orrr you could just beatmatch by putting the tune in, speeding up or slowing down the track using the side of the cdjs platter wheel and adjust the pitch accordingly depending on whether you had to speed it up or slow it down. Instead of taking like 4 mins to go through the whole pitch range lol

I see lot of people use controllers and heavily reliant on the sync button, but when their tracks won't sync, if the computer has trouble processing it, then there puzzled, its why you should always rely on your good old fashioned ear, its makes you a better DJ and its much more of a buzz mixing that way, even with CDJ's, you don't gain completely accurate ear for mixing as using vinyl is the the most fundamental method way of mixing

I don't do that spin on the jog-wheel to sync, simply hit cue button on every four count. Don't follow the CDj's BPM counters they are never accurate, the jog-wheel goes clockwise when trying to sync if turn back the jog-wheel your track needs to slow down if you have to move it up your track is going too slow, your tracks are ready to be mixed perfectly once your sync track can be beatmatched at least at a 32 count beat. real DJ's beatmatch by ear, anyone can mix with a computer. The mixing itself is another skill knowing how to work with Mids Highs Lows and Gain.

the bpm counters are usually accurate when you scan through recordbox first. but yea on CDJ 900s you needed to beatmatch by ears. These didn't even have a synch

This guy definitely used to play vinyl from the way he "throws" the track in instead of finding the first beat and cueing it up instead like most DJs do nowadays.

I normally post only positive comments, but I don't think this video explained the process, nor was the end result sounding very good. Perhaps a re-shoot with better explanation and a more clear result. This video seemed almost as if you were trying to figure it out yourself as you are trying to teach how to do it.

Vinyl is much less accurate, cause due to air friction or something, the bpm of a song in a serato vinyl constantly changes by 0.1. which actually is a lot.

Depending on your equipment, you can beat match as many songs or loops as you have decks available. For instance, Traktor 2 allows four track decks or up to 16 sample decks which can all be beat matched/ synced

***** What Is wrong with using the sync button! So narrow minded. It's the same principle as telling an F1 driver he's not allowed to use flappy paddle gearbox. I use the sync button to instantaneously get my tracks in sync so I can remix 4 tracks together with ease, where as manual beat-matching would not allow for this. Where some more modern DJ's lack skill in the art of beat-matching they use that time to make up for it in more creative ways, and often this translates to the crowd better!

Still there is a costly display which displays the BPM's, you can just move the pitch control to match the decks BPM's. Also this guy is teaching beginners how to essentially mix, it is most like they will using vdj's with a sync function as vdjs are cheap. Don't also give me, ohh you need to be able to beatmatch for oldschool songs with real drummers, because this DJ plays straight house!

Since when does beat matching distinguishes good Dj's apart from bad ones. Haha bad example since in the past it would be very much that. He has CDj's which display the tempo on the LCD screen, and this is correct 95% of the time and almost 100% of the time for house with a regular 4/4 Beat. This eliminates the need for using your ears for this, you can even use a sync button to get them in time near to 100% of the time. Instead of wasting time beat matching, use your time to be creative and mash up, scratch and live remix not to beat match. What separates good and bad Dj's these days is their creativity. ( I know this vid is made 4 years ago but still with his expensive decks he's lying if he says he beat matches, or he's and idiot or I'm mistaken that his decks have sync function)

Hallelujah ! someone is speaking the truth right here ! cause yeah , beatmashing is pretty cool when your only job as a dj is to switch from deck A to deck B and the track running is an 8 min long generic house track, but THEN when playing hip hop with 3 decks at once, have fun syncing the acapella while scratching and adding effects...

The second you press sync is the second you stop you cease to be a DJ and start being an Ipod with legs. Real Djs do all that while beatmatching. It's the foundation you have to learn before those tricks are learnt otherwise everyone in the world would be a DJ because it takes five minutes with all the tech out today

I taught myself to beat match using an old pitch adjustable tape player. Years ago. You can match things up within a few seconds with practice. Then need to leave them playing for longer to get them closer. Pretty much all of the big names adjust the EQ to kill the bass on one of the tracks. That tends to hide slightly out of sync tracks. Swap the bass EQ over at some point in the cross over.

You can sneak away with a bout 10bpm variance max also if your using cdjs there is a pitch lock function on most of the pioneer ones so you can change tempo with out change. also you can do non beat matched mixes , use effects for example delay out one track as you filter sweep it and fade in the next track, use a turntable break then slam your next track on you dont always have to beatmatch your mixes but thats not an excuse not to learn to beatmatch either.

i use it sometimes for really specific stuff, but if your a dj who relies on sync, more than likely you are doing automated train wrecks, 90% of the time the sync button is not correct.

Some tracks the way they are produced naturally slightly fade off 4:4 point as they progress, if you don't know how to adjust that as it goes you'll have times where you totally bomb. Plus you'll mess up the next track as well and so on and so forth. Not enough people have trained ears and if you learn to beatmatch you're training your ears which is an extremely significant and important DJing skill.

I have a ddjsx and it has a sync button. I learnt on my own that u cannot depend on sync button. Not every song has a straight ahead beat. To actually dj u need more than just a sync button. That thing doesnt matter. Cus i ended up having doing it by ear. Plus its like evan said there are ranges in the bpm where its never gonna be spot on just by matching the beat frm the bpm. U still gotta do it by heart and ears. And I dont use my sync button.

Sometimes even though they may appear to be the same BPM this can be quite vague. Say your songs are both at 128BPM, one could be at 128.0 but the other could be on 128.6 , Even if they are just a tiny bit apart over time they will drift. The thing that makes you a DJ is being able to keep them in sync. Hope this helps a bit :)
