The Webasto Airtop 2000 STC is now our standard heater for our Promaster builds due to its efficiency and performance. We love that it connects straight to the fuel tank of your van, and that it uses a minimal amount of power - and of course, that it pumps super hot air.
We've got a bunch more instructional and DIY videos coming your way from our 2018 Promaster including:
- Designing and building a U- Lounge seating for up to 6 people with custom upholstery (family van)
- A second pull out bed for families or guests
- Installing a huge skylight right over the bed for stargazing
- Custom upper and lower cabinetry
- Swivel seats
- Complete off-grid solar electrical system
- Various lighting around the van and accent floor 'mood' lighting
- Kitchen with full-size stainless steel sink and instant hot water
- Installing propane in your van
- An outdoor shower
And so much more!

I like where you located the Webasto. I'm concerned about the distance away from the gas tank and the number of bends the fuel line would take given the added distance verses locating it behind the seats. The location you chose is certainly a cleaner install.

This is a great thing to bring up! Based on the recommendations from Webasto, this location is great. As a general rule of thumb you want to locate the PUMP as close to the fuel tank as possible, and not more than 10 feet away from the tank. This is because it is much stronger when pushing fuel vs. sucking fuel. The pump can suck up to 10 feet, but it can push up to 30 feet! So as long as your pump is located closer than 10 feet to your tank, you can place your Webasto anywhere in your vehicle with no issues.

Hi guys, just installed mine, happy days! The one connection on the wiring harness that you guys used first was for the old type controller which is shit, so I found out. Got the new multi controller like you guys have now and all is fine ☀️😁. Have fun out there 🤘🏼

Hey y'all! Just wondering if you used the right angle piece of metal piping with the rubber gasket (upper right corner) shown at 1:01 of your video. I can't figure out what it is used for or if you used it at all! Thank you!!

That is a fuel standpipe and no we didn't need to use it in our build. Those are used only if your vehicle doesn't have an auxiliary fuel port, in which case you would need to drop the gas tank and drill your own hole into it, you'll have to do this in most Ford Transits. Very very important that if you do this, you clean up ALL of the plastic shavings because you don't want anything loose in your tank :)

Great video guys! I have the same exact wire harness as you do and the fusing placement is confusing me, I know in the F1 spot the 15 amp fuse goes there what fuse goes in the F2 spot? And if you wanted to use your fuse block instead of inline fuses you should be able to cut off the inline fuse and connect it to you vans fuse block right?

  • @jenniejames

You could, although Webasto doesn't recommend that because it uses such high amperage at startup, and much less during continued use. They also don't recommend modifying their wiring harness at all, so it's best to stick to their advice to maintain warranty.

Does the Webasto heater require 12V 20A to start? I read 12V only around 10A start it. I am hoping that I could use my Goal Zero Yeti 1000 via Anderson power-pole connectors but only 12V 10A power output.

  • @jenniejames

Hey Trang, the heater comes with two in line fuses, and the largest is a 20A fuse which leads me to believe you would need a 20A supply for start up. Once the heater is running it only uses about 2-5A

@@jenniejames I have been using my 12V 10A Goal Zero Yeti 1000 to power my newly installed Webasto gas heater. I could see that the start up needed 6 to 10 amps. It then drops quickly to 1.5 to 2 amps. So far no problem with my 12V 10 amps power supply.

Have you guys noticed any issues with this system at higher altitudes? Trying to choose between this and the espar s2 d2 heater with the elevation stuff built in.

  • @jenniejames

    @jenniejames

    2 жыл бұрын

Good question! Personally we haven't had issues but we haven't been at high altitudes for extended periods of time. If you know/ think you will be, I believe you can contact Webasto to have them modify it to suit a higher altitude, although it will need to be changed back afterwards. If you've been at a high altitude for a short period of time, you can burn off any soot buildup by running the heater on full blast for a few hours, and that will keep it in good condition!

  • @jenniejames

Are you still happy with the Webasto? We have not installed a heater in our Promaster yet and we would like your opinion.

  • @jenniejames

Yes very happy! I would say getting the "Smart Temp Controller" or "HD Multicontroller" (depending on where you live) is a must have upgrade so that the heater can regulate itself at a desired temperature!
