with the bottom, simple and worked perfect.
Almost perfect! What I would not do was burn the wood! I prefer natural color! Congratulations!
One of my most favorite videos. Thank you for doing this.
What I like was the way you positioned the lid on the hinges with CA glue before installing the screws..

Brett, the only thing I might do differently is when you drill the holes, they make those "snappy" brand, self centering hinge drill bit set. I use those and they work real good. Available at Amazon.
Came out very nice, love the look after burning and adding the finish to it.
This box has been made with love and prove the good relationship with you brother. I wish i had such a good relationship with my brother. Well done Brett great job with a lot of sentiments.

How could 66 people give this a thumbs down. Everything about this video is fantastic: the making of the box, who it was for, and the obvious love and thought that went it to the whole project. Well done, mate. 👍🏼

This was amazing. Thank you. Not only was that a very thoughtful gift, but you have given me some ideas for using all the pallet pieces I have in my shop.
Lovely. Especially liked the burning to bring out the grain.
I was just trying to figure out how to line up the hinges on a project of mine and your video comes along . Super Glue ! Who knew ? Great video and a super nice gift for your brother .
Brett just want to thank you for all your wonderful videos and taking the time to share them. Being deaf and unable to hear most of the videos posted yours are awesome. Straight forward and thorough much appreciated. Keep 'em coming.

Brett Withjack I bet he did, the contents looked very alluring! Ha! Ha!
As of this viewing, there are 11 people who clearly, just don't get it. There is absolutely no reason for a thumbs down. Video production and soundtrack are great. The gift you've made your brother, also great. And, your choice of/use of tools which were not from the higher price point, conveying to the viewer that its possible to keep it simple, while still ending up with a wonderful project, also great. If KZread offered a point scale, with a 1 being terrible and a 10 being great, or the reason we viewers choose to watch a video, you Sir would be hovering around a 10 in my opinion. Apparently, I don't get it, or at least those who awarded a thumbs down.

That´s a fine box. Beautiful.
That's a beautifully made box excellent use of recycled wood and burning it added to it's beauty. Well done. Cheers Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
When seeing the final product, I had some doubt about that being made from firewood, but in the building process was pretty clear that was palet wood. Great job!

Has numerous details in this woodwork book *TopFineWoodworking. Com* . The book also displays several designs and descriptions on the materials used for various woodworking processes and also the guidelines on completing various procedures appropriately. In other words, I`m happy using this book, especially in the process of learning about wood working.?
Stunning!!

beautiful box idea
Great work and an inspiring thought of gifting. In the start I thought it was only the box. I was wondering what would you do when you started shaving the wooden plant after the completion. Then came the spice to the gift. Took me with such a surprise. I will take the liberty to consider this video as a gift to me. Thanks a lot. Keep it up Brett.
