Beating a Food Addiction | CR Pete Petersen | TEDxUIdaho

According to the World Health Organization, and perhaps for the first time in history, there are now more people in the world who are malnourished and obese than malnourished and underweight. Our relationships with food have evolved over the past century, leading to this paradox. In this talk, Pete sheds some light on this problem and offers a solution. Pete was morbidly obese for almost 30 years. Doctors diagnosed him with diabetes, depression, fatty liver, and high blood pressure along with neuropathy, partial blindness, and sleep apnea. He lost 115 lbs about seven years ago and kept it off with a reversal of several health issues. He’s spent most of his career working with people with disabilities and is a diabetes prevention coach. He’s a member of the board of directors and Chair of the board for the Upper-valley Center for Domestic Violence and chair of the Madison County Community Council. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Any one of these success stories could be my starting point. So far, all of them have failed to bring me any meaningful change to my body, albeit my attitude and knowledge towards food and eating has changed greatly for the better. I've learned to not beat myself up about it as well. I'm proud of both accomplishments. I am happy that you've made the change happen. I'm happy to see people are able to despite my personal lack of success. Every one of you remind me, like this guy on the video, that losing weight is not impossible. Thank you for sharing.

I do this, but I have insomnia and chronic fear so night time binge eating is like my "pacifier"... it quells me temporarily, but I always end up feeling awful because of glucose spikes and mood changes. Also inflammation and other pains. Being healthy is so much better, but why do I still choose the junkfood at night? I eat healthy all day and drink just water. I exercise, meditate, journal.... Thank you for sharing. I am only 25 lbs overweight but the food addiction is the same, nonetheless. I've come to the conclusion that I've been lazy with many things, not just food discipline..and I've discovered that being disciplined in all aspects of my life will help me lose weight.. Like stop hitting snooze and just get up; practicing piano daily even when I don't feel like it; forcing myself to go for a walk even when it's cold outside. These are all helping me strengthen that will to say no to foods that don't help me achieve weight loss.. Good luck to you!

the truth is if you completely stop eating junk and fill your body with whole foods, mostly plants, you lose the addiction to junk. Even if you cave in and get your favorite after weeks of clean eating not only will it not taste as good as you remember but then you get to see how it really affects your body, headache, stomach discomfort, fatigue, craving more.

I’ve always been able to control myself in and out of diets it’s always been easy to lose weight when I want. But now I’m struggling and it’s a full on addiction. I do it for 4 days then I cave and I’m really scared. Any advice on where to begin. I’m really desperate. Everything is emotional. HELP!!

Ykw I am in my weight loss journey.... trying my best to loose the weight. Also depressed because of my career . And this food addiction is literally killing me . Just because of this I can't even focus on any other thing. I tried alot of things nothing helps me. I am feeling pity over myself. How i became worst version of myself. Because of this food addiction i becomes depressed, boring , lazy , toxic.... and all these things are killing me now. Please someone share your thought regarding to my situation. Please i want to get rid of this permanently please 🥺.
