Amazed by how many people are being so easily fooled by this, since the AI is obviously advancing way too slowly for hardest and on hardest would simply defeat this strat by swarming that forward base with units (the AI in this vid has far fewer units than a real hardest would). If you want proof look at the obvious edit: at 0:20 the human player name is Galaksius but then at 0:35 it's suddenly Icosebyte. This is a simple editing trick. The game you're watching isn't hardest, and anyone actually thinking should have been suspicious of the too few units the AI was throwing at the player! I bet Icosebyte is giggling behind his hand at how much adulation and upvotes he's gotten by simply splicing a video of him picking the "hardest" difficulty on the game setup screen together with a video of him beating the AI on standard or moderate! Hat tip to earlier commenter Gaël Maryns for pointing out the video's edited.

It is indeed possible in AoC. I managed to beat 3 hardest AI simultaneously with a fast castle + stone wall strategy as the Mongols. Eventually I pushed out with my Rams, couple trebs and an army of elite mangudai and hussars.

as far as i know, in the Forgotten Empire Edition, if you use skirmisher to attack the AI villagers, they're gonna fight back :(

Build order was fuckall and the way he placed his buildings so friggin' far away from the resources simply triggered me everytime. Don't waste your time on this...there are better AoE2 casters doing a fab job

CPU doesn't have delays between clicks etc. Just record your game and watch it as CPU side. You'll see. Some versions of CPU have more resources. If harder difficulty then more resources.

+Jens Allert That's because the computer gets a resource infusion every age. The higher the difficulty, the larger the resource infusion.

We are in 2016 and this doesn't work with the new AI. I just played a game where I turned Castle Age at 16:30 and at this time the computer in Hard Level (not hardest!!) was already attacking my farms with 8-12 archers. Even though, I destroyed their Archery Range, Barracks and Town Center and maybe killed 15 villagers, but he managed to build another Barracks, Stable and Siege Workshop to take my units and constructions down (he got a real quick Castle Age too). The new AI starts with more resources and more Line of Sight (some people say they start with revealed map but I'm not sure about this). So, easiest way to beat him is to build 3 layers walls (easier in Black Forest) and protect it with Sieges until you boom so strong to take him down. Even cheating resources, the AI doesn't know how to take your walls down and destroy your base. He just take all his army (knights, infantary, etc) to attack your wall while you destroy them with Sieges). Anyway, some mistakes I've seen in this game: 1. Mill, Lumber Camp and other stuffs a little bit far from the resources (1 tiles is enough, 2 or more is bad). Bad army micro (ex: 1 skirmisher died against 1 man at arms while 4 other skirmishers were just following them without range to attack). 2 or 3 times I noticed the TC was idle. Anyway, it's a good video for beginners but it doesn't work anymore and there are some minors mistakes that a pro wouldn't make.

Hardest ai. Ive beaten it a few times.. Very very hard.. It is extremely fast.. But its very predictable... Its strategy is basically.. Build military units constantly. If u do this u will get in a tie with him for 3 hours and maybe win.

Awesome video and helpful to me even though it is over two years later. I just picked up AoE HD. I use to play this like crazy. The only thing I would recommend would be to research murder holes. It would have helped the towers. But obviously you didn't need it.

That 29:30 castle time on hardest. Damn. I will try this early aggresion strat. Great vid!

@@lufenmartofilia5804 Yeah one thing I noticed is the AI here only builds fishing ships, when I recently played they built an early dock like this guy's AI did, but they built loads of warships out of it and I couldn't go anywhere near the coast. They also had a large army, as I discovered when I attacked assuming that since they had so many ships they can't possibly have a big army as well, though it turns out they did. Even quite early on they had warships so there's no way I could have done what this guy did, look how near the coast his barracks/range/stable are. My game was only Moderate difficulty though.

What is going on here? 15 minutes into any game playing Regicide on Moderate, and the AI always has an entire army; you're playing on Hardest and the AI only has a handful of troops.

Every hardest ai easy on island map once they stuck with villager boom on feudal go quickly rise to castle and then train some galleon to control water area. I like forgotten empire ai they aren't allowed to use cheat resources

Id tower the Mill and gold. Let him have stone and wood cause you dont get anywhere on that. focus on strangling food and gold first hand. Which forces him to get some kind of ranged unit, then i roll knights and rams that i build in his face (near his base) then mass attack once i have an army, towers take his attention meanwhile

The name of the player is different at the beginning of the game and during the game. It's clearly not in hardest difficulty. Lots of beginner mistakes (deers not hunted, 10 villies on berries, 1 lumber camp instead of 2...)

How does he que up 5 archers to be made with one button press? It seems like the current hard AI in regular AOE II HD edition is harder than this AI in the forgotten though. They age must faster now and boom very well. Also how do you build buildings so quickly, just using the hotkeys? placing one after the other instantly.

No idea how different it was back during that time, but with the current African Kingdom expansion this strategy doesn't work anymore. Costs have changed, as have dozens of technologies. The AI pulls out way more units as soon it reaches the Feudal Age. (Even on Hard and Medium difficulties.)

I miss his game so much! I think my mother game away all my old videos games without asking after the house computer died. Do the still sell these maybe I will buy it it after the pandemic, maybe some of the total war games too. However my current PC is for writing my children boos not for gaming.

Who has this kind of game here. I miss it so bad.

Because this isn't hardest mode, it's easy or moderate. Hardest will also not give up this easily or allow any of these aggresive plays to go unanswered.

+Kaan TT just understood this myself not a long time ago. If he does archers, you do skirms, if he does a krush - go archers (to harrass him) and pikes (to kill knights). A krush from AI is easier to hold against, but if you let him mass his archers - God have mercy :D

Lol this wasn't hardest mode, this was moderate at best. Opponents at hardest mode don't give up this quickly, they relocate and build another base, and another, and another until all their villagers and town halls are gone.

+Pablo Vargas The original AI is the base one the had in original AoE ||, the new AI is a AI they remodelled for the release of AoE || HD, because the old AI was to easy to beat. Old AI, if u want, u can play 2-3 hardest, just defend yourself till they are out of resources, or something, and they have no strat to defend when you attack their base. So it's boring late. New AI got a new way of thinking, which make it harder to predict, at least for an old AoE player. But lots are the same, they are just smarter and faster, more strats up their hands. Good that they did this.!!

after you set paths (the flags), right click anywhere in the map to make him move then he'll automatically follow the flags you've pinpointed.

Why don't you speak and explain what you're doing and why you're doing it.

I was playing Moderate, and within a minute, (two, tops) all my opponents had reached Feudal Age, another minute or two and one of them was on Castle Age and after that he began sending in 5-10 Uniques every minute or so... Bug or what the fuck? Needless to say I rather lost my appetite. It is impossible to gather resources for the forces, let alone build such forces so quickly. I don't care how many villagers you got. Fuck this game. That said, brilliantly played! -Sang
