@@dper1112 WRONG!!! - "With a (FAMOUS) solo like that (A SOLO THE AUDIENCE 'EXPECTS')" - this DEMANDS the musician plays the original solo. The reason Slash did 'his own thing' is because HE COULDN'T PLAY EDDIE'S SOLO. Slash is not even on the same planet as Eddie as a guitarist. Here's another bombshell for you - you have just stated you'd also be 'OK' with Slash DESTROYING Gary Moore's Parisienne Walkways with 'his own thing' - think about that!!

I am such a Slash fan, but I'm also a firm believer that some solos are already perfect, and this is one of them. Orianthi absolutely kills it, keeping true to EVH's original solo but with a smidgen of her own personality. Slash does Slash.

Jones contacted Ed and there were some interesting words because Ed thought he was being played by someone. But anyway, NO Ed was not loaded when he got there because he didn't want to piss off Jones. In the end, Ed essentially re-wrote the song and took about a half hour to track the solo. He was given full artistic reign. MJ was down the hall doing voice-overs in S7 which made it that much easier for Ed to do his thing. The solo was parted but the final was cut on 2" tape. In the end and from what I saw, Ed transformed the entire track and as far as off stories and YT rumors, this was just a day in the studio.

I agree. But it's also about the context of the show. The show Orianthi was rehearsing was a bowing out retrospective for MJ. In that context, I think it's better to remain more loyal to the original. Slash was doing it at a more active point in MJs career, where a new take on older stuff was a good idea to keep the show alive, and was a huge name in his own right with his own recognisable style. Slash definitely puts his own twist on it and makes it sound fresh. Ori stays true to Eddy's version. They both do well.

O que o Slash fez na música foi improviso..... O que que tem ?! Para mim os dois guitarristas são maravilhosos... Música é arte ... Música não tem q ser sistemática sempre .... É isso que diferencia

Takes more skill to replicate an existing solo then it does to make up your own.

Actually, one is butchering a legendary solo by a legendary player because he physically cannot replicate the original, the other is a newer shredder who CAN play it replicating the original, as requested by her boss.
