Philips Norelco Series 5100 Review: • Beard Trimming - Phili...
In this video, I give you my full review of the Conair I-Stubble beard trimmer, model GMT900N. Along the way, I test it against the Philips Norelco Series 5100 to find out which beard trimming device achieves the best stubble look.
Right out of the box, Conair touts the I-Stubble beard trimmer for its pivoting flexhead technology that adjusts perfectly to your face for extra comfort and control. Conair further pledges that the I-Stubble is built to get you from five o’clock shadow to designer stubble.
Looking at Amazon, the ConairMan I-Stubble is an Amazon Choice recommendation. It ranks at #23 for the category of Beard and Mustache trimmers and holds a 3.5 out of 5-star review rating.
Inside the Conair I-Stubble GMT900N box, you'll find the trimmer and built in beard comb, electro-chemically formed blades, a charger, brush and lubricating oil.
Now, if you take a look at my previous video on the Philips Norelco Series 5100, you’ll notice that these two grooming devices are both dry operation trimmers that claim to achieve the perfect stubble look.
Starting with the Philips Norelco Beard and Head trimmer, this groomer utilizes 3 beard and hair combs that work in combination with a built-in zoom wheel. However, the ConairMan I-Stubble is made solely for the face and integrates a single flip-back guide comb that height adjusts on an LCD display.
Focusing on height adjustment, almost identical to the Philips Norelco Series 5100, the Conair I-Stubble beard trimmer allows for 15-integrated trim settings. These start in 0.2mm increments from lengths 0.4mm to 2mm and 0.5mm increments from lengths 2mm to 5mm.
As far as battery life, the ConairMan I-Stubble beard trimmer uses a nickel-metal hydride battery vs the lithium-ion battery of the Series 5100. Additionally, the I-Stubble requires 90 minutes of charge time for 45 minutes of use. Furthermore, a 16 hour initial supercharge will ensure optimum power performance for smooth fast trimming.
In contrast, the Philips Norelco Beard and Head trimmer only requires 1 hour of charge time for 70 minutes of cordless use.
Even more, the Conair I-Stubble GMT900N and Philips Norelco Series 5100 both have a 5-minute quick charge. The difference being that the I-Stubble is good for only 3 minutes of use, while the Series 5100 is good for one cordless trim.
Both units can be used plugged in for continuous use.
Now, for first use, Conair recommends that 2 drops of lubricating oil be applied to the blades. Before you apply, make sure the beard trimmer is on and the blades are actively moving.
Important to note, oiling trimmer blades can reduce friction and keep them from pulling or snagging facial hair. Additionally, about once a month you should oil the trimmer blades.
For cleaning after a trim, the blades are removable and can be rinsed under the tap. However, the Conair I-Stubble only to be used in dry condition and cannot be used while bathing or in the shower.
Currently, the ConairMan I-Stubble beard trimmer, Model GMT900N sells on Amazon for $39.99 vs the $44.99 price tag for the Philips Norelco Series 5100.
Overall, the Conair I-Stubble and Philips Norelco Series 5100 both achieved that stubble look at the 0.4mm setting.
But that said, one of these trimmers has an advantage over the other and is my recommendation for you. Make sure to check out the video above to find out!
The Conair I-Stubble includes the following:
- I-Stubble Trimmer
- Electro-chemically formed blades
- Charging Cord
- Cleaning Brush
- Lubricating Oil
Good Luck!

Awesome review! I've ruled out the I-stubble and I'm currently looking into the 5100 now since it's more geared towards getting hair pretty low. Thanks for the help!

Great video as always. Keep it up :) Oh, and i recently replaced my philips oneblade with a Remington durablade, which is almost the same, except that you don't have to change the blades for 5 years. Could you make a review/ compare the two? Thanks.

For trimming on the lower settings, i.e. 0.4mm, which one do you recommend: Conair i-Stubble or Phillips Norelco Series 5100 (or the Series 5000, the newest version)? Or the Wahl Lithion Ion trimmer 9818? Which one is more efficient at cutting and more powerful overall? Which one will do a nice trim of the side burns, jaw and necklines without the guard? I’m looking for a trimmer just for short stubble. Thanks in advance!

Hi, Adamas. If you haven't already, check out my video on the Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer 5500 vs Series 5100 seen here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4d5qMF6f8jUh5s.html. Either of these two trimmers would be my recommendation for cutting at lower increment settings as they both start at 0.4mm and increase in 0.2mm settings up to I believe 2mm. The Beard Trimmer 5500 (amzn.to/2K6O3Z5) is the latest model of the Series 5100 (amzn.to/2HVOLps), however, I recommend taking a look at the designs I compare in the video, as well as the guards, to see what has changed from one version to the next and determine what you think would work best for you. Both are very efficient, with great power and battery life. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and being a member of the GroomReviews community! All the best!

Hi. Can you review the super stubble XTP. It’s made by VS Sassoon in Australia. Babyliss also has a version of the XTP. I think they are made by Conair. It’s similar to the istubble however has Li ion battery, 2 combs which means it can cut from 0.4-10mm and is fully waterproof.

Hi, John. Thank you for your suggestion of the super stubble XTP. The Conair Super stubble is the version I see available here in the US, however this device only goes up to 5mm, just as the regular I-Stubble unit. It does have a Lithium-Ion battery, but it's priced at around $90 on Amazon. At that price and the same sizing capability, the Philips Norelco Series 5100 is going to be the better deal. Thanks, again, for watching and your support of the channel. All the best!

The Australian version of the super stubble has a second comb which increases the trim length to 10mm. Bought it for $99 in Australia. The Philips 5205 is $59 at the moment. Might consider picking one up as a second trimmer.

Hi, Deacon St. John. For precision beard trimming, I still recommend the Philips Norelco Multigroom 7000 (amzn.to/2VHSZK6), which you can see in my video review here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l3qikrWiYaXTqcY.html. If your goal is a stubble finish at a tight increment length setting, then I recommend checking out my video on the Philips Beard Trimmer 5500 seen here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4d5qMF6f8jUh5s.html. The 5500 is an upgraded model of the Series 5100 and I compare both in this video that I put out a few weeks ago. Of the trimmers I have reviewed to-date, the Multigroom 7000 is one of the better performers for precision on the beard. I've received much positive feedback from the community on its performance and it has continued to hold a very positive 4.6 out of 5.0 star review rating on Amazon. The Multigroom 7000 comes with the pieces needed for creating crisp, uniform looks that are absent with the 5500 and Series 5100, and depending on the size of your beard, you can interchange the beard and hair guards to trim at longer lengths or get down to that stubble look. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and being a member of the GroomReviews community! All the best!

Hi, funk3y. I have not had a chance to review the Super Stubble XTP and cannot provide an accurate assessment of its performance until using. That said, of the stubble trimmers that I have reviewed to-date, the Philips Norelco Series 5100 Beard and Head Trimmer - Model BT5210 would be my top recommendation. You can find my review of the Series 5100 here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4p72MGPeKmdYJs.html. Wow great review!!! I'm actually having a hard time looking for a great stubble trimmer. Overall which one would you recommend? I was looking into Philips Noreclo One blade, but I don't want to replace the head every 3-4 months... In actually looking into to buy the Philips 5100 thanks to your review! Would you recommend that or another one instead? :) Also is the link for the Philips 5100 correct? I keep getting redirected to the 3000 series :D

Hi, Moses. Thank you so much for the positive feedback. I greatly appreciate it. . If you haven't already, take a look at my video on the Beard Trimmer 5500 (amzn.to/2MBsxNM) vs Series 5100 Beard and Head Trimmer (amzn.to/2JVgQQa) seen here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4d5qMF6f8jUh5s.html. The 5500 is actually the next version of the 5100 and may be of interest to you. Either way, both of these stubble trimmers are great options. The increment settings go as low as 0.4mm and adjust in 0.2mm increments through many settings. Check out the video and let me know if this is something that could work for you. Thanks for watching and being a member of the GroomReviews community! All the best!
