Made me realize that giants, not just in God of War or Mythology but most media and culture. Are always destined to die or be slain. Really depressing when you think about it. Even the real life giants like the dinosaurs and ice age animals are all gone now. Extinct. 😢

Even good Attributes can burden as bad ones, and the other way around - depends on the person and the people around. Adding up the fame or infamity some names are being attributed even today. Let's say the name Adolf (which is a combination out of noble (adel) and wolf), even though of it's good attributes it once carried it's now tainted by the history of one person, who's legacy you are - if named that way - associated with.

Hello friend, do not draw that conclusion yet. Remember, if Faye was killed by someone Kratos would have sort for revenge. In this light, it might have been something else which killed the Giants. Remember Mimir said Jotunheim was the one place Thor and the other Asgardians would not follow. Sindri never asked who killed Faye, it is for a reason. Remember, Mimir only attested to giants being killed in Midgard. Do not be in a haste to draw conclusions. The song actually explains alot to what happened to the giants, and when it says "time hides us" you can pretty much tell that they are not dead its just some kind of illusion that gives the picture of dead giants and im sure Tyr is behind this, giants can see future, so they wouldn't die that easily.

You’re right. They used that spell to trap their souls in those marble things so in reality they are still alive but only as souls in marbles. They left the soulless bodies scattered throughout the valley in case Odin or the other Aesir manage to find their way into Jotunheim to throw them off from finding Ironwood. Atreus uses one of the souls to save a baby Jormungandr and after the snake literally became another giant it grew to the size of one and remembered Atreus as it’s creator

Faye aka Laufey in norse myth had the gift of prophecy, so she did in fact know. I'm pretty sure not all the Jotunns are dead, like Mimir stated that Surtr was still in Muspelheim and Atreus is part Jotunn himself. The whole point of the journey was for Kratos and Atreus to see the jotnar murals. The only form of resurrection we've seen in the game is vanir magic like Mimir's reanimation and Freya taking control over Thamur, but they're not exactly resurrections since Mimir himself said that he was only reanimated and still very much dead. This helps the theory of time travel, since Kratos went back in time before to get the help of the titans why not go back in time for the Jotunns' aid? Jormungandr's unexplained appearance also helps this theory. Faye must have warned the Jotunns of the coming of Ragnarok and did some time travel stuff. Remember how Atreus said "All the giants left midgard."? What if *most* of the giants left midgard but some instead time travelled to Ragnarok and put Jormungandr in an earlier time because without Jormungandr's help Kratos and Atreus never would have made it to Jotunheim.

It's especially sad knowing that most of them really did no wrong as Mimir explained through his stories, and that they were a peaceful race - only to be wiped out one by one thanks to Odin, Thor, Magni, Modi, and Baldur because of Odin's paranoia of the outcome of Ragnarok; Thor's lust for Giant blood, which rubbed off on his two sons; and Baldur who was desperate for a cure to his blessing/curse of invulnerability that Odin convinced him that the Giants may have had the answer to his problems caused by Freya. All the Giants were forced back to Jotunheim because they had no choice, and knew they were being hunted down like wild animals by the Aesir, and closed off the Realm to all the other Realms in order to save themselves. And for over 100 winters, they were hoping for the coming day of peace or hope; only to slowly fade away and die - waiting for the day that never came to them. So the Aesir really got away with it, and almost all the Giants are truly gone, except for Jormungandr, and Atreus (being a Giant from his mother's side - Fey/Laufey).

I like to imagine that the female vocals - both in this song and Ashes - are being sung by the spirit of Laufey. it makes sense in context to when that portion is played in the game, and she likely experienced the extinction of the Giants first-hand, since she conversed with them before she died. Even if it doesn't make much sense realistically, it's a super cool headcanon-ish thing, where Laufey is guiding Kratos and Atreus not only through the markings, but by her voice.

Great song it is a shame though that the lyrics arent 100 % correct at the first line : Jötnarnir vitru og máttgu; this is wrong vitru is not a world in old norse that i know of what they sing is miklu meaning large the next one og is supposed to be ok in old norse the use a k in some words that now use a g in many scandinavian languages for example norweigian(nynorsk) : eg(I) and old norse : Ek the last word mátgu means the same but is written Máttku (again with the k instead of g) so the correct line in old norse would be Jǫtnarnir miklu ok màttku---Jotnar the large and mighty also they use iclandic pronunciation in stead of authentic old norse awesome game though

So, why did you wanna name me "Atreus"? I know it can't be for a god. Hah! No, he was a soldier, a Spartan. A great warrior? All spartans are great warriors, we train from birth and our live were duty, discipline, battle and death. Life was grimm, and we greeted it grimly. Oh. But Atreus from Sparta was unlike the rest of us, he wore a smile even at the worst of times. He was happy. When the day came to lay down his life, he saved countless others and turned the tides in our favor. I carried him on his shield and buried him with all the honors of spartan custom. His memory served as a comfort in the worst of times, he gave us hope. Wow. You actually told a good story, Mimir missed it!
