You can beat menopausal belly fat. Watch as Dr. Becky shares the foods to eat and avoid to starve your fat cells (not yourself).

When you reach menopause your body wants more fat because fat is a source of estrogen. However, you don’t want those extra pounds. In this video, I show you how to keep belly fat under control by starving your fat cells, without starving yourself.
Menopause changes two things:
1. It changes where fat is stored on your body (i.e. more gets deposited in your midsection and less in your lower body).
2. It changes where estrogen is produced. The ovaries no longer make estrogen, but your fat cells do, so higher body fat% is not frowned upon by your post-menopausal body.
Cortisol is another hormone that is not automatically thought about with menopause, but it contributes to belly fat. Think of cortisol as the stress hormone, physical or emotional stress, even a lack of sleep causes an increased release of cortisol.
Bottom Line: you have to work with your body during and after menopause to get it to do what you want. The trick is to starve your fat cells without starving yourself. I show you how with the right food choices and time-restricted eating.

I am slowly losing fat on keto and I think just the fact that I cut wheat out of my diet was key. I noticed that my joints feel better (I don't shuffle around like a zombie when I first get up in the a.m. and joint swelling is down), have better mental clarity and just feel better in general. Plus, I never have food cravings. I'm 67 and feel better now than I did in my younger years. I eat delicious meats, eggs, avacados, low carb vegetables and salads, a few berries, seeds, a little Greek yogurt with cinnamon and chopped pecans added, use whipping cream in my coffee, and cook with good fats. I'll take any weight loss at this point, even if it's slow, to get rid of that nasty belly fat.
Thanks, keep it simple no more sugar, sleep well, meditate to release stress, low impact exercise, interval eating and keep being grateful and decisive for a better & greater you. 💚

Excellent advice. Thank you for common sense advice for us older women who are struggling and frustrated with this stubborn belly fat problem. It's depressing and is a lot of hard work to get rid of! I am determined to follow your regimen and not give in so easily to temptation!
I felt like she was talking to me, just telling me continue doing what you do but add this and that. Thank you Dr. Becky
You’re my new obsession. I have been on this new journey since July and you are making it even easier.
Thank You so much.. so informative and makes so much sense. I'm forty-six and for the past four years the belly fat has grown. Now I understand why. I won't be so hard on myself now.

I am definitely going to make an effort to try this before bed fasting. I have been so depressed lately due to premenopausal weight gain. I have always been an athlete with a wash board stomach. Now I have a huge flabby belly! Not quite sure how to battle against the results of my body's new chemistry (lack of estrogen). Gonna make a conscious effort to try this fast before bed. I wish everyone else good luck, too in this new adventure called premenopause!
Thank you for the clarity..very happy I found this!!!

Excellent! Thank YOU!! I had a hysterectomy age 37 (now 51) and just asked my GYN what I can to get rid of my "pouch". Her answer, (1) plastic surgery or (2) starve myself. I wish there was more education helping women with hysterectomies at young ages and how to cope mentally and physically. I have a pouch under my belly button. So many people think it is from having children and sadly I did not.

Very helpful. I already do much of this but am going to implement more.
Intermittent fasting has been around a long, long time. Cybil Shephard did a magazine interview about it in the mid-1970s (and it wasn't new then). The other thing she did was just 10 minutes exercise, set exercise, each morning. I was very young, so the weight came off quickly, but this worked wonders for myself and friends. I rarely buy magazines, so the time and the person are set in my memory. The exercise were simple, like leg raises. Thanks for reinforcing this tip. I've since wondered if it would work again. I will start today. :)
Hi Dr. Becky! I love your youtube videos and I really appreciate what you are doing!
You're video is simple and makes sense. Thank you.
1. Keep cortisol low. Less stress. Avoid processed food 2. Eat a lot of vegetables, fruits, healthy fats (nuts and seeds, avocados) 3. Extras to add to diet - Ceylon cinnamon, 70% or higher cocoa chocolate, one drink a day (12oz beer, 5oz wine or 1.5oz hard drink) 4. Time restricted eating - 12hr to eat and 12hr to rest.

Excellent!!! I'm doing most of this and grew up eating under the time restriction or Intermittent fasting (before I even knew this was a thing). So it's good to know that I'm on the right track now that I'm 50. I've never had weight issues and I honestly still don't, but since menopause I have been experiencing the belly fat around my waist line, that's what I really wanting to focus on.
Best video I have seen for older women to date. This was so well done I love it.

I let the bread , pasta, rice ,and sweets go for five months so far , and now I no longer look like I'm six months pregnant due to belly fat . I thought that it would be impossible... because I had a large stomach for a long time. It worked . My diet consisted of vegetables and meats and a smoothie of spinach and pineapple just about every day along with exercise, but sticking to this diet was damn hard at first , but I'm conquering my sugar(s) addiction so far...

I so appreciate your educational videos. I am a 56 year woman who has always been active, healthy and slender. I would describe my body shape as pear. BUT, recently, in the past few years, I have added belly fat and weight that WILL NOT leave. So, now, more apple shaped. Lol. I have always eaten a clean healthy diet, etc. Weight seemed impossible to gain until that after 50 year mark. The struggle is real! I’ve been attempting the intermittent fasting method for the last few weeks and I have noticed an increase in energy. I did lose 4 1/2 pounds in a few weeks time and then it seem to come right back. I do struggle with sleep issues so getting proper rest is not my friend. Right now I am focusing on a 6 to 8 hour eating window, which seems very easy for me, trying to take in enough calories in that amount of time and getting enough sleep. Because I sleep at odd hours. For some reason, I tend to be both a night owl and a day person. I think it has been a lifelong struggle but as I’ve gotten older it has gotten worse. I have trouble falling asleep and it’s a constant battle. I’m working on that but I love watching your videos because they do give me hope. I am 5‘7“ tall. I weigh 170 pounds. 35 of those pounds came on after age 50. Like some other person stated, they crept up on me! I did not see it coming. I’m going to keep trying and I am grateful for your videos. Thanks for all you do!

😳 OMG I could have written this post…this is me exactly, except I’m 5’8”. I’m horrified by what’s happening to my body, and it seems as though I just can’t stop this train wreck! Intermittent fasting isn’t working, I eat a healthy diet, and the pounds and inches just keep coming. I’m an active farm owner, (not a couch potato) and I just had a calcium score done on my heart, and it’s ZERO, so I’m in good health in general. I’ve always been thin…I just don’t understand what’s happening to me. =(

“What a lovely woman!” is what I kept thinking throughout watching this video. I was already aware of some of her tips, except the 12 hr window of eating/fasting. Physical trauma is never discussed in any video about weight loss....I would love it! I went from eating whatever and being very thin to all my muscles turning into fat and having to cut what I eat by more than half. I can still nearly walk almost ten years later.

Thank you for this video. Fighting off the menopot has been a slow, painful struggle for me. I entered full blown menopause at 52 and my pancreas went into sleep mode and stopped processing of any refined sugars or grains. I developed gas, bloating, constipation and an unbudgeable spare tire and 10 extra pounds that refuse to leave even with strict calorie counting and intense exercise and weight training. Although my fasting glucose hovered between 85-95, this was 10 points higher than my premenopausal FBS. Determined to at least get healthy (if not return to my 25 inch waist----now 27 1/2"), I have cut out all grains and sugars. I did that almost a month ago. I have improved energy and my fasting glucose is now 79. Haven't weighed myself but I have lost 1/4" in my waist....better than nothing I guess. I expected more but at my age, I guess it comes slowly.

The lady in the video actually tells more about the title from min. 9. I decided to watch the video because the title describes what I am doing at the moment. Some time ago I saw a video entitled "intermittent fasting method" and that s what this lady is talking about too. So I knew that this thing was working. I put on some weight when I started eating at irregular hours during winter time, not paying attention what hour of day or night and so I had a few pounds to shed! And I can tell you that this method called "intermittent fasting" ,that the lady is also talking about from min.9, is really working! I actually started "starving my fat cells" as she calls it, some 2-3 weeks ago and since the summer is nearing here in Europe, I wanted it to be a bit more drastic method. So this is what I am doing: I have a good breakfast in the morning, and then good lunch with proteins and vegetables around 2,3pm and then NOTHING until the next morning :). And it works really well, I am not hungry at all. If I start thinking of munching in the evening, it s not that I feel hungry, but rather it s just a matter of habit after some hours of not eating...I make myself a tea instead, and that s it, then comes bed time and it is very doable I can tell you that! In 2 weeks, I lost 2.5 kg, and I have another 7 to loose still, to get to my perfect weight! I see a difference on my stomach already. I really do! And that s without any kind of depriving myself of food and almost no exercise, not more than usual. I eat whatever I like! Also the lady in the video did mention no sugary food etc. I do that too. I watched a BBC video on sugar as a poison a few months ago, and really stopped using added sugar. But I am no slave to any restrictions, I just dont eat chocolate, biscuits, candies and such, I never was much fan of that junk, but I did buy chocolate sometimes. (Now i make cocoa drinks). But when I feel like it, I buy myself a cake and whatever I want. But I do not crave it anymore. I find that it takes a little adjusting for a month or 2, I did crave it in the beginning and found it to be peculiar as I dont really have a sweet tooth, but someething in my stomach wanted sugar!! It s kind of addictive probably......Anyway I dont crave it now at all. And I find some cakes too sweet for my taste. :) Sugar is really bad. I find carrot is soo sweet, but healthy sweet :) and I appreciate it now much more than before. Nature already contains so much sugar :) So when I stopped eating added sugar, I found myself eating a lot of carrot and a lot of dates lol. But now I dont even crave that anymore. :) I guess I should make my own video lol. Sorry....talking too much. I just wanted to tell my experience. And I can confirm that the lady knows what she is talking about and the video is good to watch, but check those two topics I mentioned too as those two topics are very educational. I also drink a lot of kefir, fermented milk and probiotic drinks, to change a bit my gut flora, I often make flax seed drink (just like the lady in the video says) with cinnamon, even pumpkin seed in a kefir and drink it. Anyways, I feel great, and I eat well, I dont crave food and I feel full, I dont feel like starving myself at all! Maybe I am looking forward to my breakfast when I go to sleep lol, but I am not tempted to eat before bed AT ALL. You just need to find your own "no food window", but not starving yourself, just eat for example 2 meals per day and decide whichever time of day suits you to have that big no food window. As simple as that! :) WHen I have shed my extra pounds, I ll probably return to 3 meals a day, but will pay attention to eat the last meal some hours before bed time. :)

Excellent video. Thank you so much.
I wish I had known this 10 years ago when I was going through menopause! I knew weight gain was likely, and over the years I put on maybe 20 pounds. Found out about time-restricted eating from my husband, who is T2D and HE found out about it through a focus group discussion on managing diabetes. Thinking I too might be getting insulin resistant, I started 16:8 IF, and have lost 8 pounds in two months. It's a sustainable lifestyle, and I'm hoping to lose all my "menopausal weight" in the next few months. Haven't noticed a decrease in belly fat yet, but there must be some because my pants fit better.

CInammom is one of the spices that is produced and exported from Sri Lanka which used to be called Ceylon. Hence the name Ceylon Cinammon. I used to chew Cinammon like gum while going to school when I was a kid in Ceylon.
