When he gave in a shook hands with Magnus could he not have took the pawn with his Bishop and been able to play on? Yes he would most likely lose his Bishop to magnus with the Queen but he'd still be able to move his king away from magnus's queen Or am I missing something here

But Karjakin won another *Blitz Schach* event! In July 2012, Karjakin won the World Rapid Chess Championship a full point ahead of world number one Magnus Carlsen in Astana, Kazakhstan. In the same month, he also tied for first at Dortmund with Fabiano Caruana but came in second after tiebreak.

One of the reasons Magnus is so good is because he plays fast in the beginning as he has every beginning memorised. Later the opponents play under pressure whereas he can take his time to finish off the opponents. Not taking anything away from the genius that is Magnus

In order to stop Magnus' H pawn he would have to trade his rook for Magnus' bishop. After Magnus retakes with his pawn, Karjakin can do nothing to prevent it from becoming a queen before his own pawn. Therefore he resigned.

@Pablo Man Don't be a moron! That DGT chessboard costs about $500+. Its an official FIDE eboard. It tracks and records all the movements of the pieces. The DGT computer hookup is clearly seen next to the chess clock. Where do you think that computer image of the chess game (in the top middle of the screen comes from)!?

You have to look at blacks options. Rook, queen, pawn means it's impossible to escape checkmate. Black king can't move, but if not in check. But black can't escape checkmate

Chess is not only about taking opponent's piece. If there is other way that can lead to a checkmate. You should do it. And also, if he takes with his rook, then he will lost the *only* defender to his king

Are you an idiot? How is it sloppy? He took a second to verify whether the knight is better on f4 vs d4. The knight is attacked so of course it is the only piece he would move. What does it matter to you whether he touches the obvious piece first or not?
