This map had a different origin story than all my other maps. Normally, I like a song and am inspired to do an Expert+ map, then I may or may not downmap depending on a bunch of factors. But this map started as a bit of a joke for my son. He loves this song, so one day while he was at school I decided to map it for him to surprise him when he got home. I mapped it on Easy with dots only (adding the arcs) and the whole thing (with lights) took about 2 hours or so. I let him pick the colours he played, and he FC'd it after a few tries...he was so proud. I posted the video of him playing the map, which you can check out here if you like:

That was going to be it. I wasn't going to make other difficulties or publish the one I had, because this was just a quick project for my son to enjoy. But the video of him playing this map ended up being my most watched video on my channel (it's not a big channel, we're talking ~700 views as of publishing this, but that's still a lot for me). Also, I already had the lights done, so why not map more difficulties?
I am so glad I did. This was an incredibly fun song to map.
Normal difficulty always ends up being the hardest one for me to map. I never seem to know what to focus on, and I always end up overmapping for several drafts (according to my dad, who does my testplays at this level). Ideally I want no more than about 5 notes in a row without a break, or to keep the patterns very simple if I go over that. Also, I try to map very few scissor doubles but some always end up sneaking in there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
