The story takes place in the sub-basement of the Smithsonian Castle, where Wolverine is being held captive by a man known as the Merchant. The Merchant is planning to sell every part of Wolverine to the highest bidder, and he starts by firing a revolver at Wolverine's head. The Merchant then removes various body parts from Wolverine, including an ear, some hair, and a piece of flesh, auctioning them off to the crowd of onlookers for large sums of money. To the horror of Wolverine's friend, the Merchant asks the audience which part of Wolverine they should remove next, and one person bids for the privilege of killing him. It turns out to be one of Wolverine's allies, Hank, also known as the Beast. Hank betrays Wolverine and stabs him in the stomach, and Wolverine realizes that anyone can own Hank if he allows himself to be compromised. Beast then extracts Wolverine's head from his body, leaving the story on a cliffhanger as Beast takes the Adamantium skull of Wolverine and places it in his secret vault.
