Bears using 'back-stabbing whisper campaign' on Justin Fields | Bernstein & Holmes

Спорт

Dan Bernstein sounded off on the Bears' "back-stabbing whisper campaign" of injured quarterback Justin Fields, as displayed on NBC's broadcast of Sunday Night Football, which built up rookie Tyson Bagent. "If you don't want to coach Justin Fields, if that's too much for you, if you can't handle him, then you suck as a coach," Bernstein says. Bernstein and Laurence Holmes reacted to how the national audience handled the Bears' quarterback conversation.

Thank you for speaking truth. Tired of the Chicago QB drama. Hoping Fields can move on from this dumpster fire of a franchise. Bears have Bagent, possibly Williams or Maye to carry on with poor coaching, a piss poor defense, and team surely in need of more line help on both sides. Chicago fans deserve the QB carousel for another decade if you think this teams record of 5-27 is just due to Fields play.

When Justin got hurt, I predicted the win against the Raiders - not because Bagent is better, but because Getsy can call plays for Bagent. He has a similar style of play to Rogers. I don't think Getsy will ever be able to tap into Field's potential. If we keep our current coaching staff, it would be better for the Bears and for FIelds if they part ways. Even though I'm hoping they keep Fields and lose the coaches, that means starting over.... again. Food for thought... what would Field's numbers be if we had a consistent defense? If we didn't end up with 2nd and 16 every other set of downs? If we had more than one decent receiver? Then there's the LA game with Bagent. First play should have been a TD (bad zebra). First INT was a miscommunication, but lets put it on Bagent. Second INT was bounced off of Mooney's chest. He should have had another TD, but VJ can't walk and chew gum at the same time. It should have been a 300 yard, 2 passing TD, one rushing TD, one INT game. Woulda, shoulda, coulda. Now Bagent knows what it feels like to be Justin Fields. Only in Chicago.

There were some huge plays that robbed Bagent of some nice highlights. He played better than the stat sheet, but Fields should still be the guy. The media’s bs agenda is just that. The Bears (Flus and Bagent themselves) made it clear that it’s Fields’ team when he comes back. Period. The media can believe it or not, but it doesn’t matter. What the media wants is irrelevant, they don’t know anything about managing a team or a roster. That’s not the media’s job, but they do have some fair and valid points that the Bears will eventually (soon) have to make a decision on whether to stick with Fields and extend his contract or move on with someone else. Bagent’s been hyped up (some of it, rightfully so) but he’s a rookie backup at this point and anything beyond that is highly unrealistic.

  • @BuckLax3

Plenty of drops and short-yardage runs getting stuffed. A rookie backup lighting the scoreboard on fire is 99.99% of the time not happening. LA picked the defense apart and controlled the entire game. If you were rooting for a young backup to fail, your bias is as easy to see as much as the delusional people labeling Bagent the heir apparent after one game. Seems most Bear's fans need to take a breath or get some pills cause you're all over the place.

This is the problem with these sport talk shows. Bagent is a undrafted rookie back up who earned his spot on the 53. Justin is injured and will be back in there when he's ready. Fans get overemotional and the media thrives for that type of reaction so they can spend there time, and ours talking about it. They love to create narratives because that's what sells. Why can't we just allow things to play out, let Justin get back in there and spend the rest of the year making his case and be happy we have a young hard working kid to sit and develop behind a starter, and either be a solid career backup or maybe even a starter once he's had time to work and get better? Has a fan I want both to succeed, and there's nine games left.

Our problem (Chicago Bears) is the culture, the organization isn't built or believes in dynamic QB's, they want "Managers" and nothing more, sit in the pocket and hand the ball off, or short passes to keep the sticks moving. That's all fine, don't get me wrong, but we'll NEVER have THAT QB, we don't coach that way. Secondly, the coaching staff is God awful, great coaches build a team around player strengths, the Bears want their game plan and that's it. I'd prefer to bring in a new coach and watch JF go down in flames than replace him and screw over another QB. The Bears aren't being fair to Fields OR Bagent.

When people wait for September to come around, take their time and money and invest in something they want to be entertained by; just for it to come back and do the exact opposite is extremely upsetting. Then Bagent plays and he’s destined to be Brian hoyer or Craig krenzal. Bagent looks really good. He didn’t try to scramble one time! He threw the ball to far side of the field on half the throws. He took shots and showed off his arm. He’s so much better than Fields was as a rookie. Fields is getting traded it sounds like. So get used to Bagent. 😊

I disagree on the picking bad players part. Sure you can point to bad picks like kevin white but every team has misses. This is about consistently having coaching staffs who can’t develop offensive talent across the board. We consistently develop solid LBs, but name the OL we’ve drafted who developed into a great player. Name the wr we’ve drafted who developed into a good players. Mooney is probably the only guy on that list. It’s an abysmal track record spanning many different coaching staffs and GMs. There’s no way every GM is just that bad and kept picking bad players.

There was a point where he said the Bears should make Fields study Bagent or something wild like that. You can praise Bagent and his story with out dogging Fields. Everyone wanted Fields to take a leap and technically he’s done that. Did people expect him to go from 3-14 last season to being top 3 in passing yards all while boasting a 7-1 record after week 8? It’s just unrealistic. Then the broadcast folks made a point to give Herbert’s shortcomings over the last 4 weeks every excuse in the book. They even created a graphic! Oh he’s playing bad because he broke a finger on his non throwing hand. Just stop it. He’s been inconsistent since he became the starter. Lol Justin Fields has undoubtedly received more criticism than Burrow, Mahomes, and most definitely Josh Allen. These are the media’s darlings but they all have underperformed this season. Lamar is playing well and they’re still hesitant to give him his flowers. Skin color will always play a part in this QB criticism game. “What do you mean, Mahomes is black!” Stop it, you know how this works. Lol

Matt Eberflus and Getsy are coaches that are trying to learn on the fly and just like Justin and Tyson they are showing you they lack experience. There is a technical level to making coaching decision based on odds and stats. Like going for it on 4 and 2 when you have no running game. The unfortunate thing is you had a guy like Sean Payton available as a coach and we didn't go after him. He is from Illinois and I think he would have fit right in and he has a proven winning record. Top to bottom the organization is not working. I believe that Ryan Poles ego wouldn't allow him to hire Sean Payton. Ryan wants to be out front and he not a great GM. Just lucky at best.

how could you not see Jf was already out bagent here or not?? JF injured HIMSELF He put himself under the bus of that hollywood story of d2 to NFL how did you think the media was gonna spin this?? they are selling stories they dont care, , if not injured he would proberly have played 5+ more games and if he did not turn up big , they put in Bagent to just see at the end of season. even in this loss to LA chargers, Bagent put up numbers, Fields only have done better overall stats 5 TIMES in ALL his bears games combined 33 game 32 fumbles 115 sacks 79 after holding the ball 4+ sec ontop of that also 2 dropped TD/balls in the 2 Weeks for bagent , all the penalties , like it dont take a blind man to see his not preforming worse than JF, like everyones job is on the line, u think they gonna put their job on JF for another season, like its not very hard. if JF and Bagent gives same result on pitch and they feel JF not gonna improve? what you suggest they gonna do, if you haven't smelled the coffee as soon Bagent pushed out peterman and walker, idk, tbh u need to wake up, they clearly love this Bagent guy, seems the locker room also likes his present and playstyle, so idk man. I feel this a you problem rn you cant see JF was done no matter what as soon it got 5loose this early in season. Vs LA chargers It should have been a 300 yard, 2 passing TD, one rushing TD, one INT game. Woulda, shoulda, coulda last week even DJ m dropped a TD. you guys are also using double speak, its obv to all watching over the last 2 weeks, you hoped JF would turn up big this season big time but he did not, he even got himself injured with his playstyle again , his upsides alot more that bagent currently , and downside prob the same amount as with bagent, but if he cant do it on the pitch then what? even if bagent not they guy yet witch he aint yet, im 100% sure they not gonna pay JF and or hang all their jobs in his hands. and I feel the vibe from the hole team is the same, u see the WR match after match, shake their heads, trow out their arms to the side, after another JF solo play or sack when they wide open. Herbert , made 2 or 3 throws over 15 yards, last game, rest was the dink and donk plays , (like you guys like to call it, to make it sound bad) but the difference was those LA chargers players did turn up and delivered after the catch.

For all the fans that want Fields gone lets look back on the last three years. Year 1 Matt f'ing Nagy players need to change to play my system( hold on to this). Year 2 a completely tear down team but that Fields fault( only thing entertaining to watch was Justin Fields last year with the bears nothing else). Year 3 play calling and scheme completely different especially with who is playing qb clearly shown and said multiple times ala back to year one for reference. Now to the fans every qb need a supporting cast from players to COACHING and if you think one qb can do it look at Mahomes (ala year 1 and 3 for Fields) hows that working for him. To those who think Caleb Williams is the next Mahomes WRONG closer to Baker Mayfield same play style but against worse defense 😂😂😂. Bears will stay a joke if they keep the carousel of qb and coaches but Gesty needs to go complete Sabotage. Gesty is Nagy 2.0 ✌

I don’t think the Chicago Bears calls national media guys and crap to ask their own team. I think the station gets feedback and get stories and narratives to talk about during the game but I don’t think they get it from the GM or the media relations person of the Chicago Bears, or from the coaches.

Yeah I’ve been confused with people overhyping of Bagent the past week. It’s awesome that he made it this far, but it was pretty clear from the get go that he’s not a starter. Even if you don’t think Fields is the long term answer in Chicago, he’s pretty clearly the best QB on Chicago’s roster for the time being. It’s really confusing then why they ruled him out this Monday, instead of waiting until Friday to make a decision, especially after the kind of game Bagent had and the fact that he was just listed as DTD and questionable the past couple of weeks.

The question with Bagent isn't if he is a starter NOW!! The question the Bears need to answer. What is your long terms solution to the QB position? The coaching staff won't be here next season most likely. Does poles feel that Bagent will get better? Does poles feel that Justin will get better? Does poles have his mind made and he will draft a QB. This team is not going anywhere right now. So the Bears shouldn't be thinking who is the starter now? Who is going to be the starter of the future.

I like Fields as a person, seems like a good guy, but for him to call out the Coaches was not a smart or good move by him at all. He showed lack of maturity and courage as well by addressing it to the media instead of apparently going to the Coaches himself, and this was after a few games right? I don't think Fields could still be a Starter in the NFL, but he needs to learn from all of this. He came from good coaching and a great winner at Ohio State so that could help him in the long run (although Ohio State QBs haven't been good in the NFL).

Guys - Im not always the biggest fan of the Score, but I think you hit it on the head. It seems to me, the GM has tied himself to the wrong coaching staff and is going along with everything they are putting out. And it's wrong. Plain out wrong. Wrong for the team, wrong for the players, wrong for the fans. And if Poles doesn't break from following this coaching staffs lead, he is gonna end up on the same unemployment line as them. I hope you guys keep pointing this out.

I think the Bears have taken a good QB in Fields and ruined him. He will thrive and be better on another team who will build around him. Nagy wanted his Mahomes type of QB, and they drafted Fields, then Nagy proceeds to ruin him, and gets himself fired. Then they hire Eberflus, who hasn't shown us anything defensively as of yet, and hired Getsy as an OC? Because he worked with Rodgers in GB? The man has yet to come up with an offense that works with Fields strengths. Yes, Fields is guilty of things too, not denying that, but the coaching sucks. The whole staff needs to go. I think Poles deserves one more year to see what he can do and if he can't, fire his ass too.

There's very few QBs who can make it more of a running QB...basically Lamar Jackson, and kind of Jalen Hurts? I think Fields 7-26 record as a Starter hurts him. You can say he has bad talent around him, but Burrow and Tua T. have brought not great franchises to almost elite levels and winning. Jackson, Hurts have high winning totals. I thought the Bears should have taken Bryce Young and traded Fields last year. I think Bagent looks very natural from a non Bears neutral fan standpoint. But who knows how good he really is? You'd have to give him 5-6 games to get a better feel. Bagent would be fun to watch on a good team with good receivers, offensive line. But you could say that for about any NFL QB.

I called it during the preseason Bagent was going to start once the Bears started losing consistently that is when Fields was going to suddenly sustain another convenient injury. This way he can't be blamed for another losing record. Head Coach is a one and done, Mr. Slick is what I call him. Trade Fields for anyone but Jimmy G, the dude stinks!
