I am retired now but as a former CKA (training pilot) for a major airline, a few things stood out in this video. At low altitude, who is guarding the throttles after the Captain takes his hand off at V1? IIRC, the primary reason for the Asiana crash in KSFO was the pilots thought the auto-throttles would always control the airspeed. The problem was, they put the jet in a mode where pitch controlled speed in a descent and the throttles went to idle and stayed there. If somebody's hand was on the throttles along with monitoring their speed, the PF would have realized the A/Ts were not controlling speed. Holding the yoke with two hands is common with novice pilots but it is a bad habit. Pilots flying with two hands also tend to move the yoke more than necessary (over-controlling). At low altitude, one hand should be on the yoke and the other on the throttles. There are times when two hands may be necessary, such as a complete hydraulic failure. The PF never looks outside until near the end of the video. This is also very common with pilots early in their training but it is a very bad habit that needs to be corrected. We all know a flock of geese can bring a jet down so we need to see them early and maneuver to miss them.

@CWK090 All excellent observations - NO ONE had their hand on the throttle after V1. Even as a student pilot I was taught 1 hand on the throttle, the other on the yoke, while taking off or landing. Eyes always looking out the window! My FI was a former B-29 pilot from WW2. He was excellent compared to other mediocer Flight Instructors (FI) at FBOs. Okay, she was pretty; so what? That does not make her a good pilot! CKA? Did you mean CFA?

@@wb6csh A CKA is a Check Airman. A CKA trains both captains and copilots and sometimes just sits in the jumpseat, during periodic or random checkrides, to evaluate their performance. I'm not saying she is a bad pilot. What she is doing wrong is very common with new pilots who eventually become excellent pilots. When I was teaching at ERAU, one of the CFIs was a B-25 pilot in WW2. He had some great stories.

I noticed the same things you did, and I am a mere private pilot. Just like you, I immediately thought of Sully when this girl looked like she was afraid to take her eyes off the instruments and look OUTSIDE. The airport environment is not the place to keep your eyes inside. My favorite CFI was a USAF Lt. Col. who was an IP in everything from King Airs and Hawker bizjets to C-47's and KC-135's. He also happened to be my older brother, and he didn't pull any punches.

@@bryansimmons4550 Your brother has an impressive resume. I’ve been in the jumpseat of a DC3 (C47) but never had the pleasure of flying one. Some of my best memories in aviation are when I was a private pilot. With birds, spot them early and maneuver the plane so they keep moving across the windshield. If they stop moving across the windshield you’re going to hit them. Departing O’Hare one day with poor visibility, we had just initiated a left turn and nearly hit a flock of geese. I was looking left to clear the turn. My FO spotted them ahead and snapped the jet back to the right. It was very close. As the left wing came up, they went under it. Keep the blue side up 😀

All those instruments are amazing. You come to appreciation how precise everything has to be to even build one plane. She did a great job.

I agree. It is an honour to see you at work. When the 737 climbed out of the clouds, it's then you appreciate the marvel of air travel. Thank you for all you do.

She is the aircraft’s First Officer. Typically, the Captain (left seat) and First Officer (right seat) alternate flying duties while the other operates the comms, et al. Both are difficult duties. Typically the Captain does the taxiing, especially dependent on the aircraft type, ie some aircraft don’t have taxiing abilities in the right seat. In this video, the First Officer took off and was flying the aircraft.

She is the CO-Pilot - During pushback and taxi, she did NOTHING more than the checklist and talk with ground control - what EVERY Co-Pilot does. The CAPTAIN checked the controls, taxied the plane to the take-off runway, the lets the CO-Pilot push thrusters forward. She was "in control" of the YOKE, but the 1st 2,000 feet she's all over the pace with it. ALWAYS looking at her instruments and didn't look outside until the last 20 seconds. There is no doubt she's qualified, but needs a lot more hours to be THE PILOT in Command.

From Canada: C'mon dude. Would you say, "Handsome male pilot takes off his Boeing B737-800?" Get serious. A qualified pilot is a qualified pilot, regardless of gender. BTW, I'm a qualified pilot.

@@cosettepotozniak7987 Both are pilots. Normally, the one in the left seat is the pilot in command, aka the Captain. On a training flight, the pilot in the right seat would be the pilot in command if training a Captain.

Not really, you move the thrust levers forward, wait till you hear V1 and then gently pull the yoke towards you. Overtaking in a car is more difficult.

Nocsak! Nem kétlem, hogy szép nő, de azért felénk is vannak szépségek! Amúgy felidézte bennem ez a videó egy utazásomat a 747-es pilótafülkéjében (mint hétköznapi utas) Benghazi és Athén között.... (Olympic Airline) A kapitány invitált be a fülkébe, mikor a beszállásnál kiszúrt és megkérdezte, hogy hová valósi vagyok. Miután megtudta, hogy magyar vagyok, felajánlotta a pilótafülkében való utazást nekem. Ott ültem középen a kapitány és a másodpilóta között az ajtóban egy lecsapható fapados deszkán. A kapitány ül a bal oldalon, jobbra a másodpilóta. Csak hosszas kérdezősködés után tudtam meg a meghívás okát, amikor végül megszólalt a kapitány magyarul, hogy azért mert "az Árpád Gimnáziumban érettségiztem"! Budapesten született görög pilóta volt, aki a '80-as évek elején "haza vándorolt" Görögországba. Egyébként a Szűcs Judit énekesnő sógora volt. Nagy élmény volt ez nekem, mindez 1991-ben..... Ma már ilyen nem történhetne meg.

THe Co-Pilot didn't check for OUTSIDE AIR TRAFFIC until that last 25 seconds of the video - she was GLUED to the instrument panel. Could be she's gaining experience. There is no way she should be struggling with the YOKE, the airplane's auto-pilot should be keeping the plane steady.

I've been to and from that airport quite a few times. I've only flown Tarom on their ATRs. I'm hoping to get the baby bus next time. But now I'll check which routes have a 737. :)

This appears to be a Tarom Rumanian Airlines 737. They did the push-back from hard stand at the maintenance base at the Tarom hangar. Base is at Bucharest’s Otopeni Int’l Airport. Good job by the first officer. Might be a training flight. ✈️

There is a comment above: @catalinache 11 days ago it was at Otopeni Airport, Bucharest :) Indeed TAROM is the Romanian national airline, there are several TAROM planes on the ground and Otopeni is the Bucharest airport. Maybe Mr. Catalinache recognized the landscape. I have another doubt however. The beauty is sitting in the co-pilot seat on the right. The captain is sitting on the left side and you can see his full profile at 4:38. So who is actually taking off; the co-pilot or the captain?

Right after takeoff the first officer is on instruments flying the a/c. I think this is a training flight. As is usual, right after takeoff, the aircraft is programmed for the autopilot to take over. So as she was flying it, once, they clear the clouds and are on top, a glance ahead and out the window is normal.

What is that thing called that spins around and clicks just to the right of the control throttle? And what is its use?

Sitting in the jump seat (above the nose wheel) feels like riding in a shopping trolley, its so bumpy on some taxiways. They wanted the whole runway, started on piano keys. She flew by instruments the whole takeoff (cool).

I was watching a livestream the other day and the tail almost touched the ground. I jumped up asking what are you doing. I may have changed my mind about thrust now. It's exciting to glue him to the seat.
