Bears finish potentially franchise-altering draft | Take The North, Ep. 180

Спорт

The Bears have completed their 2024 NFL Draft and phew, does it have the potential to be a good one. David Haugh and Dan Wiederer reflect on the Bears drafting quarterback Caleb Williams and receiver Rome Odunze in the first round. Williams brings with him an easy confidence and didn't flinch when asked about the high expectations and pressure he's facing. Meanwhile, it took some luck for the Bears to get Odunze. It's something this franchise hasn't had a lot of in recent years. The guys also offer their thoughts on the final three picks the Bears made in the draft: offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie, punter Tory Taylor and pass rusher Austin Booker. #CalebWilliams #RyanPoles #Bears #NFL

They’re hiding under their troll bridge until the first interception or fumble from Caleb, then they’ll be out in full force again. Hell, even if Caleb plays GREAT all year long, those trolls will still be saying, “he only played great because he’s surrounded by talent everywhere.” I’m already ready for it lol

Right here. Watched a lot of tape. And he truly can make every throw. It's in his arsenal. Fields just could not, and the money thing matters. So that being said. The Bears are giving up 8 players to get this guy. I'm hope I'm wrong.

@spaceghost8995 then he can't make every throw. Like the dump the ball to save a sack. Or a touch pass to a blocking tight end. A tight end is always open. Yes he over prossed plays sent in. But his biggest problems was not owning the plays called. Crisp pump fake, bootleg, draw play, play action pass or RPO. I personally would of trained him on muscle memory for 2 weeks and taped a ball to his hand and never let him throw it. We know he can throw, but holding the ball in a guys gut and pulling it out to set up a play. He just could not understand the value in that.

The Williams tweet to Tory Taylor was cute but if we consider what that means and add to that the times he ‘does’ punt and what his punts are, it suggests real game long trouble for opposing offenses before the Bears D even gets on the field. One of the best strategic picks Poles could make.

Super pumped! Let’s go! I hate the bring up the elephant in the room but I think Poles will regret not firing Eberflus after last season. Everyone has been talking about how the bears are stacked with talent and setup well for a rookie quarterback like Caleb. Nobody was referring to the head coach as part of that setup. Flus is an excellent dc. I just wish I felt the same about him as the head coach. Caleb wants multiple superbowls and chase 12 as we all do but we need an elite head coach at the helm. History is clear on this. Eberflus’ contract ends in 25. Poles needs a game plan for transitioning this talented team to a new head coach without falling into old narratives. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.

Not sure but I sure am excited for the Bears

I've been thinking the same thing. It definitely seems the Bears have finally made an excellent hire at GM. Poles is young also, so should be around building this team's roster for a long time. I'm still on the fence with Flus as head coach, though he seems to be an above average defensive coordinator, but still tbd at head coach. I'm optimistic about the offensive staff they've added, but still need to see it in action. I'm a bit concerned about them retaining Chris Morgan as the offensive line coach though. I've felt that the Bears have needed better talent on the offensive line for a while, but even worse they didn't seem to work well together, particularly in passing off and handling defensive line stunts and games. That part seems like a failure of coaching as much as players. The Bears offense was a disaster last year in short yardage situations, largely because of poor offensive line play. I haven't heard it mentioned much, but for a supposedly good running team, they failed on so many plays with a yard or 2 to gain that killed drives. It started on the very first drive in the first game of the season against the Packers. They failed on 3rd & 1 and 4th & 1 to give the Packers a short field. That continued in almost every game all season.

CHGO was live during the draft but as Chicago was on the clock it took a long time before their phone rang. It looks like nobody wanted to trade up - gunshy GMs not wanting the stigma from Mass Media that they are getting fleeced or they are not seeing value as Ryan Poles sees in Caleb Williams? Mass Media rumur concerning Justin Fields claimed seven GMs would get rid of Justin if he was on their team. Tyson Bagent paid big bucks for quarterback school recommended by Ryan Poles and said other NFL players are in his classroom. Caleb lacks important talent Justin Fields has such as: ball security and is limited in check down. All these Fields haters (Busting Fields) knitpickers better be holding Caleb to their same standard. 🐻⬇️🧆🏝️
